I believe that in a few years your opinion of the colour drenched room is going to go the way of the feature wall. Pretty white trim, baseboards and doors are clean, classic and timeless. And dare I say, your sofa may be fantastic for a “just for show “ room or a rarely used sitting room , but it doesn’t seem cozy or comfy for everyday lounging or enjoyment.
I can’t stand the all sad beige or black&white trend , it should go as well. The Bellini sofa is everywhere, too many dupes...it’s becoming boring. The Hermes logo...really overused trend
That advice about removing memories is trash, with all respect. Home is an oasis. Home is family and love and memories and warmth. Home looking like/and feeling like a stylish magazine or studio photo feature with no love or warmth is empty and meaningless. We have really lost sight of what a home is. You are describing a pretty house. Not a home.
I went years and years of family photo drenching. It came to the point that I had insane amounts of photos and displaying them also became a problem. Then I went to select areas, then to picture shelves filled and overlapped photos then to photo books (which quite honestly I love best) and digital photo frame that changes the photos, then to none at all anywhere. I felt less pressured and I could breathe. That has been a decade or more now and I’m wanting to bring a few more back. In table top frames in a few places, my photo books. But I must admit I love love the picture walls incorporating fun family photos amongst them! I’ve got ideas!!
What we do with our family photos is take a number of photos from our vacation every year and use a service like Mpix to have professionally printed photo album book. The books are so much more interesting than a generic family photo. We place them on a wall picture ledge. This way we have the option to look at them whenever we want but, we don't have a million photos of us staring at guests when they come over.
😢 Trends and designs become overused because of RU-vid. YT is great for information, but it has also ruined individuality because folks don't want FOMO-Fear of Missing Out😅
I totally disagree with you about the black fixtures....I think they have become timeless. Yes they will come in and out...... just like other metals......
Accent / feature walls is the hill l'll die on, so to speak. The trick is to repeat the hue in different tones/shades/tints in wall art, bedding, soft furnishings, upholstered occasional chairs in the room. Colour drenching will be out in less than 5 years. I also disagree on family photos. I have deceased close relatives: my daughter, sister, mother and their image comforts me. Their photos are mixed in with photos of close living relatives and friends. Most of my new visitors enjoy looking at my framed family photos. Lowline sofas are uncomfortable and vessel vanity basins are finicky to clean. Any metal and wood will be outdated within 5 years from the time it trends.
I think the accent wall advice here is good but I think that there is still some nuance to be had. I live in a smallish 1 bed apartment and have to work from home, in my bedroom. I wanted to colour drench in a sophisticated dark green but when I did the visualisations it just came out looking like a cave and it didn’t have much natural light to begin with. What I did in the end was a dark green accent wall for the bed, but I took down off the ceiling by a foot, and wrapped it around part of the side wall. So it doesn’t look like an accent wall at all, it looks like the bed is being cocooned. At the other side of the room is my desk etc, still with neutral walls. So the semi-accent wall zones the room very nicely. I do share your dislike of flat 2d accent walls though, they look odd. Hope this makes sense 😅
I have hundreds of family photos loaded on a motion-activated digital photo frame. Our guests often stop to “watch” the slide show and often, they are in the pics. The photos bring a smile to our family members and friends. For me, it’s not about living in the past, but celebrating enduring relationships and friendships.
Nina, I did a beautiful flocked wallpaper behind our bed but I painted the walls the same color has the main color in the design. I also love bold large wallpapers on walls where there is lots of cutouts (windows…). I grew up in the 70’s so I’m a wallpaper fanatic.
OMG!! haven’t done any of those trends😅Yeeey😊 I have many artworks in my house and I love feeling that artistic vibe everywhere(no huge family pictures))Most of them are my artworks and it is a very nice feeling to see them and feel the energy.
I agree with the pictures of family all over the place. Sprinkled in with special framing is another thing. But I do have a section of my hall that has my three daughters pics of them as babies, them at school age, and their HS graduations lined up for each girl all in matching matte black square matted frames with a sconce light above each girls section. And I love it. I could only pull it off with it looking fabulous due to the high ceilings in my hall.
Yes to the photos… the only family photos I have framed are b&w or sepia very old ones as in ancestors. Oversized matting and lovely frames up grades art and makes it look expensive and refined. As an artist I’m lays interested to see how people frame.
I looove the shoes. I found a great look a like pair from Zara for only $50. I don’t live any type of lifestyle where I need to purchase some named designer brand anywhere but the bag. So finding amazing dupes are perfect for gals like me. That’s why Google’s reverse search tool and I are like this 🤞🏼
We did the accent walls a few decades ago (I don’t remember when) and even then I wasn’t sure about it. I didn’t do full colour drenching back then (I did all 4 walls and part of the tray ceiling) but now I’m quite honestly, afraid to do it but I SO SO want to. I’m thinking to do a powder room and a hall bathroom. I’m wanting to do a colour drenched master bedroom but I need help so I’ll probably reach out.
The slotted walls took over, but I kind of want to say the same for flutes Furniture and islands and cabinetry even though I fell into that trend myself I have a couple pieces that are fluted
fluted furniture is really timeless everything that was beautiful 100 years ago and still get to be trendy is timeless, the real problem is due to social media people see the same things over and over and get tired of it , everything moves very quickly in these times due to that, in reality though all people don't have the same things at all, the thing that looks dated are the finish the lacquer on wood, the shiny tiles, plastic ect, over doing everything so a chevron witch is a timeless pattern on floors or tiles is used where it does not belong on plastic suitcases that's the real problem
heavily replicating things make them lose their uniqueness and timeless appeal. i know fluted design such as ionic, Corinthian or doric columns ... are Greek masterpieces.. but what's done today even though may seem rooted in classical architecture, the way its being used today won't age well. For instance, if people start to associate it with a particular design era (like the 2020s), it will no longer feel timeless but dated
Completely agree with the family photo thing. I mean, instead of looking at photos of someone as a baby, for example, why not contact that person right now and arrange some activity together?!?
