Who said you can't look cozy & cute?! Today on the DIY Designer, I'm going to show you a beginner-friendly way to create & customize 2-piece loungewear sets from clothes in your closet!

Sometimes, I don't feel like lounging around the house in my PJs... Which is why I wanted to find an affordable, beginner-friendly way to DIY my own two-piece loungewear sets! There have been so many times I've wanted to replicate looks from my closet, or mix and match tops & bottoms, with new fabric! This DIY hack is perfect for beginners that want to start creating comfy & sexy clothes with a sewing machine! All you need is fabric, your favorite pair of comfy pants & a top, and a sewing machine, and you can create brand new loungewear sets that will make you want to strut around your house!
MATERIALS:
🌟 2-3 Yards of fabric, based on your size (I used 2)
🌟 Old Pants for pattern
🌟 Old Sweater for pattern
🌟 Fabric Scissors
🌟 Elastic
🌟 Pins
🌟 Sewing Machine

I love this! I had a set very similar to the black and white one when I was about 15. I'm 67 now, so it's been awhile, but I still remember how much I loved that set! They look great on you. God Bless all!!!!!

Hi Orly, I'm a new subscriber! I absolutely love your videos. The first video I watched was your embellished maxi skirts at the beginning of January and I have to confess I binge watched all the videos that I hadn't seen to catch up. I started sewing again after not doing it for a number of years and after coming across your videos, they've inspired me to get creative again with material. Hi Orly A tip for the waistband. If you have enough scrap, make two half waistband pieces and line them up with the pants seams.

yes great tip. It wouldn't work for this particular one because there is no side seam on the pant. Remember how we may each leg out of one piece? So the only seam is the inseam. Outer sides dont have one.... oh wait.... It could line up to the center front and center back I guess. But I dont think that would look great. hmmmm

Such a cute idea!! You mentioned that the first fabric is a stretchy knit type, is the black plaid the same? It looks a little more stiff than the first and I love the structure it seems to have when all is said and done, especially for pieces that could be mixed and matched into everyday wardrobe options. @@OrlyShaniShow oh yea that's fine the reason y I ask is because my first (and only) sewing machine is jysm 301 sewing machine and so I thought I'd ask cause if I'm not mistaken it only has one setting as far as stitching pattern unlike your amazing machine

Thank you for this video.i dont understand the video chen you re cut a band of fabric for do up of this pant.you re cut two band it s ok but you re recut the band .it isnt good .you ve just to put the seams on the sides of the pants instead of making cuts on the front of this pants.so it s a vert good video .excuse me for my english langage.by

I was at tarjay today and the pants they are selling are just awful. No way they're going to look good on me. I love-love these windowpane plaid pants Orly made. Only since I'm older now a crop top is a not. Maybe a peplum ruffle.

being curvy is the reason I started making my own clothes, way back in the 80's. in Europe it is difficult to buy anuthing that looks good in XL or XXL (and our XL is way smaller than the American XL) plus size usually means that one is directed tot the burlap-sack A-symetrical section of the shop.

I made one! I bought the fabric years ago but did not know wat to do with it. the blue camouflage jogging-fabric really isn't my thing! You inspired me to just wing it and make a sweatpants and cropped shirt. It took me 1.5 hours and I am wearing the suit all the time. I love it and mu husband told me it makes me look sexy! Orly, you are an inspiration. I think it is too bad I can' t share the results with you. would be great to have one vid. showing all the things you have inspired us to make, all over the wordl.

A lot of the sewing/diy personalities I follow have done fun styling videos using all of their "me-made" wardrobe pieces. I think it would be really fun if you did one! You've made so much cool stuff over the last few years, you could create a loads of great looks from just your own pieces!

Another great video creation Orly. If they were for sale it's definitely something I would purchase and wear. They look that good. One drawback, the leopard/Cheata print pant I would zig-zag the bottom rather than hemming. Overall great snd detail instruction as well as the video. 🤗😘

I just did that with an worn out pair of training pants. I loved them so much, because they were super comfortable, but weren't completely shapeless and unflattering. I tried in vain, to find new ones, I liked as much, but they either didn't fit as well in the hip/crotch area or were to short for my long legs. So I bit the bullet and made my own, although it cost me more in materials, than most new ones would (sigh, the plight of every diy'er, am I right?). Super happy with the result and 10/10 recommend the process 👍

@@catyfaurie9446 Damn right! 😆 That's why I usually don't bother with sewing casual clothes from scratch, but since everything is closed here and I didn't have much luck with online shopping, I had to finally bite the bullet! Well, at least it's lovely, thick winter sweat, which isn't easy to find in ready made clothing.

I have a question not with the fabulous lounge wear but with graphics on shirts. I have A LOT of graphic S-M shirts and sweat shirts but ALL the graphics are on the back and ALL sentimental. I'm now a size LG and want to somehow reporpose the t shirts and sweatshirts so (at least the t shirt graphics are in the front), and I can wear them again. Please help you're so creative. Thanks

It depends on your size. The thing with pants is...for the smaller sizes and/or narrow legged pants, you can usually fit both legs next to each other. So the length of the pants + some extra, is what you need. If you're larger and/or want wide legged pants, you might have to place them behind each other, which means, you'll need double the amount! I recommend measuring out the width of your chosen fabric on a table or on the floor and laying down the pants, you want to copy, to try this out.

Love the leopard print one. I've not ventured into sewing knits because it truly scares me. The one attempt caused my fabric to get caught and made a huge bird's nest out of the thread and bent my needle. 😬

Here's a tip: Prewash your fabric and add a hefty dose of liquid starch, then dry the fabric laying flat. It'll result in a somewhat stiffened fabric, that's much easier to cut and sew. It'll almost behave like a woven fabric. In a pinch, spraystarching just the edges can also be a big help. That's how I made do, before I finally invested in a serger.

@@aot9644 Hm, never happened to me. If you use a lot, you might have to use a regular needle instead of a ballpoint one (which is usually recommended for jersey knits). Although as a beginner, I'm guessing, you're probably using a standard needle anyway, right? 😉 Maybe try it on a small sample piece if you're unsure. That's always best with new materials/techniques.
