Well well well! This diorama seems to get way bigger and more complex than I have anticipated! I’m curious on how this project is going to evolve. When you introduced your plan to 3d print stuff I was actually hoping for a little bit of explanation. No disappointment on that side. Thanks a lot!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll have a future video about the construction of the foam/styrene parts.

This is a novices 'go to' video as it easily explains the basics.....the educator has definitely made an appearance here for sure. As an IT dummy, you made the instructions simple and easy to follow and it all made sense. Thanks for illuminating a subject which I had meagre knowledge of, MN.

Cheers Robbo - glad you found it useful :) I certainly won't be able to explain Blender in the same way - that program is crazy! (But very powerful, apparently!)

Very interesting how 3D printing works. I don't have a 3D printer so am not familiar with how they work. Your illustrations and instructions make it a little understandable. Awesome stuff!

*Very interesting video about this kind of 3D printer, a lot of sanding seems to be necessary to have the best result.*

Yes, definitely. I've noticed that on the Vargas resin kits I bought too.

4:53 Its worth mentioning that if you are creating copies of sub assembly's , try to make sure there are no errors in the model , as these will be replicated in further copies , as demonstrated here .
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd Год назад
Not sure which sub assemblies you mean - these all came out fine and printed without error :)

@@ModelNerd ...The first horizontal slat that you put in was too low on the Z axis , so when you copied the next four , you replicated the error .

Now that was very very interesting. I do wish you had started with the super settings as that’s what I would want to see and therefore use! Thanks Bob England

Thanks Bob.Unfortunately I just couldn't get the super quality setting working reliably - I had a success rate of maybe 20%.

Cracking video. Really informative and that’s definitely going to enhance a lot of scale modellers kits and dioramas by giving them the confidence to give it a go. Maybe not with that one though 😂 For me its always been the design and software thats been an issue and you made it look really easy. Promoting the hobby gets a thumbs up from me 👍

Thanks mate. Yes, I still print a lot of 3D models built by others but I've wanted to try 3D design for a while. I was surprised how simple Tinkercad is (at least for non-organic shapes).

Great video, from the designing in Tinkercad to the printing. Agree for the small, detailed stuff most of us are going to make for scale models, the resin printer is the way to go. I think I got my Elegoo Mars 2 + washer/curing station for what that Creality rig costs.

What an awesome combination, model kit and ability to infinite printing combinations I always enjoy your skills, as I am continuing my reboot into the hobby after retirement I am working on entry level kits. However, with the skills coming back slowly I'm beginning to think that your diorama combinations are the way to go over a stand alone presentation of the model. I have 2 Airfix Lancaster kits ready as soon as I feel confident - the Mark 2 and 3, and a diorama would be perfect In between skill building I am searching for a diorama supplement of equipment and personnel Airfix does have some, do you have any recommendations for other possibilities - so much to choose from these days. Continued good luck on the three D
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd Год назад
Thank you for your kind words. The Lancaster kits make lovely looking models (I've still got a Mk 2 and a Dambusters variant to build myself). Figures is a tricky one - Airfix's are old but seem to be one of the few real options unfortunately.

@@ModelNerd Thanks for checking back, I think you're right on the ground crews and equipment for 1/72. However, a bit of Irony, I've got some builds in 1/48. Eduards Spitfire I found a 1/48 scale personnel from ICM. They haven't arrived yet but soon, and they are coming from Ukraine of all places. I would not have thought those poor people caught up in such a chaotic situation would be able to continue in business.

Hmm, not impressed with the printing, you have scratch built much much better stuff, using any of those gutters would be second rate. Don't downgrade your fantastic dioramas just because you think you have to use new technology please.

Hi Tony. I agree that FDM printing isn't ip to it. However resin printing is MUCH higher quality so I'll be using that for thr fine details (I definitely couldn't scratch build a feeding trough). Did you see thr FDM vs resin pilot figure in thd video? Poles apart in terms of quality.

Hi MN, thanks for sharing the intricacies of 3D printing. I'm not too keen on the new wave of resin printing. I prefer old school methods of scratch and 'odd-finds' detailing. This style of building is more imaginative I think. That said, for the more advanced builder, printing what you need or want can be quite satisfying to achieve the look and details wanted to enhance the realism of the model or diorama. You share a great deal of printing info and I thank you for that. I do like to keep up with the latest trends in the modeling world! Thanks as always for sharing your hobby and passion for it. See you next time.

Cheers Michael. Yes, I like scratching building the traditional way too - I'm just not very good at it :) I plan to use a good combination of scratch, 3D printing, kits, and spares in the diorama though.
