In this video we are making a leather slip case for a swiss army knife, the video includes both pattern measuring and also case construction.
Although this video shows a knife case the process would be just the same for an iPhone, iPad, pen or any other similar item really as long as it's not too thick.

In the beggining, I thought: why this video is so long? It's just a knife case! But in the end, I know a lot of things about leather stitching, and the most important thing - how to handle product perfectly! This case is really perfect and looks very premium quality! Well done!

Doesn't make any money unless people actually click on the adverts which hardly anybody does unfortunately.

If we click on the ad, you can make money? Do we need to watch the whole ad to the end, or will just clicking on it will make you money?

Thanks for all the tips - I've made slip cases for small whetstones, so I know that getting a good fit isn't easy, but your work is way neater than mine, so hopefully I can learn from this and improve my work. I also enjoyed this: 'If you slide it up and down, you can see how tight it feels in there.' ;-)

Thank you for the amount of detail you went into about how you use the leather strips for working out the threading location for templating. I'm just now getting into leatherwork, and I was wondering the best way to figure that out.

Great video. One thing I noticed, is when you repositioned the knife in when measuring for the case, the front piece became longer then the back. I would recommend removing the item, repositioning the clamps with flat leather, and try again.

Brilliant I've been looking for a video that explains the sizing of a pattern ,you really explain it well . I do have one question ,I'm just starting out as a hobby and trying to find leather supplies in the UK that are cheap enough to try out is difficult . I have bought some tools from amazon as well as some chrome leather ,I've found Identity Leather Craft in Matlock and am waiting for some veg tan and glue to try out. do you have any recommendations for leather suppliers in the UK selling small amounts for us hobbyists . Great channel nice to hear a calm English accent explaining things so well .

Ian. I always have trouble getting my stitching holes even around the item. I am always off by a mm or two, just like this example you marked. I tried finding and marking the center of the object on the stitch line (at the bottom of the case) and then walk the irons in both directions. If I am careful, they do match up at the top opening. Have you ever tried this?
@Leodis.Leather
@Leodis.Leather 4 года назад
No, I stitch these at 8.5SPI so the stitches are small enough that it doesn't really matter where the last one ends up. If you're using a bigger stitch it would be more of an issue.
@bbrachman
@bbrachman 4 года назад
@@Leodis.Leather That makes so much sense. I go between 3.85mm and 3.35mm stitch length. I guess 8.5 spi is closer to 3 mm. Thank you!
@Leodis.Leather
@Leodis.Leather 4 года назад
yes it's a 3mm iron, if you wanted to use larger you'd need to balance it out per your particular iron as you say (then maybe mark the start and end on your pattern)
@bbrachman
@bbrachman 4 года назад
@@Leodis.Leather I just tried my unused 3mm iron on a small sheath. You are absolutely correct. Even though I did start in the center and work my way out, the 3 mm stitches ended about the same place. Good to know. Thank you Ian.

Hi Ian, I'm another one struggling with the stitch. On your 2014 video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3zTOqJCWbfY.html minute 7:00 you explained about going through the loop with your left hand (like in this video) but in your 2013 video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y0EL7K2NhYs.html minute 1:09:30 you don't bother with that like Nigel does... Does it make any difference in order to keep 'clean' front and back stitching? Does it make any difference if using thin leather? Thank you for the videos and hope you keep helping as we should.
@Leodis.Leather

the most recent video will be the most up to date method, you need to find what works for you.
@paolomh113
@paolomh113 7 лет назад
Thank you, Ian will keep testing the loop method and although you don't say about thin leather I will keep trying... hope me and much more hit the donate bottom by the end of this year.
