Just a moment of appreciation for Norm: the guy hosts the channel, educates the viewers, edits and produce the videos, makes and builds stuff (which alone requires a broad range of skill and knowledge), explores a variety of stuff, knowledgeable on a variety of things, helps in the shop, being a loving father and husband, AND he's the cameraman. Just think for a moment how much work that is on a daily basis and those are only what we can see on-screen. He also genuinely geeks out over tech and comics, unlike some fake channels. If Adam's the titular part of the channel, Norm's definitely the "Tested" part. Props to him.

I have a great technical background for my DIY projects, but I can't help but be impressed every time the folks on Tested show their concept sketches that somehow don't look like they were drawn by a rushed toddler in a car on a bumpy road.

A Tip for all Diode and CO2 Laser Freaks: You can etch on tiles and plates with the Norton White Tile (NWT) Method. The Titanium dioxide in the white paint will get you black engravings, embedded in the cerammic.

I've had a Snapmaker for a few months now. A bit of a learning curve to work out settings to get good results. It's a low power laser and I always underestimate how many passes it will take to cut through a material but etching works well. Anyway, my comment is yes working leather smells, and DO NOT leave your laser unattended when working with paper and cardboard - it's smoky (use in well ventilated area) and the fire hazard is nothing to ignore. In terms of de-masking, the best way I've used is to use a high-adhesive tape, doesn't have to be super strong as long as it's stronger than the masking adhesive.

Have you guys tried raster engraving gradients? I have engraved countersunk holes for fasteners before in .188 MDF/Hardboard. Don't know how time efficient but I did not have much chance to experiment beyond the initial idea.
