This video was so interesting and informative! Thank you! I'm 66 years old and this was the first time I ever heard that the "horn" of a cane is supposed to face forward rather than backward!
You have less control of the cane with the horn forward. Turn the horn backward and for even more control, hold your thumb and first finger on the shaft. I have been making, and using, canes for over 20 years.
Keith, this is a wonderfully informative video. After watching it, I can meticulously think through every choice on every feature of a cane at my leisure, without feeling rushed. Kudos! Phil Chan
Just received my custom cane from Master Keith today. I must say it far exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable. It is flawless and expertly crafted. I’m so glad I had it registered and engraved, because I consider this to be my prized cane above all others and will walk with it proudly. Thank you, Master Keith, and Canemasters.
I love your cane. I bought it because i had an injured knee. I'm almost completely healed after my operation and I walk my dog every day. I'm getting old and the neighborhood is getting rough, so i need protection. Cane is not considered a weapon which makes it perfect!
keith, i received my dojo training cane...that edc cane is a work of art...people always stare at it and ask were i got it from... th training dojo is nice also, very fine walking/ defence canes.. ordering and shipping were top notch also, thank-you randy...
May I suggest on your mobility card, in the TSA section, that you delete "...or checked ...' because, sooner or later, some TSA agent who is having a bad day or who doesn't believe the person in front of them really needs a cane as a mobility device, will insist that the cane be put in the checked luggage and not allow it as a carry-on. The word "or" can be seen as giving them that discretion. Best never to give a bureaucrat a choice as they will usually choose the one that most inconveniences you.
Thanks for the very informative video Keith. You make the lesson very enjoyable and funny. Please keep them coming as I am always looking for a new Cane Masters Cane to add to my quickly growing collection.
The correct length of cane is very east to work out. It's a long tried and trusted system of standing straight as you can and measure the hight of your wrist from the ground. Using a walking cane with the "horn" (traditionally called a crook) facing forward may be good for your messing around but terrible for balance and support to aid movement.
Hi there! The right way to determine the right cane length is to measure your height when wearing your standard walking shoes. Convert your height into inches. Divide it by two and then add ½ inch. You can email us at info@canemasters.com if you need anything.
I found the choices on the website too complex, so I just bought one from the “specials” page that was kinda /sorta in my wheelhouse. Most important- it was long enough.
@CaneMasters-MartialArts could you have Keith do a video with examples of finished canes in the different wood choices? I am seriously considering the pure heartwood hickory nut would like to see one next to a premium oak and sapwood/heartwood hickory cane. Thanks, you’re the best Keith!
Hi there, thanks for your suggestion! You can also check the photos we have on our website for your reference. Pure Hickory Heartwood has the best natural wood color and strength. You can email us at info@canemasters.com if you need anything.
May I suggest that the videos be produced with less frenetic music that competes with the speaker? Some of us dont hear as well as we used to and that music makes it very hard to hear you clearly. Thank you!
Hi there, thanks for reaching out! What we can assure is that our walking canes are made from high-quality woods that can last for a lifetime. You can email us at info@canemasters.com if you need anything.
Yes l have. 2 dogs 1 large and 1 small. Used the end of the cane to try to hold them back trying to shove the cane down there throat. Finally got a chance to land a couple of head shots on the big one that discouraged him and the small dog lost courage and followed the other away. Cane can be very effective defense. You got to train as with any weapon.
Thanks. Man’s “best friend” can be another mans most Dangerous walking experience ! Owners of dangerous dogs or constant barking Dogs are eventually responsible for the dogs behavior. Ignorant owners of dogs Are the problem !
Dog defense - blows to the muzzle/nose. Top or side work but, be swift when making the strike so the attacking dog doesn't grab the cane in its teeth. If the dog has a collar, you can hook the collar as well to keep the dog at bay. Depending on your strength and or dog size you may be able to twist the dog so you are behind and with some upward luft take the dog's front feet off the ground.
@@CaneMasters-WalkingCanes OVER A MONTH AGO I asked a simple question about "ball parking" the cost of your chains. Now you respond…? TO MANY ISSUES WITH YOU AND YOUR COMPANY, FOR ME.
Hello Keith, I have been a month-and-a-half looking at your canes and videos very impressed, I've come to the conclusion of what I'm going to get I know I need to save about $425 and that will be my prize do you have one that's carved on the neck with the wolf head
Hi David, thanks for reaching out! Do you mean putting a wolf head icon on a cane? If yes, we do have it at icon #39. You can email us at info@canemasters.com if you need anything.

To be clear, the speaker’s voice is very clear and easy to listen to…in fact pleasing to listen to…he doesn’t need the music even if it was low enough to here over.👍🏼
I can hear you turn the music up not good don't need the music, But do need to to here you, talking thank you😖 Had a hard time staying By the time I turn down the novice you stared to talk again.
Great series of video's on self defence using a walking cane/stick. Keep them coming and I'll keep watching. Informative, full of useful ideas and how to execute them. Thanks for the effort that you put in to create them. Respect. Due to a recent health issue with my legs. I have now become a walking stick user. Whilst it is very much needed after even a brief walk to the shops and back. On a slow amble through the park or on a brisk walk down the canal path I find myself out of the sight of nosy neighbours, twitchy curtain jockeys and Self righteous Karen's of the world. Therefore I have been practicing some of the self defence moves and stances etc. Once I finish whittling and carving the ornate grips, shark teeth and a slightly more pointed handle hook-end. A bit of leather binding to add the finishing touches and maybe I'll show off what I am holding in my hand when the bad guy/girl. Oh yeah, sorry and the Bad non-brainary neutered ,cosmic spec of pink'n'green hair dyed fairy dust shaped like a person not living in a box. Let me introduce you to a little stick of painful whoop ass. Once again great work, thanks.🧑🦯🏌🤺🦯
I will try to watch this video later, if i can tolerate the noise. Why are most video producers adding music, “Noise” to their videos. With my age comes a loss of hearing also ! 🫨
We are very sorry for the inconvenience. We suggest you lower the volume before you play the video. We appreciate your feedback and we'll make sure to take note of this.
