Another top-notch video. Really appreciate your hard work. You can do any expressions. All good to me. This Desjardins card, not giving any promotional rewards, is a big negative for me.
The Desjardins WE/Gold/VIP have standout travel insurance coverage - possibly the best in Canada. Compared with National Bank WE, the downside here is that Desjardins won’t cover reward tickets for certain travel insurances, but NB will. Huge upside is that Desjardins travel insurances can be extended, while NB emergency medical CANNOT be extended and becomes invalid if you stay a day longer than the stated trip duration limit. Weird feature of Desjardins baggage insurance is that it is linked to age, like the emergency medical. Makes no sense but that’s how it is. Anyway, thanks for covering this card, which no one else really has!
Desjardins has a huge insurance sector. You would expect them to be class leading in that department. But the only problem with Desjardins credit cards in general are that their rewards are way too low compared to its competitors to justify sacrificing rewards for a slightly better insurance. 99% of the times, you won't be using any of the insurance anyways. Even if you do, a regular decent Credit card has more than enough insurance coverages for almost all situations.
Very true. I think insurance becomes more relevant for those who are older maybe in (early) retirement, looking to make longer trips abroad. But you are very right for the vast majority of Canadians with 2 or 3 weeks off at best.
Your youth got in the way of the review. For snowbirds the 60 day insurance for people in their 50s is a huge bonus. That said I go with the Odyssey Gold Visa for lower annual fee and keep this card as a backup card in case there is a problem with my primary card.
Okay, so, what about a card you literally cannot get in BC? The Meridian Cash Back Visa Infinite - where the value is actually pretty good for a VI card (bordering on OP). That said, issued by a credit union, so Ontario only.
I heard about the Meridian Cashback VI. Honestly it's so similar to the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite I feel like it's just a copy and paste LOL. It's an OK card. But I just hate the 4% on Gas. Not that it sucks, but you can just get 4% for Gas by going to a grocery store and using that 4% at grocery stores for gas gift cards. It's a little more inconvenient. But I would much rather get that 4% on something else. Like Recurring Bills.
