Desmond Lynam remembers his time on BBC1's Grandstand in conversation with Sue Barker. Broadcast as part of Grandstand's 40th anniversary on 10 October 1998.
Des was a consummate professional and such a likeable guy. I remember once he was outside Highbury after the North London Derby in August 1997 and he was stopped by a large group of youngsters who all wanted wanted his autograph. He didn't leave until he had signed every single one. Such was the decency of the man.
Des comes across as the consummate professional even with this little lookback as he talks to Sue Barker Presenters of today take note that this is how a master of his profession does it ...
Big Des the smoothie - absolute legend, silver foxed silver tongued stalwart who clearly got our Sue a bit flustered without even raising his moustache - babe magnet extraordinaire and just the best sports anchor ever
Frank Bough as just as professional and unflustered...however, Des is Des and was allowed a twinkle in his eye and the ladies loved him and the guys wanted a drink with him.
