Destiny 2 - LIGHTFALL CAMPAIGN EXPLAINED! The Veil, Final Shape and Secrets Of The Traveler 

Today we recap the events of Lightfall! There are some disappointing moments story wise, but let’s summarize the entire main story. Enjoy

i found it funny that our character after the first cutscene with the witness through the ghost just looks at it and goes "oh yeah im just gonna ignore the fact that you were literally posessed by the witness talking to calus no problem with that at all"

I loved the fact that Calus refers to players as “My Tenacious little guardian” except when they have the Shadow Title, in which he calls them “My Shadow.” I love when games reference things like that.

Calus’s reaction to not getting a toast from the tormentors sums up this expansion lol

I know this campaign just came out, but it gave me more questions than answers, hope the final shape is worth it.

Story was incoherent. In the ending of seraph, the witness wanted eramis to blow up the traveller, but in the ending cutscene, the witness needed the traveller alive for its plan so why try to blow it up? Next, for the first half of the missions, the witness wants calus to use the radial mast (never actually explained what it is) to destroy the veil, though in the final mission, the witness clearly needed the veil to enact its plan so why try to destroy it earlier. Also, it’s egregious that we still don’t actually know WHAT the veil is.

Veil is defined as a piece of clothing used to obscure the face, etc. I think all the previous attempts at harming the Traveler were an attempt to replicated the Veils effect. Going back to what was said earlier in the series about the Traveler being referred to as "Pale heart" I think what The Witness wants to do is unite all the forces. The Light (force of life), The Darkness (force of death) and The Strands (bonds that transcend time and space) together in an amalgous state that can only be described as "Not Dead Nor Alive; existing as both Past, Present, and Future, all in one."

Funny that Rohan says “not all of us have lives to spare” to Osiris, a guardian without a ghost, meaning he has no lives to spare too XD

Witness power seems to be on a extreme level. We have dealt with the Taken, Siva, timelines and illusions but his powers seems to be more scarier yet interesting.

Shame Calus wasn’t a raid boss, but still, he died as he lived. Sitting in a pile of his own filth

When 'The Witness' showed off it's power over the ghost, when we saw it and Calus conversing about their plans; really should have taken it at face value about cluing us in that our Ghost was made into a contingency Trojan Horse.

Love it that Osiris was ready to throw hands but the cloud striders got it covered

Like many people said, Lightfall was definitely a filler and wasn’t planned until recently. I really hope the final shape redeems it because it could be the very thing that ties all the loose ends to this enormous story

I always thought of the witness being us (Our guardian). That in a alternate timeline the traveler managed to turn us (the witness) to the light and we fought the darkness as a champion for the light. After a victorious battle we decided to go back in every timelines (Similar to what the Exo Stranger did) were it was our destiny to be the light that guides humanity but now I don't think that's the case. I know it's a bats**t insane theory but I think our ghost is the witness and we're the traveler in human form. If you go back to the final boss battle in Beyond Light when we fought Eramis, our ghost was knocked out and she had the artifact that allowed us to use stasis yet when we looked within ourselves we were able to do (directly quoting her) the impossible. I think the grimoire card pertaining to us being unbound gave us a clue to what the final shape is supposed to be. Our final shape will be neither light or dark but something that's more powerful than both. It's something that we get to determine ourselves (similar to what we can do with strand, if you fundamentally break down what strand is then you'll see it's no different than what the witness does. Just like Oryx, we learned the ability to take but in a different way). Continuing the theory, We fought the final big boss of the story and won but at a heavy loss. To stop that possible future from happening, we went back in time with our ghost but was somehow separated in every timeline (I thought of that when Osiris saw us in an alternate timeline without our ghost and wielding saints shotgun). Which is why when our ghost finally finds us it says that it's been looking for us for a long time. I think the reason why our ghost just doesn't flat out tell us our past (Knowing exactly who we really are) is to prevent any mistakes that may have caused the casualties leading up to our original victory. Similar to the Exo Strangers story last season with her floating companion. Instead of pushing us like it's doing now, it's giving us the freedom to make our own choices. I know it's a crazy theory but the vex and the witness are not working together nor are they on the same side. Both parties have different agendas and motives at play. The Curse of Osiris DLC proved that in the possible future Osiris saw. Even the Exo Stranger says the true threat is the vex back in D1.

Savathun is gonna be the Travelers Ace in the hole. It's gonna go down in true savathun fashion too. The Witness is gonna get so far that everyone will think it's about to succeed, then at the last moment... IT WAS ALL A TRICK BY SAVATHUN

Nothing will beat Osiris jumping out of that escape pod ready to rumble

26:22 so the Witness gets made because Calus says “you hold the universe in your grasp, and all you can think to do it with it is ….” and then he gets cutoff by the Witness. so I do understand this was just a dream of Calus’s. however, the Witness being mad at that statement is because he doesn’t have the universe in his grasp. and that leads to the Witness’s “purpose” which is it stop the creation of life. the Veil was needed in order to enter the Traveler, I believe and there have been hints to what is inside the traveler (“a cosmos in a bottle”). and the Witness is after “it’s pale heart” which is the “key” to stopping creation. this would then fulfill the Witness’s “purpose”… that being to stop the creation of life. as “the universe makes us all victim… in its infinite cruelty”( 39:21 ) so to be clear, the intentions of the Witness, his so called “purpose” is to end the universe.

I just hope by the end of this Light Dark saga we have ALL our questions answered. Drifter choice, Traveler and Witness deep dive and possibly explanation of the entire plot or influence it had along our way and more. I'm okay with Questions for now as long as they wrap it up nicely

I think a part that is not stated is how the Witness used us and Calus to get the Veil! I thought it was weird that our Ghost relayed that message but the ending made sense. The Witness wanted us to know so we would impulsively rush in and be the one to set the link. Witness never wanted Calus to be a true disciple but wanted him to be an ends to mean!

Lightfall campaign definitely was cool to play and it gave some more lore and some surprises as usual but the biggest surprise was nightmare disciple (can't remember how his name) is still alive in the vex Network apparently which is just very confusing like how in the world do you die in the physical world and then transport to the Vex Network that doesn't make sense now who am I kidding it's Space Magic it solves everything it is the logic of the entire universe itself still do I wonder well we face him in the raid or will he seasonal final boss I hope it's the first option and probably the most likely

Neomuna is really pretty but if everyone was uploaded into the cloudarc why leave the city as it is? shouldn't it just be a bunch of servers

It was a good campaign for me since I watched your earlier lore vid, i understood much more, but I’m fine with a lot of questions, people were just expecting witch queen level campaign but I think they’re really holding off for the seasons and final shape

So that mural we see at Rohan's death is full of implications that i wish they had just talked about. The witness is the bottom skellyman thing and there is a ghost right next to him. I am pretty sure our whole concept of the collapse and the traveler was convenient lies and neomuna knows more than what we saw, but they should have just told us.

I bet not even Bungie knows what The Veil is, because I just finished the campaign and I can guarantee that nobody that finished the campaign knows what the F is actually the Veil. Right know my only guess is that it's "some paracausal sh*t" and thats pretty much it. Half the campaign is just us messing around with Strand. It feels so weird that even post-campaign everyone keeps talking about "The Veil this and the Veil that" and I'm like "ok but what's the Veil please explain?" and why Zavala and Ikora keep telling us that the Traveler is gone? Clearly the end cinematic didn't show that and you can even still see the Traveler with the Triangular-shaped portal on it on the destination map. What happened with the narrative team? Again they did such a good job with the WQ campaign and then Lightfall happens. I'm so confused bro.

even now after completing the campaign, I think this stands as a prime example of the Devs being like: "hey so we completed the gameplay plan, it's super tight! [Strand] functions great, so glad we took the extra time to fine-tune it. ... The game shipped YESTERDAY???"

This expansion is incredibly mediocre. My expectations weren’t that high after the terrible year of the past 3 seasons but wow. I didn’t think WQ was really comparable to Forsaken, TTK, or even ROI, but it was good step forward without Activison’s backing. This is a step backwards. The campaign was terrible and rushed. The nimbus dude was insufferable, but I thought there’d at least be some good story payoff at the end of his atrocious dialogue; I was badly wrong. Bungie has really lost their touch recently.

Almost nothing is explained in the campaign. We are running from from one place to the next without understanding what is is we are after and why. Bungie needs to slow down and allow the story to breathe, and create some tension. They are content to shovel the most interesting story pieces out of the campaign and onto the lore books, or post campaign missions. Also, Nimbus was super annoying. What was the point for that character? The voice sounded weird and it felt like MCU style humor where after 10 minutes you are like “please just shut up”. Rohan was way cooler imo. Witch Queen was way better. I’d argue even Beyond Light.

Something I’ve always wanted to know is who is our characters story? was our character someone related to any of the characters or was it just some random? I hope so since idk much of the lore but the fact our character was the only one who could wield the light when no one else could was interesting

caiatl telling our guardian to destroy our ghost and our guardian actually pointing a gun at it is the worst cutscene in destinys history

the beginning of the campaign reminded me of halo 3 odst, and at 13:59 it reminded me of Halo CE with the warthhog section near the end of the game

what if... what if the ENTIRE Calus storyline here was all misdirection? The Witness knew if it took us on directly, we'd probably win through sheer numbers alone. instead, it set up the Emperor to be our focal point while IT located the Veil, and once Neptune was found, we went straight there, and fought through to the Veil to 'stop' Calus from claiming it. The Witness either knew Calus would fail, or if it didn't, it knew that no matter which side won, it would be able to link to the Veil regardless. The Radial Mast was its "homemade" way of doing this, kind of like a surrogate for what our ghost did. The Witness SHOWED US this "destroy the Veil" version of events, probably even explicitly TOLD Calus to do so, so that WE would beat him there and enable the Witness to link, OR we would die trying, and that's one less obstacle. Now, this was NOT properly communicated in the story as it is, and while the damage there is done, Bungie can absolutely salvage this into something better as the next couple of seasons progress. Shame it was such a dud though, this whole setup had/still has serious potential.

If the witness talking through our ghost doesn’t tell y’all that the traveler and the witness are the fragments of the final shape. I’m guessing just like with religion the gardener and the winnower were one being, got bored, decided to split itself in two (Adam and eve) and played a game of creation and destruction. The darker half of the god (the winnower; the witness) decided the traveler wasn’t playing fair anymore and attacked. In the books it said the winnower crested the first bladed in existence and struck the gardener. I’m guessing the traveler has the witness imprisoned somewhere where only she can unlock and free him. I’m guessing that’s why he speaks through broken glass. Also, in that finale cutscene with the witness, he looking at a wall of darkness, like a veil, splits it and reveals the solar system. Like he’s on the outside looking in. Like Osiris said the traveler creates through terraforming therefor it’s power exists in the physical while the witness interacts through influence; nightmares and possession. Just my theory, plz comment !

I thought this was going to be more epic! Having just joined Destiny in Season of the Seraph I was so hyped for Lightfall. I felt The Witness was just chilling for most of this. Like it’s power level is so high we should have seen more. I really wanted an infinity war feel. Destruction left right and centre but instead we got a campaign about strand

I...um....Humm. I enjoyed it. The campaign was fun. It was terribly short though. I also felt like Bungie did a terrible job of explaining things. We should have learned what the veil is. How this ties together. I want to know more about Neomuna. Maybe its their play to keep people coming back? IDK. I am mixed about this. Hopefully the seasons hash it out a bit more.

It feels like the plot of destiny is getting weaker and weaker as time goes on. Almost like the secrets and shrouds we've experienced are just ways of them covering up the fact that they have no idea what they're doing with the story.

I actually hope the reason it showed us not shhot the ghost at the end like that is setting up the next year where our gaurdian is looked at with contempt and we go through this wqhole regret arc for not doing it. That might be the only way I can think of to save the story from here,.

I believe we did not have any chouse on how it will end, Witness planned all our actions! For starters Witness is ions old and possibly can move true time, had plenty of time to plan all strategies. He started talking to us true ghost long before he arrives in sol system. Next what was interesting for me - he destroyed other guardians, their ghosts and ships with ease, but did nothing to us, even we was there flying around as well. He needed us to go to Neptune. Next part when he spoke with Calus true our ghosts - he knew that Calus would fail because Calus failed to us in past so withness hiddenly "told" us then we need to go and protect it our self the veil to get our ghost there.

Every time I see Shakira the ghost. I feel a little bit sad because I have almost the ghost. But then some personal face happens and now I can't together anymore

It's a interesting campaign

Everyone seems to be forgetting that lightfall is four seasons of content and instead are already complaining about what it is/isn’t after the first damn day. 🤦🏾‍♂️

I wish we had an idea of why the traveler does that at the beginning for the campaign.. what if the traveler is much smarter & aware than we think... like it's trying to create some kind of trap that leads to the end of the witness. I could be way off & that's fine but why would the traveler do what it did?

LightFall was basically an 80’s action film

destiny 2 is so huge now, and most of the story is not well translated with gameplay inside the game itself - so it is much more fun to watch those videos!

I still won’t forget how Osiris says No in a tone which he was suppose to be the wisest guardian of what I’ve heard

Few things 1. I believe bungie might continue the story via each season and by the end of the expansion we will know where we are going. They did say they were gonna change how the story goes. 2. Did you notice how the Witness did not once physically interact with anything. 3. I agree partially with you views but still thinking to give it a few weeks and see how things go.

all i got from lightfall campaign was that the witness wanted to destroy the veil for some reason or another so he sent calus to do just that it felt more like a prologue and that it was meant to be a part of final shape but cut off to make em some more $$$ 'cause it sure had an abrupt ending nothing was really explained the ghost did something with the veil roll end credits i would've wanted more quests here like for example trying to find out what the deuce really happened who made our ghost do what he did? edit:now that i c this again i think that this veil thingy was slapped on top of the real mission namely to get strand it was perhaps even meant to be part of witch queen?

I’m not going to lie this campaign was really flat compared to WQ Bungie overhyped and over marketed this expansion.

the border between light and darkness is referenced a lot through basically all of destiny. so maybe the veil is the border? and thats why the witness needed it to enter the traveler? idk just a random thought

I played through this campaign after not touching d2 for months and months. It was fun and i love the lively energy of the 80's inspired retro town. I really struggled to follow and engage with the storyline. It didnt feel immersive or believable compared to older content. Im not sure what theyre planning for Osirus but he was a real wet blanket, hopefully he becomes an enemy next expansion and we can end him.

Can someone explain to me, if everyone in Neomuna is uploaded to their Neptunian metaverse, why are there building looking like living quarters, social spaces like bars (it all can be in virtual space, why bother) and where do Cloudstriders come from, are they printing some unlucky Neomuni back to real world when there's need to replace one? And why aren't Cloudstriders uploaded back to the CloadArk in case of death. Like with Rohan, Nimbus got his core, it could've been black box of sorts... nothing of this makes sense for me.

I don’t understand what the veil is. I don’t understand why we only met two cloudstriders. I don’t understand what the cloudstriders are and why they even exist considering neomuna has been hidden from all conflicts until now. I don’t understand the citizens of neomuna because I get that they are uploaded to the thingy but do they no longer have human bodies and if they don’t then why is there an entire city if there is no one to live in it.

Great video fella, love watching your vid's, but love how the cloud strider's say we live 10 years, but noone is taking about that but 1 year on Neptune is 165 years on Earth, so they are about 1650 earth years old that a long time ;-) lol

1:58 - Whoever made this cutscene has no idea how space works. You wouldn't be pushed back by "wind" as the the ship accelerates to FTL, because you're accelerating with it. Instead, everything around the ship would appear to move. You wouldn't need to strain to "climb" that ladder to the hatch; you could literally just let go of the ladder and would float there until the ship made some kind of change in velocity, or you would "fall" onto the hull if there is artificial gravity.

Welp that was a giant mystery at the end guess we'll have to wait and see.

Bro honestly, they better resolve a LOT of shit in the raid next week. I've had fun generally playing through the campaign putting all the shit cringe dialogue aside, but EVERYTHING about the story is so, so, so badly executed. I honestly have a hard time coming to terms with it.

I'm kind of rooting for the network going down and the lights going out for everyone. Uploaded their consciousness into something that's so precarious at best. Seems deserving that they would all get taken out.

Just to put things into perspective, the scene with Callus saying he's "glorious" to the Witness who rolls his eyes and turns away. Kinda feel like Callus is Bungie and the players are the Witness.... yeah we waited a year for this. "Waiter, check please."

I think bungie focused more on the QOL of the game.

Lightfall Narratively = 7/10 Gameplay = 10/10 Narratively it felt rushed, I feel like half of the story is missing, would have loved to see where the Witness came from and it’s story. Light-fall started so strong, and when they killed Rohan off real quick, it kinda went down from there… But I also understand, this is very early out! I will wait until the raid releases and a couple weeks passed first. But this is just early reactions! But I also understand that this is “the beginning of the end.” So I wasn’t expecting too much, but I think because narratively it fell off short, so it bummed a lot people out. But for now. 7/10 for narrative, but gameplay was very fun 10/10! Strand really carried the story, it’s the most fun I had in awhile.

Stylistically the expansion is weird, I feel like that it was way too much "lighthearted " for how it's positioned narratively. The neomuna looks like it should have been after the climax of the story, a sort of Victory tour to celebrate the end of the light/dark arc

Wow rewatching this made me realize how good this story is like the twists are so subtle I understand how the average person wouldn’t get it. Basically everything has been the witnesses plan Calus is just a tool so we would create the link with our ghost. And even rapustins death was apart of the plan. The witness never wanted to destroy the traveler it was all a test. I hope they explain how deep it goes and how savathun relates. Bungie rly out here tryna make a aizen ass villain

So this sphere of light, aka the Terraforming Traveler, is a Paracausal entity containing a piece/strand of the darkness (a tetrahedron pyramid) within it’s core. A notion, I hypothesized, when the traveler threw off the chains of the red Legion and incidentally alerted the ‘darkness’ tetrahedron ships to its coordinates. I guess the real question is, how will this change its ‘final shape’? will the traveler transform itself? will the Traveler be modified? will the tetrahedron pyramid be extracted?

I think in season 21 our guardians may finally learn how to swim instead of stepping into the “poison water” and dying lol.

Honestly I don't mind the mystery with The Veil, the ghost compared it to The Traveler, and it's not like we know like anything about that guy.

How can the drop pod only hold one guardian?

For the rest of the story, pay $30, and we promise to only stretch this for another 4 to 9 parts.
