I agree, but lore wise that would but kinda scary. Even if we kept the ones like Riven and Tiranas around, their children could also turn into more malevolent wish dragons. I would 100% love if the guardian makes a wish to keep the brood safe from the vanguard contingent on that the vanguard tries to patch up their rocky relationship with the new generation of wish dragon and that the new wish dragons do not grant wishes of darkness. Then given a legit wish dragon as a weapon. Like the 1k voices but on steroids because it is still alive! Like make it a 720 auto rifle that builds up stacks of flaming wish that once full the next first shot of a mag gives big boom kinda like the hunters gambler bomb.
They are cool but the problem is most of them weren't exactly nice to humanity or the guardians. Riven literally stated that Taranis was the odd one that didn't screw people over. The others were predatory.
@@AdeptKing She never stated that they screwed people over for the purpose of doing it because it was fun, but because that is how they fed and got their nourishment. She specifically stated that he was odd in the fact that those who wished to him he loved and protected those people. Riven is clearly not a malevolent being, she's not going around and making wishes with the purpose turning the wishes for fun, but because she needs to feed to survive for her brood. Also to your point, they weren't exactly nice to all races, both light and dark. Now were there dragons whose sole purpose was to fuck over people in the most cruel way possible, yes, but Riven and Tiranas clearly were not. As stated by the Exo-Quest Tir made a wish to our guardian, which cost him his final life, to protect his young ones and even gave us the tools to do so, riven only put us on the scent because she too wants her young to be safe and be raised by one of the same mind as both of them (imho).
@@alexpluskett241 yep, and those eggs actually share the same blood as Taranis', so it's possible that the children will inherit of his temper, as Riven may also be able to understand us and, by extension, humanity, in the following weeks. So it's possible that we end end up with "good" wish dragons after the eggs have hatched
It really gave more depth into the ahamkaras this season. They aren’t evil they were surviving. The great hunt actually seems like it was extremely tragic with more knowledge of it. These creatures were hunted down for just doing what they were naturally supposed to do. And learning multiple different ahamkaras now adds much more to them. Even knowing if they grant there own wish they will cease to exist
Oh totally. Instead of wish dragons that turn Aesop fables into dangerous states of reality we have heckin' wholesome doggos in love airtight? Garbage.
The cutscene was so beautifully delivered. It not only humanised a villain, but vilified us as humans. The last time we got this perspective was in Splicer. Guardians, including Saint-XIV we’re finally shown how monstrous they are to an external observer. How much fear we strike into Loren and adults alike. A tormentor that refuses to rest and die. Now we face the ghosts of our actions during the great hunt, and how we ruined countless lives. All so we could say we won today.
Something about seeing ahamkara roam freely feels so beautiful, I would’ve loved to see them naturally in game. This cutscene is now my favorite in all of destiny, A character I already loved, being fleshed out even more, and shown not to be a full villain, feels amazing.
@WestCoastPlague Nice try trying to be clever, I guess. Gee, I wonder what mainline DLC the current season is under? It's definitely not Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, or Witch Queen. Hmmm, I suppose that leaves Lightfall as the DLC that the current season is under. Crazy how I deduced that information. Yessssss of course, Wish-Ender released with Forsaken, and is now being tied into the current seasons Exotic, Wish-Keeper. Wild I know.
@car9182 What kills me is you white knighting. Ain't no way you can't look at a comment saying Wish-Keeper ISNT in Lightfall and not just face palm so hard it leaves a mark.
@@BuckShot456789 It's not white knighting, not sure what kind of narrative you're trying to paint. The guy clearly sounds confused. I'm just saying it wouldn't kill you to not be rude
I was enjoying the wholesomeness between riven, taranis and the ahamkara, then got chills after she mentioned the great hunt, more of this bungie, more memorable stories. ❤
For what the Awoken knew of their history, and the foul bargains they made, many couldn’t risk the lives of millions in the hopes of compromising with the dragons. Unfortunately, there weren’t many Ahamakara like Taranis. If not for the hundreds other Ahamakara, most of them being untrustworthy, and costing people their lives, beyond even death, we wouldn’t have had reason to exterminate them all. The Wish Dragons have always been fickle, and nuetral. Only beholden to their nature. Nearly all but Riven and Taranis were able to question, and change their nature: to try and live on without feeding, without malice. Because most of them had ill intentions, we’d killed them all, including the few tat meant us the least harm. More recent stories show us that some Ahamkara could forgo their nature, and instead be benevolent and not cause pain and death with their wish magic. Yet, the Great Hunt spared none of them. Still, there was a whole civilization that managed to live alongside them in peace. Though, the Hive probably killed many of the dragons too. We’d simply finished what the Hive started: the elimination of the Ahamakara. Though we aim to save all of existence, at this point, I’ve accepted we Guardians, and our allies, are not heroes. We’re survivors. We sacrifice pieces of ourselves, many lifetimes, to ensure we, and those we protect, see a brighter, safer future, without the fear of death. Not just to live, but thrive. At this point, we Guardians are not heroes. But we are not simply, “paracusal” as Savathun said. We’re Guardians. We do many deeds that must be done. Good and bad. Dirtying our hearts, minds, and souls, so the innocent many that didn’t ask for the Collapse, for the Hive to slaughter them, may survive, and eventually live, and prosper. How we mend our mistakes, if we can, and whether or not we may simply destroy that which opposes us as the Hive do, is yet to be seen. If Riven’s spawn are to live again, perhaps we can nurture a different nature. One that is not beholden just to hunger, and the cycle of desire. The dark deeds and past of the Gurdians, and our allies, has shown us. If we are to survive, and defeat the Witness. We may not build our own Golden Age once more, not without working to atone and mend our mistakes. We must learn from our past, to build a better future. Of what more Guardians could be. Still, the blood of the dragons may yet never dry.
That shot of riven and taranis running together and having there eggs is so fricken beautiful. It almost makes me feel bad for riven. She lost her mate and the father of her clutch because of the great hunt separating them where they just wanted peace and oryx coming and taking riven but leaving her free will. It’s so upsetting that taranis sacrificed himself to save there clutch just to keep them out of danger.
I mean she basically said that Taranis was the practically the only ahamkara that didn't try to use the wishes as a way of tormenting others so I still don't feel all that bad about the great hunt. Like, humanity didn't hunt the ahamkara for no reason, they were extremely dangerous.
Season of the Witch single-handedly was better than Lightfall. Then season of the Wish drops another banger. These two seasons if I put them on a scale would carry this entire year in D2.
Man I would love to play a Guardian in the time of the Great Hunt or see much more content about it. Because I really like the Star Wars Bounty Hunter theme of it
If Saint-14 became the protector of House Light's Eliksni/Fallen after hearing about the story of "The Saint", this reveal is going to make Shaxx some sort of "Dragon Protector" from here on out. And being the Lord of the Crucible, that would be quite BADASS, ya'know? Imagine being the eternal, indisputable ruler of the thing that forges Guardians into efficient warriors through learning experience, backed up by mythical creatures who will be taught to grant wishes without malice (since Taranis' offspring are PURE). I bet Shaxx will offer a weekly chance for the best Guardians to wish for one exotic weapon through his breed of Dragon Wish Granters. All the while having his beloved Queen by his side. Damn, Shaxx just got even *mightier* than he was before.
He didn't want to kill the ahamkara which is why they sent him to kill so many and he was sad about each one he killed, he'd probably want the ability to bring them life
Maybe this is just me but I still don't feel bad for Riven. Before her mate, she was still manipulating others and afterwards, took a bargain with the taken king and started tormenting a lot of innocent awoken. She was hurting people and so were the ahamkara before the great hunt. Yeah, the guardians and awoken overdid it with an almost complete genocide but still she chose to torment innocents in the dreaming city for now almost five years. Yes, she lost her mate, yes I understand the choices she made but choosing to continue to torment others does not absolve what she did even if it makes it more understandable. Good writing here done by bungie, made a villain more relatable but shes still very much cruel
I see her more as an animal than anything else. She made wishes to feed herself. It's in her nature. This is why Taranis was an exception, and obviously an exceptional being, yet, still an animal. But sure, she did bad things, like most of her race.
@@okeoke4697 Absolutely. It's even implied that by not twisting wishes, Taranis was essentially starving himself. Like a vampire refusing to drink human blood. If I had to guess it's simply the case that after untold generations of Ahamkara there's no point not to revel in 'monkey pawing' wishes because there is no other way for an Ahamkara to be that isn't a life of abject pain
Even when destiny writes something cool I can’t help but he angry because we are still playing in a boring world that keeps telling us how magical and crazy the world was maybe 40 years ago. It was abundant in a true magical science fiction away and now it’s just cabal , hive , fallen, vex, zombie fallen and taken versions of all of the formers. It’s so sad . I keep coming back to peek at the story but I always remember how destiny was promised to us when it hadn’t released yet. Like damn we could have had a Skyrim style stories and variety once maybe. Actual mystery and unlocking guns and parts and armor instead of the generic stuff we got now
Meh, all this "Oh poor Riven!" Completely ignores the evil nature of the Ahamkara. To quote "My joy of turning desire to woe." There is no redeeming facet of the Ahamkara.
I love the idea of the Ahamkara but their designs are just awful. They could have been beautiful creatures but instead we get a rat tiger with a mess of claws, teeth, and weird kaiju skull.
Bro the ahamkara were just trying to exist 😭. They didn't deserve their fate. It was the wishes they granted that made them dangerous. But it's in their nature. It's was they were born to do.
For those who don't want to read the lore (there's a lot), the Ahamkaras were never evil, represented a threat, or had malevolent intentions. They were just sentient beings living their lives freely, just like anyone else in the universe. It was the greed of humanity (mostly) and other species that made wishes dangerous. Even when they knew that no matter what their wish was, it would end in a tragic ending. They deserve a second chance, and if it happens, I hope it is far far away from humanity.
Wait a moment. So they can choose to be unironic in the wishes they grant. Just almost all ahamkara traditionally choose to play the djinn thing because that way they maintain a difference between reality and desire. But if you roll like Taranis did then you are going to get a lot more business from wishers since they not longer need to be so cautious about it. He'd have been able to win on volume. It looks like a classic game theory trap-fueled vicious cycle that the ahamkara got themselves stuck in with the whole squeezing every wish for the most difference between desire and reality they could strategy. But that then cost them business and eventually led to the great hunt. If all the players had played it altruistic they'd have been much better off. Which probably goes back to Riven's comment about how ahamkara were always too isolated and not social creatures, non cooperative creatures by nature. She realized the mistake after seeing Taranis' alternative it seems. But then why did she stay the course?
It sounds like there’s a downside to it? She said he had to sacrifice for it. Granting wishes is how they feed, so he was probably basically starving himself in the process.
…this… makes me wish this game was an actual RPG with dragons wandering around. This was great lore. …instead we get to spend a year chasing a space emo that is less interesting than most of the characters we’ve gotten in the preceding ten years.
Honestly, the entire narrative is harmed by tied to a live service game. Like, have you seen the concept art for Calus, Rhulk, and Nezarec? Calus was supposed to fucking SUMO CLAP US. Spill a fucking goblet, be a full on mighty brawler and shit! And Rhulk had so many martial arts moves cut! And Nezarec was supposed to wrap up into a shape resembling the Nezarec's Sin helmet and shit, like, I couldn't even properly tell what I was seing but I thought it was fucking awesome! Can you imagine how amazing it would have been to see even MORE Disciples? Instead of the two brief years we got with them before Final Shape, which Eramis, Fikrul, and Xivu Arath got shelved for, had them be like actual antagonists around throughout the narrative to oppose us and characterise the Witness?
Is this a retcon? I thought Mara only had one Ahamkara and that tne egg uldren brought her was really rare. Here it looks like a bunch of ahamkara used to live in the dreaming city.
No, the dreaming city hosting a ton of Ahamkara at one point has been in the lore since 2018. I think there are a few lore cards on it and the patrol missions talk about it too. Riven's mate was never mentioned before though, at least by that name.
Mara had no clue that riven had a clutch, even a mate. She thought riven was the last “known” ahamkara. Riven stated that before the great hunt ahamkara used to visit and roam the dreaming city hence how riven found taranis
I told everyone they aren't evil... but everyone is too wrapped up in the fact they were doing "good" or that they would be better not to listen to her. That she is still the one who was taken, and worked with them... yet, here we are. Turns out, just like the fallen, greed befell the first generation guardians, and thus wipped a sentient species from the face of the galaxy/universe. As they had almost done to many others undeserving of such brutality. I feel the only ones deserving were the Hive, for obvious reasons, and the Cabal, since they were a warrior race, and thus would see more good in such actions against them, and see it as a challange. But the fallen, who weren't there to fight nor wanted any real trouble at first... the Ahamkara who were living peacefully, and even originally being semi hostile and unfriendly to the Awoken... it just seems obvious who was more evil than any other, its no wonder the Traveler wanted to have Savathun wisk it away into her thrown world to escape. Those who think the traveler was being tricked, it had all the power it needed to escape her throne world, we see what it can do when it readies itself for combat against targets it doesn't like. But it didnt, meaning it was clearly allowing it to happen as even if Savathun was going to conduct experiments onto it. What it would sustain from them would be nothing compared to the witness catching it. Just dont tell Saint, I feel like he'd literally torture himself more than he already does if he knew the pain he caused to everyone and thing from the past. Since he not only participated in said hunt, but is likely one of the few guardians who contributed so many of those skulls to the pile. If he knew that when he genocided another species that just like the fallen he was causing nothing but grief, pain, misery, loss, and destroying a family who was happier before his arrival... bro would probably end himself, even with the help of Osiris being back. At the very least, he'd likely take his own light away from himself, as atonement.
Nope, I still feel nothing for her, lol. She killed Cayde, almost killed us, took the Techeuns, aided Oryx AND Savathun, cursed the Dreaming City, and now has the gaul to ask something of us.
@@ironladyerimuthIkr? I’d be just as spiteful as she is if that happened to me, and I guarantee many of the people that hate Riven would be just as bad, if not worse than she is in her boots.
You do realize she was under oryx’s influence right? He took her but only left her half of her free will. We murdered her species and even killed some of her corrupted children. Yes she aided in murdering cayde but that was because of oryx’s influence which led to savathun taking the will and using her to bring the curse. So you can thank savathun for that. Savathun asked for a wish and she granted it because that’s how they feed and stay alive. Without that they slowly wither away to nothing
lore reveals 2 years ago: "ok don't tell him but banshee is the rebel clone of clovis bray, thats why he somehow knows how all of tecnology works even if he can't remember much" Lore reveals today: "Riven had a boyfriend 😍" Fuck this childish game, i quit this fuckery
@@rakionyellowmind2293 you named precisely why the revenue dropped by 50% in that one sentence, dragged out, worthless season system, and therefore a fake ass cutscene... Then saying because it is a season what you except..
Tell me, when has the season model dropped a cutscene in the middle of the season. The beginning of it, yeah we have seen it (I think) and the ending of it. These art pieces build a story that is both cost effective and they actually look nice.
