First off this isnt criticism more of a dream or a want. The only thing absent is Siva and the nine. While I have no idea how to write the nine into this expansion I feel like siva would of fit exceptionally well. Think about it, the witness isn't really after the final shape as in calcification of everything. It's afraid all it actually wants is to control everything, the inner voices confirmed as much and it wanting to rule along side you also confirmed it. It wants to not be afraid and to that end it needed to control everything even matter. Siva would of allowed this well for it's invasion into the traveler, Siva is in its perfect form a tool made to be controlled, the fallen splicers knew that well. Loved the expansion by the way, I'm sure by the time I play it more it will be the best one yet, just got some nostalgia for that siva expansion, the wall run in the raid was stellar and memorable for me.
I went in with very low expectations (for obvious reasons) and overall with the story, new class, gear, and set ups for the future I think the final shape is great as an expansion and a great ending to destiny’s first sage story.
All they need to do is carry this momentum and keep making bangers. Hopefully the next saga for Destiny is gonna be amazing. Really wanna see what they gonna do with the Vex with how much they were involved in the Final Shape along with Savathun and Xivu Wraith wanting to take over the traveler. Either way, I believe the Vex are gonna be intimidating
@@ParisPKdon't forget that the Winnower is still a thing and may play some role. Xivu may not be the only Hive to worry at all since, despite having had three Hive Gods, after the fight against the witness and the spread of Echoes throughout the Universe, some new power beings may appear, including other Hive. They did manage to introduce something that opens a door to new possibilities without making the Light and the Darkness the main thing.
@@GuigaRizzo I did forget about that. The Winnower still exists. I’m genuinely scared and terrified because if it took one raid squad to just stop him and then 12 guardians and the entire galaxy to defeat the witness, I just wanna know what’s gonna happen when we go against the Winnower????? Omg im getting chills in my bones
@@ParisPK That's the thing i guess. Like in Constatine, God and the devil cannot act directly on earth but have their "soldiers" doing the work, trying to influence people to do their will, etc. Maybe the Winnower cannot act directly, but instead, it needs other, like the Witness (the First Knife) to carry it's wishes. So we may find other powerful enemies who are similar to the Witness but have learned from it's fail and now, search by other means to end the existence.
@@ParisPK Bungie did it again. They closed a lot of stories and open a lot more...which i don't mind to pay for IF they keep the narrative like they did in Final Shape.
the overall experience for me tho final shape=forsaken>witchqueen, the only thing pulling witchqueen back is its following season being too conservative and boring except seraph
Eeeeeeeh... It's time for me to be that "um, actually" guy. In my opinion, Forsaken was way better in terms of content variety, which the Final Shape severely lacks (at least, until the episode starts). Let's put it this way: it's the best expansion ever *in terms of gameplay mechanics overhaul and main story quest quality.* We'll see how everything else will turn out, can't trust Bungie until all cards are on the table.
My son (he started when he was 6) and I have been playing Destiny since the fall of 2014. Until June 4th, I feel as if I could make a strong argument that Taken King was Destiny’s greatest expansion. But after the first week of play (campaign, the raid, the final mission, and the post-campaign content), we both agree - This is Destiny’s greatest expansion…and Bungie’s greatest achievement.
Anyone else get vibes to the D1 Kvostov exotic mission from the cutscene at the end of the 12 player activity? Ghost’s sacrifice was hella sad, Cayde cemented himself as a true bro bringing back Ghost. I had a feeling our Ghost would be the key to defeating the Witness but man did this still tug at my heartstrings.
Something I feel needs to be pointed out is the emphasis on encounter design in the campaign. With a few exceptions, most previous campaigns had little to no serious planning when it came to enemy placement, density, and balance. They felt either too easy, or arbitrarily difficult, with the main focus being on advancing the story. However, the encounters in the pale heart feel carefully tuned to encourage different tactical and strategic planning. Everything from which subclass to use to where should you take cover feels thought out such that you (the casual player) can't simply run some OP build and just steamroll the opposition. The boss fight at the end of the first chapter felt quite intense, and it was so refreshing. I felt more like i was playing Quake 1 or OG Halo, and that is certainly a good thing.
The way we defeated the witness reminds me of the beginning of lightfall when the travel shot a beam of light at it but it did nothing. So I guess we had to wound the witness first before using the light to finish it.
Hope so. The last 4 expansions other than witch queen really haven't been it for me. But im an old vanilla Destiny 1 vet so it seems fitting to enjoy the end.
I can't get over how good it feels that it didn't suck. I really enjoy the Pale Heart - thought I do hope they eventually let it move from an instance experience - I miss actual public events. It's just beautifully realized, though - I mean, I've just stood at that back window in the old Vanguard room marveling at it. The snow traverse stuff is so fun, too. Aware of how much my enjoyment of this game (been playing since about the first month of D1) has increased because of creators like you. Thanks for all you've done - excited to see what is next.
Always thought Keith David would be a good choice for Zavala’s voice actor. Unfortunate the original VA passed but at least we still have a great voice for Zavala.
I never cried playing a video game ever in my 40+ yrs around the sun... when I say I cried MULTIPLE times, I mean that shxt!! I'm talking big tears!! I've never been so immersed in a game my entire life, but this right here took the cake, ate, and licked the crumbs off the plate!!!
I feel ya. I’m 40. And definitely welled up a few times. It felt more like an end in real life too. Idk. Been through a lot in the last ten years. And this is kinda capping that off too. Well, most of it anyway. Just feels like an absolute end to such a long journey.
@@ten4c10us_ace hell yeah man. Do it. Or maybe start a memoir? I might write one for my daughter one day. Something so she can know a little bit more about me.
I always notice something.. the hate comments about destiny (or for any other stuff) is always on replies.. these haters dont have the Guts to comment themselves, and they love to rain on others parade, ruin others joy and emotion.. so they hide behind reply... I am pretty sure haters are gonna reply to this comment as well, lol.. An advice to everyone, whenever you see replies like this, ignore.. what haters crave most is attention.. dont give them that.
Excellent and some touching moments. Very rewarding for long time players engagement for those just hopping in. So glad that it launch without the act being part of it great move.
I love nimbus and I loved seeing them at the end, I don’t care what anyone says. The final shape was the perfect ending, I cried, I reflected on the past ten years and can’t believe how much has changed, Not just destiny but myself too. So happy bungie took the extra time to make this the best it could be. I finally feel like I can stop playing and enjoy other games. For me the saga is over and I just don’t have to worry about god rolls anymore, this was the main reason why we were getting stronger and stronger, to fight the witness and the win. I hope they make a d3 where we play as a new guardian, a fresh start where our past guardian can either retire or be a mentor. I entered my 20s with d1 and now I am 30 finishing this story. I would love my 30s to mark a new era with a new destiny.
The only thing I can "criticize" is that when I completed the Main Story I got quests to help my allies prepare before killing The Witness. I guess the "proper" way to play it is to do some story missions and then do some Episodes(?)? I was surprised how fast we got rid of The Witness and I'm just left here like 'what now?'. I guess it would have been better to play the story before they unlocked the final confrontation with the witness because now it feels weird to run around the traveler and fix stuff when the big baddie is already dead. I guess it leaves my imagination open to what's next in the universe, but still; felt a bit 'meh' for me.
I thought I was gonna be disappointed if we didn't get at least a cut scene about the collapse and at least a word from the Traveler but I gotta say even though we didn't get any of these im beyond happy with the story, missions, gameplay, destination and weapons, the legendary Campaign was tuff as nails solo and the 12 man mission was amazing
The Subjugators always felt like mini bosses to me... Always a challenge. No matter the difficulty. ^^ That Taken Ogre and the Witness at the end of the Story have been my hardest Solo Bossfights so far. Good thing I jumped into TFS 2 days after it released. ^^''
Still feel absolutely gutted for all the devs that worked on this expansion that wound up getting canned. Great expansion but even that doesn’t solve the problems moving forward. This whole “put out bullshit till our backs are against the wall” formula is tough
Ya bro like where was this before? This is Krak kokain bungie and we need them keep doing this. Even just the new exotics like the sword in the special slot with all kinds of random rolls and even goofy ones. Some big chances were taken here and I love that they stopped playing it so safe and “not overdelivering” I want wild ideas thrown into destiny more often. It started with the rocket sidearms recently and grew into heavy trace rifles that do kinetic dmg and special ammo swords with Wolfpack round perk? More please And not to mention how many grown men have been in tears from the end of the this campaign. Not me of course it was my friends….
I’d still give a nod to Forsaken as best ever because it dug D2 out of an early grave but TFS was excellent and a satisfying conclusion to the Light v dark . I’m sorry , call me an a hole if you want ,This should be what we all EXPECT each time we have to pay 60-100 for an expansion not a Forsaken followed by a Shadowkeep or a Witch Queen followed by a Lightfall. I feel like Bungo did for once what it’s supposed to do all along .
While The final shape content was good it brought barely any core content. 0 pvp maps and 1 strikes, 6 exotics, reskin guns for trials and nightfalls. Ridiculous
I wish they'd kept Cayde dead. They brought him back, had him mope around about how he missed being dead then killed him again. They even basically had the man face the camera a say "yall got to move on". If that wasn't Bungie telling his fans to shut up I'm the Queen of Mars. Everything else was great. Im glad they back tracked on the Traveler being untrustworthy. I hated that crap. Let Sky Mama be Sky Mama.
I did the campaign on legendary and it took me about 10 hours to complete because there were two boss fights I struggled on. The 12 player mission is matchmade
I'm gonna make this clear for anyone new to final shape coz the video didn't outright say it, while it's not a standard patrol, after the final mission you can fully free roam it, just letting everyone know coz i myself feared that but rest assure you'll be able to go wherever you want in the pale heart and it's actually a really fun place to explore
Tyson Green is one of the few left from the Golden Generation at Bungie. I think why The Final Shape was so well received was because he was co director. Never Forget.
This and beyond light are the only dlc’s I have bought for destiny 2, this one was great in my opinion, brought me back to the good old days of destiny, and I loved the final mission (soundtrack was killer)
For me, the story was an 8/10. I had to knock some points off because it fell into the same narrative style seasons did in the middle. Just stand silently watching other characters talk.
I loved the campaign but was really looking forward to the Gardner/Winnower reveal, which they HEAVILY teased through character dialogue…. I can’t say I wasn’t a bit let down.
It makes me wonder why they weren’t writing the characters this way since the beginning? This is genuinely the first time I’ve ever cared about the characters and I actually felt like they were real instead of them just standing there spewing lore.
If a god speaks, its words become an edict. The Traveller abandoned the Eliksni because they chose to worship it, but that's not what the Traveler wants with its chosen. The Traveler values free will. The Witness saw that as a doctrine of chaos, but there's no doubt, within chaos is free will. Nobody choses our fate but us and that's both why the Traveler stays silent and why it stayed with humanity.
Final Shape is definitely the best. If you can make tears come outta me, you're automatically that damn good. No competition at that point. Dont care if Witch Queen had an interesting flow to its story with a twist. Or that Taken King was a huge overhaul to destiny. None of those got emotion out of me. Beat the campaign, beat the boss, be done. Final Shape was more than just that. Final Shape made me think about life and death and what might actually happen after we die. Is there a place after this? What if all of us are connected in the grand scheme of the universe and this mortal existence is just a temporary experience? Does consciousness exist after our physical body dies? And the Traveler is like God. Gives life but does nothing else. Doesnt intervene, doesnt do anything. Everything happens as its meant to happen. Whereas the Witness is like the devil. Lying and deceiving, manipulating your mind to join it, all while trying to become god itself. Thinking it has the right to shape existence into what it thinks existence should be. Best campaign. Best story. Best gameplay. Best writing. Best visuals. Best ending to a boss. Its not even close compared to every other expansion.
We at least have come to understand why the Traveller doesn't speak to us. It's the antithesis of the Witness, who wanted to impart purpose on the entire universe by force. The Traveller chooses not to communicate since it wants lightbearers to make their own purpose. Speaking would mean imparting its will on its subjects. As Cayde put it, no one makes his fate but him.
Prismatic is OP, only reason why I say this is they had to nerf all subclasses just to keep prismatic in control. Prismatic is very dominate, you really feel little to no need to run any subclass with it's introduction which to me at least means the other subclasses should have been buffed slightly to be competitive not nerfed. Nerfing the subclasses feels counter productive to me, really only pushing folks more into prismatic, which I honesty don't enjoy playing maybe because it's still new but I do not enjoy it, I did not enjoy Stasis, I did not enjoy Strand (at launch) but it did grow on me. It really feels like every other subclass I would prefer playing was nerfed because Bungie wants us to play with shiny new thing ...
My only problem is they brought Cayde back only to make the ending more impactful. They did it perfectly. But now we’re stuck with the same characters they haven’t managed to make the majority of people care about since Forsaken. It was great he got to be there at the end like we wanted. But the ending wouldn’t have hit as hard if they didn’t kill him AGAIN. They reskinned the death of our favorite character….
I think so. We all have darkness and light within us, the line is very thin, but we choose to be good. The travel doesn’t care to be worshipped, he cherishes free will end enjoyment of pure existence. The Darkness, the sick turn of the Witness (previously gifted race) to stop the circle of life and death, panta rhei, to impose stillness and nothingness is defeated by free will and by unified enemy races.
Ngl out of the whole DLC Cyst missions/Khvostov quest were the only annoying part cause they dragged for too long but everything else gave me an enjoyment for the game that i havent had since Beyond Light.
I was very surprised by how good this actually was. Bungie hasn't exactly had the greatest track record, so I was expecting the story to be just okay. But it was really damn good, (with the exception of them making Zavala into a pouty little crybaby)
Veil containment from lightfall told you what the veil is the pale heart is just the name of the travalers heart, and the vex were explained forever ago
Until they later screw consumers over like they have before with this game. They did great but they’re not your friend and can easily screw us all over like they have before
Played since destiny one but gave up on this franchise. This game is a good example of too many hands in the kitchen making creative decisions. I follow the lore still because I played for 6.5 years and I really loved the story but it became way overpriced and required a full time jobs worth of time to play it. I can’t commit to a game like this. A shame
When the witness said I don't understand l, was that saying that it was one of those ancient persons who initiated it all? Maybe absorbed it's whole species against their will
Destiny 3 would have been uniting the Cabal, Fallen and Hive on three different planets then going to Neptune for Lightfall and finally the Final Shape
What happened to game devs working on bugs and crashes BEFORE release? I understand this game doesn't run on the same engine as the original Halo, but Halo never crashed every 5 minutes! The DLC is great when I can actually play it.
Bungie prolly had to gut their QA department so they prolly don't have the in-house testing they used to have. But Destiny has always been buggy at launch. I remember the game crashing when Titans would do the slam super on the D1 Beta in pvp matches lol
lightfall felt more like a part of final shape cut off spliced onto this veil thingy to be sold separately to earn more $$$ i find it miracilois tht they havent tried to resello the old vaulted xpansions yet :) edit: ikora as tsundere as usual it's obvious that she likes cayde pretty sure she'd drag him infront of a priest in a wedding ceremony if she could and dared :)
loved the final 12 man mission- made sense for it not to be in the raid- but overall tye witness needed a stronger mechanic he just felt like well, a dated mmo Boss.
Bro that’s the point of the raid lol. For people that are trash at the game (99% of the population), they didn’t get the “full experience” of wounding the witness throughout the raid and then us finishing it in the final mission. Most people that play destiny did the raid and then did the mission.
Well first and foremost if you don’t have all of the dlc they released a pack that has all of the previous expansions. So I would recommend first doing all of the missions within the “timeline” tab so that you’re up to date with everything story wise then do the old campaigns and only THEN should you go into the final shape.
@@kdburner7356 nah don’t feel overwhelmed it’s not that bad. Again as long as you just play the content in order you should be fine. And as for what you should “do” after those main campaigns? Definitely look at your arsenal and reflect on what you could improve on (DPS, Ad clear, build crafting, etc) then go after the specific weapons that you want. Enjoy!
dude i couldnt play the story till like Thursday bc everytime i tried to load into the pale heart i would get kicked back to orbit with a currant error code? there def was some problems with people playing the story man
I may get some hate for this but I am a bit annoyed with the ending like how can people call this an “ending” to the LIGHT AND DARK SAGA and almost nothing ground breaking about the traveler/ gardener or widower or whatever was reveled maybe I missed some really lore heavy stuff but if didn’t and this is it I am really disappointed story Wise with the finale shape
I have 2 words to say what I think about the final shape absolute Nightmare basically it’s nothing but a nightmare and I don’t even find it fun only playing it now for the new subclass unlockles
The Vex are making moves on Nessus. Fikrul is likely going to try and become the new leader of the Scorn. Xivu is probably going to try and scoop up the Taken. While Savathun looked like she was claiming Crota's sword. There's a big power vacuum now and everyone is making BIG swings!
@@Greenfourthnot to mention that without the Witness, a power vacuum exists for the greater universe AND the Witness’s forces. Wouldn’t surprise me if (hopefully) at weekly reset we get some more quests related to taking out more commanders that were under the Witness.
Imagine the final raid having 1 boss fight and a taken captain strike boss...oh wait lol There are far too many people in the community looking at this expansion with some serious beer goggles..
The stasis subjugators are bitches to push around but the strand ones are wayyyy more mobile amd spoopy Tormentors are still spookier tho Legend difficukty was still a challenge solo but not challenging enough to force me to sit behind a rock and shoot for 20 minutes so thats a plus And prismatic is cool as hell
