2.5 years of work resulted in something cooler than I even thought possible. We proudly present to you the worlds first and only VW Bug using a Toyota MR2 chassis with a Honda K20 engine swap.
WHOA! Yota chassis, Honda Engine IN THE BACK, and 2 halves of a VW body with metal down the middle. The confidence and lunacy it takes to see something like this through to the end is super impressive. Props.
Ive kept up 90% along the way... i forgot how much actually went into the jobe. I knew it had been some time but completely forgot about all the cutting and welding. Thanks for this one great reminder of what it took. Congratulations Preston youve definitely earned it. And your "team" as well. (Edit) Personally I think she came out freaking beautiful man!! Would love to see it in person going down a track one day.
Honestly I have this taste in my mouth for the German bug it has ran in my family since the 60s as my Grandmother owned both the super B and a regular beetle.
Lol, it reminds me of a high school auto shop class project that went the other way when the teacher was out fir being sick for 6 months!!! But I love it thou!!!
I didn't realize how early in the project I actually started! Dude, you've done amazing things with this car. I'd admire your willingness to just hack into stuff and go at it! As far as making the car faster, as long as the motor is safe with the tune it has, learn to drive it before adding more power. Your future self, teammates, family and friends will all be happy you did.
Great little recap but for people that wasn't here along the have not ideal the real challenge this was along the way. Day job, work in your shop ,and working on the Jeep and this. Your recap makes it look some what easy but it was far from that! You determination and times you may have felt like giving in but you never did. Looks great and teaches that if you just keep at something no matter how long it takes can and will be a wonderful feeling. Yes things are going to go wrong and break but that's racing, hell that's live. I am loving seeing this but I'm sure not as much as you are racing it.... Great job man👏👏👍🏻
You're opening commentary is hysterical, lol! Honestly, I like these build videos without a voice over & prefer music so this got a big thumbs up from me! 👍🏼
I know there's guys around that have been putting the Porsche engine supposedly it's a pretty easy swap but it's kind of common so to take an MR2 which Toyota's are amazing cars and two widen your body and all that is amazing great job buddy.
Purists may be mad but I'm definitely not. Proud of you for coming so far with this - def looking forward to seeing it in person one day around CO! Be well
Out of all the things you have done, this is one of them, really enjoyed the build and can't wait to see how quick it ends up being, love the channel and keep it up mate 👌
Been watching the build all the way through. Cool to watch the progression on every episode. Keep it up Preston, definitely a rad build! Oh yeah...keep up the shenanigans lol
Awesome. Don't about your project taking 2.5+ years, the guys at Bad Obsession Motorsport (Project Binky) took 8+ years to stuff all the mechanical & engine bits from a Toyota Celica GT4 into a Mini. Love to see you chop a land Rover 110 in half (front to back) and widen it be Humvee size. All the best for the future. A well earned 👍👍👍👍👍
Been here since the beginning. It really turned out awesome. I love the death cart with just the nose but the whole thing? Mind blowing. P.S. whatever happened to Team Olympus?
I love the vuild lads only thing thats missing for me are the beetles iconic arches i think it would set it off on the aesthetics. Apart from that nice job👍🏴
I really liked the video. I wasn’t really that upset you cut up 2 perfectly good bugs and parts…! But what I’m really surprised at, is there wasn’t nearly enough blood shed in this video. Knowing how much love and energy, I thought for sure there be more blood than that🤣🤣 🙏🏻❤️💪🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏻
Its been fun watching this build come along, holy shite it's been that long already? I been trying to support the channel but after having been shot multiple times and unable to work, I no longer have a way to order stuff or sub to patreon. But when I get back to work, I'll be all over it! Thanks for the great content!!
Any time Preston your good bloke and I enjoy watching you moving forward each vid so keep it up, hopefully one day we will b aloud to travel again and I might b able to come ova from aus
Great video!!👍 All condensed into 11 minutes, it looks so easy and almost like you knew what you were doing the whole time😜 So proud of you and following your idea. Now the real question...how many grinder discs were sacrificed in the build?
I had been watching that build not from very start but let's say just when u started cutting it into half, im proud of you brother and its gonna be a great race car, that u built every inch of, yourself! Waiting on the Jevette build and what is gonna come out like as a drag racer too! Btw bug does need more power, (perhaps bigger turbo) and you sir need drag racing lessons to start kickin azz and make good times! Keep up the good work, brother
Most important thing said, " it's not your car!" I have had to defend my build in the same way... The other side is, " if they had it available for purchase just like this I would have bought it !"
Very nice build. Looks very nice the betle wilder. I was thinking possible to add an engine compartment trunk with the spoiler of the Porsche 993 with the big air intake on the wings.
Yeah it was pretty good the link your critique give you as I would have liked to see at what point you were in the build like what time a timeline throughout it that's it that's only thing I would have like to seen different
i would honestly try to make it more of a track star than a drag strip car. your platform is a mid/rear with endless hop up parts for handling. fuck the uphill battle at the 1/4 mile. time attack bug maybe, track day bug?.....thats what i would do.
I would really like to see more of the body completed on this car and I like fake patina very nice job and definitely consider bringing in some of like the so cal surfer vibes in the body like the roof rack and cool chrome otherwise well done my man
Yes you made alot of bug owners and bug lovers mad even me I felt like a knife went into me on every cut but that's just cause I have a fear of getting cut by video metal cuts other then that it was cool as hell you paid for it so I wouldn't worry about anyone who talks shit ask them if they have a mr2 bug in there garage yup we thought so ask them how many hydro dip make youtube videos and take cars to the track cause there are many but there are yup you guess it it's a I THOUGHT SO moment keeps them coming your skill is getting better with every day
While it's cool I'd rather have a genuine super bug build. My brother had one that could beat an old school 5.0 liter mustang GT, bottom end mid range or top end didn't matter, he could walk off on them. And the look on their faces was priceless lol.
If it were me i would have made the body as factory looking while it being wider and i would have sealed the engine bay off and added prius air con system and a electric powersteering rack
