So sad. My hoard is hopefully going to be better preserved. A good building costs vastly more than the machinery it protects, but owning equipment demands the building investment or this happens. This man enjoyed his machinery, but apparently left no one to become the new caretaker.

Regarding the rusty drill chuck on the tail stock, I've had really good luck not only cleaning but freeing those up using a Vevor sonic cleaner following one of your de-rusting methods you've shown. Same for rusty lathe chucks. Even better results than Break-free and PB Blaster. I've actually de-rusted an entire SB lathe one piece at a time in the sonic cleaner.

@@lookingbehind6335 That is true but often there are lots of people out their who do feel it worth while and its a shame to allow these things to considerably degrade just for the sake of a cover or selling them promptly when you decide they are not worth repairing. If you are selling them then you must consider they are worth something or why didnt you take them to the scrap dealer.

@@mrpete222 a series restoring that lathe would be nice. See if CRC will sponsor you with enough Evapo-Rust to soak it in. I figure a 55 gallon drum should be more than enough. Lower it right in.

After the build up we need to know what's in the cabinet. The owner thought enough of it to lock it so I'm thinking at least decent. The Corvair motor went surprisingly cheap. Just how many drill presses did that shop have? I saw 4 or 5. And if I heard right, some of them would be worth buying just for the motors. As for what I'd have bought, I'm sure that at least one of the tool boxes would have gone home with me. And, I would NOT have left the cardex. those are great for taps, dies and small slitting saws.

Yes, I have never seen that many drill process and some of them are really nice. I wanted to buy one, but they are terribly hard to move.

Great auction video! I have an Atlas 618 I'm fixing up right now, need to make a new lead screw. I might have given $150 for that lathe without the cabinet, though the locked cabinet is intriguing. My preference there would've been the EMCO lathe/mill. Do you know what it sold for? The Morgan vise is really cool and I believe someone is still making Morgan bench vises here in the USA. Thanks Mr. Pete!!

Dismantle that whole lathe n soak it for a week to start out with. Most of all that machinery must have been outside for a month. Who allows bedways n lead screws to get that rusty. Wow. Lot of good finds.

If the QC gearbox on the other Atlas would fit a TH54 I would definitely be in the bidding. You scored on the Cardex. Evaporust is your friend.

Ha ha! Whatever price I could have afforded would be overwhelmed by the shipping cost to Australia. Lovely American steel though. Looking forward to the restoration.

Too bad all these tools have so much rust! Given my budget, and the amount of rust on the lathe, I would have only paid $100.00. I have had good luck with Evapo-rust. Soak the smaller parts for a day or two. The larger areas you can lay several layers of paper towels on the rusty surface and soak the towels with Epapo-rust. It works like magic! You might come out OK once you get the cabinet open! Cliff

Wow! Love this video, wish similar auctions would occur near me. What treasures. I would have kept the cardex cabinet you left behind for storing small items. Don't drill open the cabinet, practice your lock-picking skills! I didn't find the video long enough, I kept pausing it to better survey the offerings. Wish I could have seen and heard all the lot going prices - give me a better idea of the worth of used equipment. I have been after a lathe for years now, but offerings near me are non-existent - I'll probably end up purchasing one of those 8" Chinese mini-lathes. Oh well!

Thanks for taking us along. Seeing all of that neglected machinery was heartbreaking, though. I would have spent up to 350 for the lathe But only due to my lack of confidence in evaluating a neglected machine and my ability to resurrect it. With a 400 pound cabinet of unknown booty, i think your bid was actually pretty fair.

What a waist of old equipment, can't wait to see you pick the lock and as for the lathe, wish I had the old Kazoo arbor press, I should unload some of my 7 old Atlas 10" lathes, and accessory's for then, they are 100% better than the one you bought. LOL Enjoyed the trip thru la la land, the guy in the white shorts sure could use a washing machine. Keep more videos like this coming. 👍👍👍👍
