@@SuperchargedLlama That colour really suits the car and you've done an amazing job to bring back the depth of it.

Nice work on the Audi , I've recently used Turtlewax One & Done on a metallic black car and can recommend this for a good one step.

I've seen and heard good things about one and done; I want to try that and Koch's product too for comparisons sake. I've started using Scholls purple spider pads now in conjunction with the polish and they have given fabulous results.

Great work, with stunning results. Need to persevere with scholl s20 on my own A5

Definitely worth the perseverance I'd say. In my video next week I'm doing my friends car with him and I explain how many passes I'm doing and with what pressure, that maybe of use. I also changed pads to the Scholl Purple Spider and was very impressed.
@Cuffy1981
@Cuffy1981 3 года назад
@@SuperchargedLlama Be interesting in seeing that. Might have been my technique or my cheap DA polisher but I the spider pad just didn't cut it - had to use a microfiber pad which needed further refining afterwards, I don't have much time so I'm working panel by panel.
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 3 года назад
@@Cuffy1981 it could be a combination of all those things, you're absolutely right. What polisher are you using? And how many passes? I find I do one pass to spread, 4 passes at speed 3 or 4 and medium pressure then two passes at 3 or 4 with just the weight of the machine/guiding hand if it's vertical before bring it back down to speed 1 for a pass and stopping.
@Cuffy1981
@Cuffy1981 3 года назад
@@SuperchargedLlama it's a duren da machine from Slims. 3-4 passes the same as you but looking at your rs6 vid like you I may have been working too large an area.

@SuperchargedLlama 3 года назад
@@Cuffy1981 oh that's the other thing I say in the upcoming video which I forgot to mention in my previous reply. 18" square...ish. Which is about 3-4 pad widths for 5.5" pads, and I say that because I know the maths doesn't add up, but you never really get them lined up completely true and will have some overlap, so about 3-4 rough pad widths as you're dabbing it down on the panel before turning the machine on.

What a transformation- well worth all that work! When continuing on the second day, did you have to wash the car again before any polishing?
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 2 года назад
Thank you! I did give a wash the following morning, yes. In that instance I foamed it quickly neith just shampoo in the lance, rinsed and gave it a very quick 2 bucket wash, then rinsed down with DI water and dried. I now have a 3x4.5m gazebo so I wouldn't have the issue (as much, this A6 is probably too long for it, but I could stake out one of the end walls to give me the space needed. I wouldn't need to wash it in the morning then and I also wouldn't get any contamination throughout the day.

The difference is night and day mate, fantastic job! Must have been a really long time since it had a proper deep clean...maybe never?! Do you prefer clay bar over mitt then? Or would you say they both have their place?
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 3 года назад
Now this is a brilliant question to ask and has a slightly wordy answer. The car in this video was definitely washed frequently but also had over 120k miles on the clock and had never been decon'd in it's life. If it had been then this wouldn't have taken as long as it did, especially with the tar. You probably want to perform a chemical Decon every 6-12 months, and use something like Carpro Reset, Gyeon Restart or Garage Therapy Decon Wash as your shampoo every 3rd or 4th wash (assuming you're washing every couple do weeks) to really clean the paint and lift off as much crud as possible. If you do that then you make it last as long as possible before you need to perform a mechanical Decon (which is claying). I like the G3 mitt and I like the soft bar from Bilt Hamber. I think the mitt is faster but I always find that is marrs the paint more than a well lubricated clay bar.....but that could be moot as you're so very likely going to need to polish after a mechanical Decon that you only really do it when you're going to polish the car anyway. The only acception to the rule is matte paint when you wouldn't use a clay bar and can't polish.

Could you share on your process on cleaning the pads after you're done please ?
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 3 года назад
Absolutely. After each set I use a tooth brush on the pad face, having it on speed three and very light pressure. I move it from the centre outwards and I tend to do this 2 or 3 times. At the end of the day I take the pad off the machine and set it in a bowl of warm water, massage fairy liquid (other brands are available 😆) in to it's face for 30 seconds to a minute, squeeze and rinse it about in the hot water and inspect the face of the pad. If it looks good I'll then squeeze and rinse under free flowing tap water until there doesn't seem to be any soap coming out of it (if it's still dirty I'll do the fairy liquid step again before moving on to the rinsing). Finally I put the pad back on the machine, dial that up to full power and turn it on for 5 or so seconds, spinning out the water trapped inside and drying it pretty well. You could use it again at this point if you wanted to, or if you were done for the day you could leave it out to dry overnight.

when applying CanCoat on dark paint - have you been seeing some product on the paint or it's just evaporating so quick you just have to trust the process?
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 3 года назад
A bit of both. It was tough going in the direct sun, I've since acquired a gazebo to provide shade when working outside. You can't really see it when you've applied it right, but you can see high spots.
