DETAIL LINES WITH TEXT EMBEDDED: Annotation to show fire-ratings

I have been asked twice recently for line types in Revit that have a piece of text in the middle to identify the fire-rating... so here is a Revit Tip video showing the step-by-step process of making a Detail Family for Fire/Life Safety Plans! There are several ways to do this, but this method is by far the simplest method.

This looks great. In our office we have started to use filters in a fire plan view template to denote any rated walls. Its working great.. However, sometimes it would be nice if the text could be included as well..

There are several ways to represent Fire Ratings. I find that each firm tries a few different ways and then settles on one they like.

That is really helpful / useful. Just a comment about the line pattern creation. I wanted to change this pattern after I created it in the project. So I went back in to edit the family and went to Manage_Additional Settings_Line Patterns. However after I changed the Type and Value in the Line Pattern Properties dialog box and saved all - It showed the revised Line type in the Ref. Level editor. But when Load into Project, it did not show the change. It remained as it previously.

It's a FEATURE of Revit to keep the settings in the PROJECT if a linetype or material or anything is introduced (or reintroduced). So the first time you added the linetype to the project, it was fine. But when you edited it.. and then reloaded it... it didn't update. That's Revit protecting your project. You will need to NOW edit the linetype IN THE PROJECT. You can't edit the family and have it update any longer. :/ You will see this on other things like materials... so keep your eyes open! :)

@@miketaylor8211 Hello Mike. Thanks for responding to my comments I did find the solution as you said it was Project based. While in the model, I went to Manage_Object Styles_Model Objects tab_Detail Items (Category)_Smoke Partition_Line Pattern. Pressed the drop-down arrow and there were all of the variations of Line Patterns that I had created. Tried with similar results through Visibility Graphics. Appreciated your help. And I have to say that I love the cheerful way you present. It's very engaging. All the best for the Christmas break. Hope it all goes well for you and yours.
