The land of the Aussies. Although today Australia is just one big country, sometimes it is considered a whole continent, which makes sense if you think of how complex and diverse its Aboriginal population was.
Aboriginal Culture in Australia is the longest still surviving culture on the planet, and it is currently fighting for survival, unfortunately.
In Colonial times, Australia was used as a penal colony where convicts were sent to, there were many conflicts with the Aboriginals. Settlers founded cities by the coast and still, nowadays, there aren't many people in its harsh and hot interior.
In modern times, there have been many attempts of 'Reconciliation' with the Native population, as well as a heavy increase in its Immigrant population, making Australia a very diverse and multi-Cultural country, especially in the Big Cities.
This video took me a while to make, it required a lot of research, I just included the most important sources in the final credits, but researching for it was hard since Aboriginals didn't have written history and much of its colonial history was one-sided and sometimes no accurate. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see that I forgot to include.
For more detail on each of the pre-colonial tribes, I suggest you check this website out aiatsis.gov.au...

It's sad for the Indigenous people of Australia, they remained on their land quietly for 50,000 years, until 1770 and 1788 when they sank.

I love this video - it really conveys how long 80,000 years really is compared to the past 200 or so, as well as the bittersweet context of "Bound for Botany Bay". That said, I have some personal issues with our current national anthem, (it's basically a patriotic way of saying "nothing is wrong, everything is fine, let us rejoice in our freedom!") and I would have preferred it if 'We Are Australian' was used instead, but that's more my thing and not really a problem with the video itself. I do have one note however - I would have said Aboriginal "cultures" (plural) instead of "culture" (singular), because Indigenous Australians are frequently all umbrellaed as 'all the same' which ignores the vast complexity and diversity of Aboriginal Australia.

Excellent video, it really helps me a LOT with the work that I'm currently writing (yes, it includes Australia). Just a small note: Van Diemen's Land was renamed to Tasmania in 1856 and I think you forgot to change it.

This so interesting to see the human expansion of this continent, but it’s also very sad. Let’s hope the future is more positive for every Australian. ❤

Overstated the Cook Discoveries. From the east coast they would have seen only the dividing range in the background. This would appear to these 18th century seamen as similar as the approach from the east of New Zealand. The Blue Mountains where not traversed until 1812 by Blaxland and co. An the Australian continent not established until Mathew Flinders sailed up Spencer Gulf in present day South Australia. Commercial activity, whale and seal fishery were in progress of southern coast as early as 1792. Salt was mine on Kangaroo Islands as early as 1808.

A great video if you believe the only things that ever happened in the country since British colonisation were riots and massacres! Instead of taking a completely biased and negative view of our history, emphasising rubbish like “white privilege”, you should pause to consider the “Australian privilege” everyone who lives here has. Name one country in the world that has anything like the freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and tolerance that Australia has today. Has the journey been perfect, of course not when judged by our comfortable, privileged standards. But what we’ve created is something we should be proud of - not continually apologising for! Why don’t you have a crack at making a video that focuses on the many positive and brilliant things there are about our country, including the many successes achieved by aboriginals with the support of all Australians.

This is ridiculous, you realise that the European settlers literally committed genocides of Australia's indigenous people, murdered, beat them, and enslaved them? Once that stopped, they started stealing their children and took their rights to movement, to financial independence, to seek healthcare and to take care of their own children? You would be exempt from this ONLY IF you applied for a Certificate of Exemption if you met the rigid requirements for the government to consider you white enough culturally speaking. You had to surrender your ties to your FAMILY, CULTURE and LAND. It was a genocide. Please do your research into our history as a nation before you make comments like this. You wouldn't say that "maybe the holocaust wasn't that bad because more people were killed by the Great Chinese Famine".
