The birds beak, or modified bridle joint, is a little seen today, traditional bit of luthier craftsmanship. The joint is beautiful and functional, but it can be daunting on first glance. It is however a relatively simple and rewarding joinery project. In this video I talk about different neck joints and how the birds beak stands out, a bit about my own design for my latest build, detail the layout for hand cutting and fitting the joint, and then hand cut and fit the joint. At the end of this description you will find an index for the video so you can find just the part you want, cuz today's video is a long one. Apologies if I am covering things which seems all too obvious, but I wanted to make it useful for everyone, especially people just starting out in both woodworking and working with hand tools.
