It depends on what metal your putter is made of. Stainless steel and aluminum won't rust (in most cases) but carbon steel will start to rust almost immediately, unless properly oiled

So you want to be able to pick up one of these sanding wheels at home Depot or Lowe's, they are 3M deburring wheels, I'd have to look up the exact specs because I don't remember that off the top of my head, but they sell them on eBay for 60 to $70

I'm not currently accepting additional work, but I could definitely let you know when I am. What kind of putter were you looking to have restored.

The only way to repair the face properly is by re-milling the face. I don't own a milling machine so I am currently unable to show that stage of the process

So I haven't done irons, because powder coat doesn't hold up well on hard impacts, but I'll have a bunch of videos coming out soon covering some of the new, stronger options available for blacking out putters and irons

Do you by chance know how to do irons? I did a set with a 6 inch deburring wheel and then a buffing wheel but I think there has to be a better way

@@codyparker8187 irons are a bit tougher than putters, especially cast irons. The grinding process is similar, but requires quite a bit more work. A sand blaster is needed if you want to give the irons a "like new" or original finish. You also have to be careful not to remove to much material from the sole of the irons or you will change the bounce. The other challenge when doing irons is the face... It is nearly impossible to keep the face of the club perfectly flat when using a grinding wheel. When it come to irons I normally recommend either replacing them or sending the back to the manufacturer to be professionally restored. All that being said, it is possible to restore irons back to good or very good condition it you have the right tools and pay close attention to detail

You are super helpful. So sand blasting chrome blades would give it a raw unchrome finish?

@@codyparker8187 it would definitely take away the shine of the chrome, but unless you are using an extremely heavy grit it wouldn't remove the chrome plating

I am interested on that stone wheel grit # also...I have begun restoring many of my family and friends’ old golf clubs. I have a bench grinder w a coarse and medium stone wheels on it. I bought a few thrift store $1-2 irons and putters, verrrry beat up, gouged, nicked up.... ...just to test my skills on my bench grinder....ouch!!....Even w the greatest care and even strokes of the club on the medium grinding wheel...I found the bench grinder is wayyyyyyy too aggressive unintended removing too much metal.....especially on narrow edges where the grinding wheel is hard to navigate the club edges. I found this caused a ton of corrections to straighten the edges after the grinder. My son , who is an avid golfer warns me a putter’s metal weight is crucial to the integrity and feel of any putter, I.e. removing putter club metal on a grinding wheel....changes the weight to throw off the feel....He has tried a few test refinished putters and was not happy w loss of the weight on putter strokes. With that said, if....we can determine the correct grit on these grinding wheels, I would try again...hopefully a much finer grit wheel?

I'm sorry I'm not 100% sure which paint you're talking about in this video. I did do a video where I covered exactly what kind of paint fill I use on my putters so if you check that out maybe it'll answer your question. If not, could you please give me a little bit more detail about what paint you're talking about? Are you talking about the putter head itself the matte black? Because that's not actually paint that's powder coat

@@justdan5735 because i tried to paint with tayami spray paint, after painting it black i smeared the words on the putter face in yellow. but when i erase it, both the black and the yellow color fade away. it cannot retain the black color. Can you tell me the paint process to keep the black paint on the putter face as long and beautiful as scoty can. so that when I color the text, I no longer have to worry about the black fading. If possible, I would like you to tell me the name of the paint in detail and how much to mix and what paint sprayer to use. I sincerely thank you very much.

and at 9 minutes 13 seconds in the video, can you tell me what kind of black you paint the putter face. What are its ingredients and how to make it? and what machine (eg paint sprayer) can be used to paint the putter face black like that. because I'm looking to paint my putter face black. @@hanggolfanpcua595 Okay, I think I understand what you're saying. I think yhe issue you are having is you're using paint instead of powder coating. Sadly painting a putter wont work... even if you do everything right the paint will flake, chip or peal. Powder coating is a totally different process and requires specific tools. @@justdan5735 May I ask you. after black powder coating. then I want to paint the letters on the putter face. then how. I painted with nail polish, and removed excess polish with nail polish remover. but I'm concerned it will strip the black paint on the clubface because it's a cleaning agent. Can you make a video to teach me more. because I'm looking for a way to paint the text in gold on the black background of the putter face. I sincerely thank you very much.

Most putters take 30 minutes to one hour of grinding. You'd be surprised how much material the wheel takes off

@@justdan5735 Nice. I've been looking at these wheels for awhile now and am torn because of how expensive they are. They last awhile?

@@shmirginhymer1867 I put about 7 to 15 putters through these wheels every week and a single wheel last me about 6 to 10 months. They are expensive, but in my opinion they're totally worth the money and pay for themselves over and over again before I replace them
