Great video! I have exactly the same Pantograph problem with my EP5, and more... ( I found your video as a result of my EP5 Pantograph problem search. Two pantograph problems I have; 1) The Pantograph at the front of the EP5 will only raise halfway. 2) Function F14, has no pantograph control on either Pantograph. (F13 does work for it's pantograph, though). This is aggravating.
Thank you for watching. There’s a whole ‘nuther video I just put out on the pantograph issue… fun times. I hope yours get resolved as it at least seems partially mechanical, although you might be able to adjust the cycle of the servo motor to take care of the issue. Does the rear pantograph raise on F8?
@@DoctorHobby Thanks a lot for the quick feedback! Yes; The F8 initialization, results with the full elevation of the other pantograph. Thanks for mentioning the servo alignment as a possibility. (By the way; The malfunctioning pantograph will seemingly retract fully, but never elevates beyond halfway it's expected height). The F14 function, is not working for this pantograph whatsoever. I later watched your subsequent video on the pantograph, that I found very informative too. I'll try to look into the servo alignment of elevating the pantograph as well. (I need to be extremely careful, as I don't want to risk making the pantograph issue worse). Your videos are great! ( The Gregory Peck outtake of the EP5, (going down Park Ave, to GCT?), Was great. Analyzing the Rapido decoder was very informative, as well. Great Work. Thanks again.

The parts in the bag are the 3rd rail pick-up shoes. Trains running into Grand Central were still powered by electricity but the power is delivered through a 3rd rail rather than overhead wires.
@@DoctorHobby Yeah I would arrive at New Haven from Boston and they took off the FL9's and once we were under way again you there was like a jolt and pickup was quick...they were very strong....

I just bought this locomotive and have some issues with the rear pantograph. It won’t come up on its own I have to use my hand constantly. I also have the issue of the front axle derailing on grades. Lastly I was very disappointed that at this price point it was not made out of die cast metal. This locomotive has a lot of pros with great sound and detail but it’s just not for me I plan on returning it.
I think this is a really good job. I'm starting to hear from people regarding non- or partially-functioning pantographs. I know these are difficult mechanisms to get right on a mass scale, but, indeed, Rapido needs to get them right! I think you're right about these needing to be diecast as they're a tad light as they are. Also my front axle would derail regularly going in one direction, but not the other. I commend you for returning a product that neither works nor works for you--it's tempting to hold on some times. Thank you for writing and best wishes!
