If you use rockwool under a concrete slab, you’ll inevitably get water under there, even with a barrier. Isn’t that going to fill the air interstices with water and destroy the insulating ability?
Thanks for the question, here’s a note from Travis: “Our air control layer is actually at the exterior of our assembly where we utilized ZIP System sheathing and tapes at the seams of our ZIP R-6 panels. The continuous air control layer at the exterior simplifies transitions between floors where we can now add additional interior insulation at the wall cavities and rim joists between floors without needing to address air control from inside.
I've watched at least 20 videos over the last year or two about mineral wool, and this is the first time I've heard any hint that there could be a smell. I suspect something else smells in the homes in those cases and it's being incorrectly attributed to the insulation. Or maybe the installers left the mineral wool to get exposed to something that then got on it and smells.
I think it's brand dependent. Some add formaldehyde. Rockwool brand doesn't. Owen's corning does and it absolutely smells and did for a few months after I installed it.
