Few corrections/clarifications... First, on the thestral at the end...you DO have the option of purchasing the Dark Arts Pack (including the thestral) even if you order the standard version of the game. This will be available to players as a way to "upgrade" the standard version. The point still stands that you will not unlock the thestral during the game though. Also...yes, I mispronounced "repercussion" and I always mispronounce that word. I have no idea why, lol. Also, the singular of inferi is inferius. I knew that too, but for some reason never say it correctly 😅 Please forgive me, all.

Now this is a little far fetched but what if the grounds keeper is the dark wizard. Because I was thinking about it too, how would the developers deal with something like explosion? I think it would be a fun plot twist and would also save you from the consequences of casting unforgivable spells.

The circular symbol on the cover of the book is a Nordic symbol called an aegishjalhmur, also called a Helm of Awe/Helm of Terror. Iirc, it is a symbol of protection and victory in battle.

I haven’t been this excited about a game ever! Also, I think that’s Naty’s voice we hear saying “You’ve made your choice”. It makes me think that we may lose our friendship with her if we go down a certain path.

In the case of this trailer, I believe we, and Sebastian, bring forth the inferi (perhaps unintentionally). I believe that's why the dad shouts, "What have the two of you done?!" Also, that he says "two" kinda sounds like that other Slytherin might not have made it, if that's the same mission.

PC: " it was you!, your the one that grassed me in....and for what? using dark magic?" * movement in the background * Enemy: "Yes and no. Do not be naive anybody that thinks that using dark magic is evil is incredibly ignorant and has no concept as to what it can be truly used for. The triangle is almost certainly a Triangle of Evocation/Triangle of Goetia, associated with summoning and controling demons, ghosts, etc. So, in this case, inferi. It might be that Sebastian and the character create them, but something goes wrong. Or that it is indeed Rookwood doing it. I'd also like to believe Rookwood is working for an even darker magician that we can potentially aid during quests. Oh one can dream.. so many potential opportunities with the dark path.

The guy says he will report you to the headmaster if you use dark magic. And then HE catches you. It shows AZKABAN (Azkaban) in the scene with the dementors. So maybe you are sent to Azkaban and you escape.

@@penguinhacker No, I can't use dark magic! That's not what I signed up for at all from the beginning! Hufflepuff can't wield the dark arts, they should learn to withstand it at all costs. Whatever choices there are I'm going to refuse dark magic.

What he says at around 12:04. There is a choice to be made at that point. Either you choose to learn crucio and use it on him, have him use it on you, or turn back (we see an image where these three choices are shown at this point in time. I think it is on twitter). I think if you do not choose to learn crucio at this moment then your character will never learn that spell. This quest shows that certain areas are only accessible if certain spells are casted near them. Which is why we are given those three choices for dialogue since casting crucio will allow them to proceed. This could mean that other areas in the game are closed off from you if they require crucio to be used nearby to open up.

Do the ends (saving a life, stopping evildoers) justify the means (using the Dark Arts)? I suspect this will be a theme. Also, pretty sure this is optional in the sense that it’s Sallow’s recruitment mission (to borrow a term from Mass Effect) and therefore you could complete the game without recruiting him.

I think this is more like Sebastian's "loyalty mission" (if we use ME terms) than recruitment mission. :D So I don't think this is the mission which decides if you can befriend Sebastian or not. But if I've understood correctly you can befriend who you want to and if you don't like someone, you don't have to "recruit" them, thus you can complete the game without them.

With the patronus charm, house sorting, wand customization, clothing customization, classes and dark charms all confirmed… I think the only mechanic missing for the game to be perfect is the WIZARD CHESS!!! I remember loving it in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix game… wonder how awesome the pieces and their respective killing animations would be with this graphics!

Two speculations to make here (great video btw): 1. Like you pinpointed, in order to cast the cruciatous curse succesfully, you have to *mean it*. So, I think that this side quest unlocks only if you have shown dark.. tendencies earlier in the game (meaning, you have already made some "bad" choices). That way, choosing to cast crucio will make sense, because you already had it in you. On the other hand, if you choose not to cast it, maybe shows that there are certain lines you are not willing to cross. 2. The "you made your choice" line I think it's meant for the player and not Sebastian (even though it shows him at that moment in the trailer). I think that some character you've already met, built a relationship of trust and respect with, says this to you. Her disdain and disappointment is a direct consequence of your actions, in case you choose the dark path.

In Harry's time the ministry was convinced that the dementors were under there control, yet if it isn't the ministry who sets them on us here than that means that dementors actually have a history of acting of there own accord and the British wizarding government just conveniently forgot. And while that is an interesting twist to the story, it also makes the fact that the ministry still insists on using them in Harry's time either really funny or really sad.

I think, sense this game clearly takes inspiration from BioWare games. That the third character is another companion, and typical party for going on adventures will comprise of 3 character including the MC. Similar to the mass effect games.

I've seen pretty much all I've wanted answered, except for two things. I want to know how the class system works, is it like bully, do we have to be on time? can we skip class? how many lessons are there, and what are all the subjects? And I also want to know how the year progresses. Is it like a time sensitive thing (please no), or is it tied to quests? for example as we progress through the main story or attend classes, the months and seasons and school year progress. I'm hoping that the day/night cycle is separate from it, so we can have a leisurely time exploring without fearing that our school year will progress too far

6:18 I’ve seen that symbol before. The circle wheel symbol under the skull. I’ll have to Google to look for it but that’s not unique. I’ve seen it before I just can’t remember where -update- I think that’s “The Helm of Awe” here’s what Google says: “Helm of Awe" rune is one of the most recognized magical runes of the old pagan vikings of Iceland. It's function was mainly to keep one safe and protected. So this rune would be etched onto shields and armour to protect one but also more mundane things like doors, chests and such...” There’s 3 differnt forms of the symbol. The symbol on the book looks like Vegviser. Which is used for protection, safety, and guidance usually concerning making one’s way through a storm. When used in this context, on a dark magical book, I believe the purpose would be to either protect the book from people trying to destroy it or protect others from the book itself. Most likely it’s to protect people from the book. As back during the Viking era many Vikings believed in shamans and wizards and one of the most common beliefs that these wizards had was the ability to control the weather. Whenever there was a significantly bad storm it was believed to be caused by dark magic. So I believe this is a schedule to protect the reader from the dark magic contained within the book

In this new trailer that man mentioned the headmaster. I almost thought in this century and year of Hogwarts I thought they didn't have one. My theory is though it might be the charms teacher in the blue robe. Also note bodies outside the entrance. Sebastian and the old guy have different English accents, maybe they are not related. SS is often depicted as being bald, the depiction of the wizard at 5.30 is not. The image on the looks very Norse in origin.

minor note... But if there are dementors... The patronus isn't the only way to combat dementors. Its the only light way to do so, as voldemort showed to have a lot of control over them. So, if light and dark is going to have some focus, that might also be an option? Especially since azkaban likely wont be a focus, so we'll probably only be dealing with a handful or so?

Another symbol that book could be (and that is equally unlike) is that of the Philosophers Stone. The actual symbol of that is a Circle within an square within a triangle within a circle. We don't really see that within the book logo, but it could be related to it. I am only saying this because this makes more sense to me than the Deathly Hallows. People have been trying to make the Philosophers Stone since the times of Ancient Egypt, so this thing is older than the Deathly Hallows by a lot. Again this is just a weak theory, but it is little bit better than the Deathly Hallows.

So I don’t think lacking a morality system means there won’t be limited options or repercussions. Some games that lack a morality system but where decisions limit options down the line or create various endings are actually True Crime, LA Noire and Resident Evil. There’s also the Fallout series which DOES have a morality system, however there are plenty of decision trees that impact the outcome of the game without impacting your morality. You can also use command codes to completely turn off the morality system in those games, but the outcomes still change depending on decision tree choices.

i think this troll might be someone related to Sebastian, after all we are doing his optional quest-line. my take on this is that Sebastian is trying to reverse a curse someone has put on this troll. Do you remember what that professor (care for magical creatures?) said in the state of play reveal? "We've been over this boy, shrivelfigs can't reverse a curse, nothing can. The sooner you accept that reality the better." what do you think guys?

The symbol on the book under the skull isn't a rune, it's a magical stave. Magical staves are an Icelandic magical practice. They are basically sigils.

Aragog never said he was the first spider, but it's more than likely he was the first Acromantula since it's mentioned that Hagrid found him a partner, so he wouldn't get lonely. All the acromantulas that Harry and Ron see are descendants of Aragog and the second acromantula.

I was so sure that we would see clues about the existence of the chamber of secrets, but that it would end there and that it wouldn’t be one of the many hidden places we can find in the game. But the recent trailer has made me unsure. I’m still 60/40 against, but I’m now no longer as confident that the chamber won’t be in the game. I feel like we might be able to find it

If my previous gaming experience serves me, the quest they're focusing so in depth on will be the only one that goes that deep, probably by a long shot. I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but I don't think I've ever seen anything different....

What is everyones thoughts on the time period for this game? For me personally I can't connect as much to the characters because I dont know much about the powerful wizards from that era. Is there any good lore someone can point to for this specfic period (or earlier). Would help me connect more to the world

My only real complaint I can put forth is I wish they had put the development time that was put into the followers toward integrating co-op or multiplayer instead. This game drips with co-op opportunities as does the Lore of the Wizarding World.

You're charecter and friends could be wiping out all the acromantula in the forbidden forest, this would mean Hagrid was simply reintroducing a native species that had been hunted to extinction. Why wipe out all the Acromantula in the Forbidden Forest you say? It's hard to breed and raise a baby basilisk in a forest surrounded by it's natural enemy.

I don't think Salazar Slytherin or that Slytherin boy are playing anymore of a role than any other of the side characters. If you watch the state of play footage is shows each house has a companion character that you'll go on an adventure with. This boy will be the one for slytherin. I just wonder of you can still access the other companion characters and their stories and learnable spells that are outside of the house you the character are placed on.

I think the person wrapped in the webbing and the mysterious 3rd person might be the same. Not unreasonable to think you rescued them and they joined you for part of your dungeon crawl, especially given they appear to be dressed in a slitherin robe. Maybe another student looking for the same thing Sebastian is after?

I figured the female voice was the player character since it's a girl in this trailer. Not sure why the PC would say 'you've made your choice,' though when we're the ones making the choice. In regards to possible multiple endings, what I think is more likely is something similar to Horizon Zero Dawn where you have help from friends in the final battle if you actually helped them and completed their side quests. There could possibly be point or points in the main story of HL where you get help from your companions if you completed their quests which could then affect how some scenarios play out. Possibly helping Sebastian and learning the Unforgivable Curses would give you the option to use the Curses in certain main story cutscenes.

Thanks, Gustav! I doubt it's the PS exclusive quest. I don't think they would've shown it at Gamescom if so. Seems PS would want to show that at their own event.
