A new metal detecting permission - and you're invited to watch along! What a mysterious place, dripping in history! Ancient drovers tracks, a ford across a river, and pre historic enclosures close to Bronze Age settlements. This permission has so much promise for a detectorist! My first visit uncovered an intriguing story about the French Napoleonic prisoners of war, tasked with building miles of cold granite walls in this exposed English region.
So much to discover here - ❤️ subscribe ❤️ to catch all the future parts of this story.

A bit about me:
Not your average bloke in camo..
Hello! I’m Ellie, English female detectorist, beachcomber, mudlark and artist. 🇬🇧 Follow my searching journey metal detecting the UK countryside and shoreline, as I learn about British history through objects.
Have I found any treasure? Well - I’ve really been putting in the time, and in my first year of detecting I have collected Roman artefacts, old gold, hammered coins and medieval finds. But the REAL treasure is in the stories each object tells about people and places. Sometimes it’s the mystery objects that I love best - cracking the code of time with plenty of help from my team of trusty subscribers!
Miss D.

Be careful on those road bends. I deliver to the pubs and sometimes encounter crazy drivers. I'm thinking about taking up metal detecting to help with keeping occupied!. Happy detecting friend! :)

I don’t yet as my knees feel pretty good, actually I try to mostly squat as opposed to kneel - I do a lot of yoga 🧘‍♀️ but in the future I might invest in pads!

Love that location, my kinda place to metal detect and to capture nice scenic content. Those big French coins were used as pennies and half pennies during Victorian times. I've found quite a few over the years. Great video, subscribed ✅️

Some great history there in amazing surroundings Ellie. Enjoyed this episode very much. Like you, I love to explore the history surrounding finds. I was told / discovered that the French centimes were used as tender in the Victorian times due to a massive copper shortage over here. The 5 and 10 centimes are almost identical in size to (I believe) the half penny and penny (or was it the farthing & half penny? can't remember) and so was accepted as tender back then. I have found a few of these now & that probably makes sense, as there was no Napoleonic POW camp where I found mine. Great to see the subs creeping up! Thanks for sharing, Marcus
