100% agreed on pre-production needing to be clear and confirmed. I've been in situations where the producer would not be confirming things and i'd have to push THEM to go get confirmations. Another red flag is when communication in general is lacking or just not transparent. Usually it's when dealing with smaller production companies that may be a bit more "amateur-ish" or junior producers that haven't learned proper etiquette in communication. Of course these are anecdotal and junior producers or small production companies don't automatically equate to amateur hour but once you work enough, you will start to see patterns in behavior that easily can raise a red flag.
hahaha yep all true can confirm. Specially the warddrobe part, for me it was a: Can we have 2 necklaces instead of only one? it brings good luck. That was during post lol.
@@AsuaChannel no, we applied common sense and finished the commercial as it was spec'd out during preproduction. Everyone got paid everyone was happy, the person giving us the comments was just someone in the marketing agency team giving comments without the client's approval or request or nothing.
I think I can share this story since it happened a few years ago. I directed a shampoo commercial that began with a drone shot of a city. We purchased stock footage because, in Vietnam, the city skyline isn't as advanced, and this was something the client insisted on. So, I chose a nice drone shot of a city in the US. During the offline review, the client didn't say anything, so we thought it was approved. However, a week later, they asked for a change because, in their view, it didn't look modern enough. When we asked for specifics, their feedback was that the presence of trees and greenery made it look like the countryside. I was speechless. True story btw :)
