I think it was a good conversation. Whenever they brought up meat, I’d bring it back to the fact that it’s about animals, not their food. Otherwise, well done
9% of Mexicans identity as vegan - Wikipedia We only have so much time in these interactions and of course when people go off on tangents it’s hard to zoom in on the most relevant point. But of course after self reflection we see all that we could have said or done but it was a positive interaction overall. I think that’s the most important thing, you called out what was needed and didn’t sway which is why I think he’ll look into it more. Well done Tofu 🌱
I thought you did a great job going down the sensory pleasure route with him! I think he knew he couldn't really justify his stance and that's when he started getting more defensive. Thank you for your vegan activism!
Tofudaaaaawg- great conversation, thanks for sharing. i do enjoy watching others do outreach as i am trying to learn how to be more chill when talking about animal’s lives being their own & just as important as ours. when he said they had a family party at a slaughterhouse i was like, ok sawyer family (texas chainsaw massacre)… sheesh! only note i have is your post interview thoughts: subtitles say “stay mindful, eat fruit and multiply.” d’oh! don’t forget to eat a hummus & salsa topped potato! 💚🌱
Oh no 😭 Can't believe I missed that!! Got complacent right at the end it seems... Thanks for the reminder on the hummus and salsa potato- I haven't forgotten, will try to get to it soon!
19:48 "That's really the basis for my argument. It's like… it's not great-I'm not gonna say it's great" I enjoyed how this bit, unfairly taken out of context by me, describes his whole position.
Quoting a Christian monk in the 2nd century on the life and diet of Northern Germanic peoples: "And the Hyperboreans, Hellanicus relates, dwelt beyond the Riphæan mountains, and inculcated justice, not eating flesh, but using nuts. Those who are sixty years old they take without the gates, and do away with. There are also among the Germans those called sacred women, who, by inspecting the whirlpools of rivers and the eddies, and observing the noises of streams, presage and predict future events." Clement of Alexandria Stromata Chapter XIV
I was going to mention that but thought it might be rude but then I got to your reflections part & you did! That you were wearing the same outfit 😂What I took from this convo was that they like eating meat & everyone else is doing it so they don't see why they should stop.
No argument needed...because we still consume animals and animal products...we always will...so vegans are helping prove no argument needed!! Thank you ghetto!!
@jessicaroberts521 👋 Treating humans or animals as if they have no moral value is what Nazi's or Anti-vegans are guilty of. Veganism, just like anti-Naziism, is not a diet ...... it's a mindset. 👍
I kinda find the 'you dont have to eat meat' thing kinda funny, cos you dont have to eat anything other than meat as well, doesnt mean its the best thing for the individual. Personally i have a 80% meat/meat based products 20% everything else, diet. Thats what gives me the most energy, makes me feel the best and ive seen the most muscular progress from. Also i would much rather personally kill my food, than have it killed for me, but the best we can do(those who live in modern places) is buy more responsibly sourced and killed animals; grass fed, free range and humanely slaughtered(which is the case for most animals atleast in EU).
Veganism isnt impossible though. Because "Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude-as far as is possible and practicable-all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals" As far as is practicable and possible means its for everyone
@@dontnoable why would there need to be arguments against veganism to begin with? let alone why would such things need to change - do arguments promoting veganism change?
That point at the 15 minute mark he properly snaked out of that analogy with the pig screams. Both are sensory pleasure. You could get both nutrition and sensory pleasure elsewhere in both cases. If one action is justified it would be consistent for the other to be justified. And if not, neither should be justified. I wanted to scream it at him! think that’s why he wanted to run away, he could sense he was being put in a choke hold! 😂😅 Great outreach! I’ll subscribe now! 😁😁
Yes so frustrating!! He was so avoidant, but I couldn’t think of a way to press him on it without things starting to feel confrontational. I think I know better for next time though!
the real question is whether this kind of outreach makes sense at all. I used to think that this type of content serve just as evidence of someone's activity; like if you were to show evidence to those who hired you. now, I think that there is a slight chance that someone lives in a false belief that in this way they have effects on a wider audience. having said that, no one will decide, on the basis of a couple of rather unconvincing videos, to radically change their identity.
@@v.a.n.e. there are a lot of people who do go vegan after listening to people talk about it. On top of that, sharing outreach conversations can help vegans as a community to refine the way we talk about it. Additionally, talking to people on the street makes a difference to the individual we speak with, and that has the potential to be very impactful on their lives and have ripple effects. I personally find that I’ve gained a lot of confidence in talking about veganism to people through these kinds of conversations, and helps remind me of how the average person thinks about veganism and animal rights, which is importantly if we want to facilitate change.
@@tofudog4u your eloquence and the ease with which you manage to express your thoughts are absolutely undeniable and deserve every accolade. your relaxed attitude and sincere curiosity evoke a pleasant atmosphere in which your interlocutors have the privilege to participate. my objection does not actually refer to your performance, but to the very choice of questions and the transparency of the direction in which the conversation is going. you tend to employ the lingo of vegan radical apologists, known for their fully dehumanized and deveganized manner that even sophists would envy. the questions you asked were, not infrequently, heavily loaded, which the interlocutor, to make matters even stranger, accepted quite serenely. the whole flow of the conversation was uninventive and somehow predictable. I felt like seeing a celebrity performing a poem written by a third-rate poet.
@@Trolloftruth I mean, you do... because one involves an entailed victim. You can't just ignore morality, in a discussion on morality. Also, to be pedantic, he said it was a debate too 😁.
