Dig out your white linen suit and Ray-Ban sunglasses, it's time to relive Sonny Crockett's glory days on Miami Vice. Andrew has found an original Detonics Combat Master .45ACP pistol for today's episode and we are going over some of the design features pioneered by the Detonics brand that are commonplace today in models from SIG, Kimber and others. Only around 17,000 of these were produced!

EXCELLENT video! I carried and used a Combat Master for many years. Loved it!

Beautiful pistol! I also love the Pachmayr grips on that pistol. That combo is so indicative of that time period.

Thank you for the great video I love it very informative , Pat Yates designed the Combat Master as a private venture and later sold rights to the newly formed Detonics , his prototype had only a very stiff firing pin spring for a safety all others being disabled the spring was drop tested to a height of 8 foot without discharging , and his intent was hammer down on a live round USMC Combat style and that has worked well for 110 years , after sale Detonics added a thumb safety and a new longer magazine follower to keep the follower from tipping in the shortened 6 Rd. Mag making the cycling reliable having nothing to do with a loaded Mag indictor , initial production was in carbon steel only and Stainless Steel came later , 2 and 3 spring recoil systems are heavy to slow the lightened slide down as often the rapidly moving slide would pass right over the Mag without picking up a Round - Mine is a 1977 Mk III Carbon Steel version -W- matt Nickel finish and runs flawlessly and weighs the same as a red brick

I have 5k rounds through mine, and as long as the recoil and mag springs are fresh, it runs great.

I have tons of ideas for firearms to present. One off the top of my head is the Savage model 24 over/under combination guns. I and my brothers received one each for Christmas in 1967 or 68. I still have mine, one of the older with the "satin silver" receiver and side selector. That side selector was apparently a weak spot and replacement hammers were available when they failed as mine did.

The Savage 24 is a great candidate. There were many variations and improvements over that product run. We'll try to source one soon.

Great video! Could you do a video on a Remington 341P? That was my first 22 and I would love to learn more about the history and design. Thank you Andrew!

The 341P was a neat pre-war Remington, made for just a few years. The 'P' designated the factory fitted peep sight which unfortunately is routinely no long with the surviving rifles.

I'm more familiar with Jerry Ahern and his books than Crockett having the Combat Master in his ankle holster. Oddly enough, Jerry was a big proponent of Condition 2 carry for the 1911. But, in the video for New Detonics, it was displayed properly Condition 1.
