Carol Frost, poet, farmer, and son of American poet Robert Frost, burned his own poems before taking his life on October 9, 1940. Detritus is an assemblage of fragments. I imagined what some of Carol Frost's poems might have been, how they may have expressed disillusionment. As the book unfolds, pages unfurl like burned leaves, crackling. These imagined poems have been letterpress printed with black ink on dark gray handmade flax paper, appearing almost invisible. The poems alternate with a made-up obituary, which provides a back story for Carol Frost. The objective nature of the obituary contrasts with the expressiveness of the poetry.
