One thing i learned from working on so many detroits is, if the motor is empty of oil and new filters is on and empty, you can fill the truck until the oil gets to the a in usa on the dipstick, if its the same dipstick all the trucks ive serviced, after you fire it and the oil circulates, it puts it right to the full mark. I had to figure something out because I got tired of dropping a full oil filter lol

It comes in a white bottle with green and black lettering I put 2 bottles in each tank when i filled up took my 34. I let it sit all weekend doing its thing. I had black tanks. You shine a flashlight in the tanks and you couldnt see the bottom of tank the black algae was everywhere! That product worked! I went through filters for a while but the tanks got cleaned and are algae free. I swear by that stuff. There is something that is very important to know about the oil filter housing/oil cooler on all series 60 engines. The the threaded part that goes into the oil filters can back out of the oil filter housing. When ever you go to spin on oil filters you should grab on to them and turn them clockwise to make sure they did not come loose. It would be a shame to spin the bearings out of one because one of the oil filters fell off.

Years ago there was.a series 60 in a Peter Bilt with almost a million miles with one oil drain. Pepsi Cola of.Gulf port owned it for several years. Later it was.bought by a guy that hauled Motor cycles. SHELL oil was.checking it. It had Gulf Coast paper towel filters. The mechanics would tear it down ever so often and Shell would measure.the parts. The mechanics would reassemble it and pour the used oil back in. Of course it used Shell Rotella. Conventional I think. The oil was 100% clean 100% of the time. I was talking about it once. Road King asked me for the owners phone number. They did an article on it. When I retired I lost track of it. Worked for a company years ago that had Luber Finers on everything.

How often should you change the transmission fluid? Some say dont change that if you are not having problems or the transmission might slip.

You get more oil out by suctioning the oil out though the dipstick. Its also a good idea to run an engine flush prior to draining the old oil out, especially on diesel engines. Donaldson oil filters are best. Then you should use Amsoil as it provides 6x more wear protection than the DD spec.

I know it’s an old video but I just purchased a pre-emissions 12.7 and I’d appreciate your opinion on injectors. Does anyone other than DD make good replacement injectors? Also, would you worry about the bull gear in it? The engine has about 750K on it and a very good service history but I know that the bull gear hasn’t been replaced. It’s a 2000 model engine so it doesn’t have the compact gear train in it. I used to drive for a small fleet(100) that were all equipped with 12.7s and I never personally witnessed a bull gear failure and they got the crap ran out of them with minimal maintenance . Obviously, since this vehicle is mine if it’s questionable at all I’d rather do it than have it fly apart. Thanks for the videos. a lot of companies say that because when the filters are in the engine it draws oil from the outside holes through the filter and out the center. technically filling the center of the filter means that oil wont be filtered when you put it back into the engine. another way around it is if you plug the center hole and fill it, that way the oil is forced through the filter

On our CUMMINS we use seafoam in the fuel filter instead of diesel.

Sir I do local work and run conventional. I Normally change the oil around 10k miles every 3 or 4 months. Just wondering if I should change the oil by hours instead or keep doing it by 10k miles. The truck stays on all day and averages around 50 to 60 hours a week. If so after how many hours would you recommend doing the oil change? Ty in advance sir

Dont ya just hate those fuel cans without the vent on them? Whenever trying to fill something it just coughs and glugs as it flow and you spill it all over the place and make a mess.

Mike Humphrey oh they are such a pain ! I actually took the Saftey feature off that can that’s why it has JB Weld on the spout ! Haha I can not stand that gurgling and burping ! Obviously the guy that came up with that saftey feature has never had to hold a diesel can up while it burps along trying to put it into your tank or filters.

How do you increase the idle on a 93 12.7?
@KoonTrucking
@KoonTrucking 6 лет назад
You will have to change the values (settings) in the ecm. If you know someone with a computer they will probably do it for you for really cheap. I figure a dealership will charge about $120-150 or so
@vincej4319
@vincej4319 6 лет назад
Nobody will touch a 1993 ecm to re rate it. Those ecms will not communicate with modern lap tops.

You can communicate with a DDEC2 using Diagnostic link, the parameters you can change a very limited. To reprogram it you actually have to use a bench top adapter with DDEC reprograming software. We don't see them very often at the shop, but every now and again.

Have a 2002 FL Columbia with the 60 series. Got a CEL while driving and started losing power. The revs slowly drop til the the engine struggles to stay on and then shuts off. Replaced the fuel lines, filters and pump. Ran fine for around 100 miles then my poor beast started doing the same thing again. Any ideas on what's going on?

No . You punch a hole in the old filter because it is easier for removal. Just prefill the filters with oil or diesel as well as lubricate the filter seal.
