Detroit fire and EMS combine roles to address staffing shortages 

Most local governments don’t get it. Pay them or give them more time off. Since the time off isn’t likely to happen the answer is pay.

Give them their money just like DPD

I did an interview last month to become a firefighter/paramedic but i feel like i bombed the interview now i doubt ill be considered. I would of liked to learn and help out.

The issues are here are extremely low pay for EMS personnel while asking them to go into a very high risk environment, and forcing firefighters onto ambulances when they don't wanna be there. And this isn't just in Detroit, its every major and minor city department. The only place to strictly fight fire or do rescue work anymore is in volunteer departments, because most paid ones now have ambulances but no one to run them. What needs to happen is EMS staff across the name need a massive pay raise and departments need to start giving people the option of running on the medic if they are dual certified, instead of forcing them onto the medic for 19 years of their 20 year career and ending up with disgruntled firefighters as a result.

Poor Detroit.Can you imagine the number of gunshot wounds?Who pays for that?

Why don't they bring in other agencies for ems
