It's amazing, someone was living in this house in 2009. The house and the property was still OK. By 2011, no one was living there, and every window in the house was broken. This place must have been vandalized pretty badly.

Yeah, it was vandalized, but I had seen houses in worse shape not get demolished. An unfortunate end, and nothing but an empty lot at this point. - Thanks for watching!

It's funny how you can tear down a house without ensuring safety of the road users and local residents. The site is not boarded up to prevent debris and dust going onto main road. Even the road is not closed for the duration of works! How could this happen in a country where people like to sue? As for Detroit, it's a real shame. Once upon a time it was one of the greatest cities in the world.
@Detroitvideodaily
@Detroitvideodaily 9 лет назад
mikemihh I thought is was odd also. They could have easily blocked one lane, but that would've meant having another worker present to direct traffic. My guess is the city wants to do these tear downs as cheap as possible. Thanks for watching the video!

My first thought was, wow, this must have been a beautiful house when it was lived in. So many interesting angles in the roof, a front porch, bay windows, partially brick, partially wood sided, and quite a large house! My second thought was, why take out part of the first floor first, and have the second and third floors hanging in mid-air?!

1 down, 40,000 to go. I remember when the neighborhood around that area was full of those types of homes with well maintained yards. The really sad thing is that most of them were constructed of old-growth lumber that just can't be found today. Several years ago, a company offered to the City to tear down such places, IF they could take their time and reclaim all of the old, collectible fixtures and that wonderful wood. AND, they were going to do it for FREE .... of course, the city balked at the idea and threw so many conditions and restrictions at the company, they walked away.

Location,Location,Location The first 3 rules of real estate. Buildings are neglected when the neighborhood goes to shit. In Detroit that building is worthless, In the Shadyside or Squirrel Hill sections of Pittsburgh, It would never been allowed to get as run down. In those sections MOST of the houses are the same age as this and they go for a half million dollars or more.

Blaming a city's problems on Democratic government or leadership isn't the case. There are many other factors and many more important than a "Democratic mayor" that is often used to cast blame. What about all the Republican business owners or Republican board members who sit on corporate boards? What I'm trying to point out is that you can have a Democrat mayor, but Republicans in other powerful or influential positions that affect a city.
