There's something very satisfying about unclogging a drain and seeing the water level drop. Every neighborhood needs someone like you to keep the drains open!
In most cities, the adjacent property owner is responsible for keeping storm sewers open. The adjoining property owners are usually the ones putting grass clippings and leaves in the gutter.
@@MattTheNomad I live in a rural area, and along with some of my neighbors we try to keep the drains clear near our houses. Most often it just takes a few minutes with a rake, hoe or shovel. After all, we're the ones who benefit. I'd rather have my local highway workers taking care of the bigger problems.
If water smells like sewage, please be careful not to get sick. You are a wonderful person to do this, but you can't help others if you don't take care of yourself.
Great public service and at least you helped keep half the road clear. Like others have said, don't put your hands in there. You really don't know what you're touching - it could be sewerage. You also do not want to be accidentally pricked by a discarded needle. Wear thick gloves, or better still, stick to the rake. More please and stay safe.
Keeping it local, I was born in Detroit, your awesome l hope you start a RU-vid channel for lawn care just watching this video tells me you could make big bucks doing that too! Keep up the great work!
First! What a huge clog! When you were walking towards those bubbling grates it looked like the bubbles were coming towards you. Very freaky and cool. I am glad that the citizens are being careful driving passed you. Good job for getting it done.
Looks like a collapsed drain there because of the rows of bubbles coming along away from the drain and into the grass bank on the far side. Maybe that’s why the city had temporarily covered the drain on that side? Great job and a real help for your community buddy 💦👍🏻🏳️🌈😷👍🏻💦
Unlikely. The spacing implies there is an odd configuration of a drain on each side and one in the center of the road. Given the area is clearly a dip in the topography it makes sense to have more even if it's done in an odd way. Either way he's clearly having much more fun watching the whirlpool than actually clearing the flood - he paws at the drain like my brother clumsily paws at cleaning dishes 😅
It would be interesting to see where that water was draining to and see it flowing out. 5:30 becarefull when using uncovered hands especialy if there is sewage mixed with that water. Maybe get some long heavy duty rubber gloves to protect yourself from any contaminents :)
Thank you for sharing your charitable work/ I must admit I am astonished by the huge amount of water which appears in the streets of a major US city without apparent action by the local authorities to resolve what is obviously a persistent problem. Seems to me that the USA is becoming a third world nation and you need to get rid of your current local government representatives .
Infrastructure is one of those unsexy words that people never really understand why they need to pay for year over year. All the money goes to the cops and fire dept before public works sees anything
Water goes in with air air comes out. Dads old house in Louisville 1 or 2 days a week when wind changed direction the whole neighborhood smelt like sh.
The OCD in me loses it when he doesn't perfectly clean it at the very beginning...instead choosing to wait almost until the end. Still, great feel good videos, loves your stuff!.
Get yourself some thick, heavy duty elbow length rubber gloves, streets are nasty and that water is crawling with bacteria-all it takes is one small cut and you can get a horrible infection, some people even get sepsis and die from bacteria getting into small cuts and not getting cleaned right away. Stay safe!
Happy you searched for more than one drain on this one, & if it smells like sewage all the more reason to NOT put your bare hands in the water, like the videos but not at the risk of you catching something 🙄
Does the town/city council not send out work crews when problems like this occur. I’ve seen so many people all over the world being civic minded and clearing drains like these off their own back. Thank you for doing this wherever you live.
dang dude with the bare hands, it could be glass, needles, raw sewage in there. You can see the motor oil swirling. Gotta look out for #1, stay safe. Love your work! Keep it up
Bro are you out of your damn mind, Hepatitis, Typhoid, cholera and dysentery just to name a few of the illnesses that you can and will contract if you don’t start wearing the proper PPE, tighten up buddy
What amazes me it a private citizen will take their time to go and remove the debris to clear this up when paid city/county employees don’t do their job and take care of this. What do they do? Rather than clean it, they put up caution signs not to drive through the area. Probably took this guy what 10 minutes to clear this up? He needs to be REIMBURSED for his time for every one he clears up.
I would not put my phone in that water. All the oils and engine fluid leaks from the street are within those waters. Good job but keep your phone safe too.
Wherever you find a street drain on one side of the street, the odds are very good you will find another street drain *Directly Across the Street* from the found drain. Clear them both.
Would love to see this area again. Can you not do a video clearing out the gutter and curb area of all the weeds and grass? And also clear and edge the sidewalk? It would look good and also should help stop the road flooding in future.
Mark ur drains when it’s not raining so u know we’re they are at when u need to know not on the ground call the city about the one not working ask for some one that take. Care of drains
