Isaiah Williams will make the 53, Lions coaching staff above all else rewards work. Williams has clearly been putting in the work and the rest will sort itself out. Dan said this without saying it, when asked "how does x player make the roster". His answer is almost always "be consistent, just do this" {insert hand gesture here}. But he didn't say that, he basically reiterated arguments his coaches are probably having about keeping Williams.
Here is my take on DPJ. "They don't pay me to play in August". If I get hurt in a scrimmage game, The ballclub is scrambling to find a replacement. I'm not going to risk it. Let the youngsters shine, When the season gets real, then I get real.
With all of Dan's comments about consistency it's kind of hard for me to agree with. It's DPJ by default. To me the default guy is the one who has shown up the most consistently, and to that point, it's I. Williams. Now if they still see the potential upside in DPJ maybe we just carry 5 WR and let BJ have his pick between the two and who is more reliable will show in what plays he calls during the season. Williams does do what Lif does but depth is about the knock on wood worst outcome of injuries. It's nice to have someone who could slot in for Lif and what he does for a time and not have to shuffle to much to dole our those responsibilities
I’m in agreement with you Aaron. I think Williams should be the default choice for WR4 based on his performance but I’d be fine with them carrying DPJ on the roster for the same reason you mentioned. Either way the Lions need more quality depth at that position because it’s scary thin right now
@@PrideofDetroit God forbid (knock on wood) Jamo and ARSB were to have an injury. Our game day roster would be Lif, Williams, DPJ and Ben Johnson is a brilliant coordinator but that’d be a HARD situation to deal with
I like DPJ to, but he doesn't show up. He just doesn't show up. And I don't get it. Cuz it's there, but he doesn't take control. Blows my freaking mind! Drives me crazy!!!!! Thanks boys, enjoy your show!
Hooker's issues under center (especially in this offense) is really Nate's only path to the 53. Wouldnt shock me to see him make it to start the year but be demoted to PS after a month or two more development behind the scenes for 2.
I’d be fine with that scenario too. Just would hate to see a better player get left off the roster for a 3rd QB that I think we can all see isn’t up for being the go to backup
I don't see how any football team can keep only 4 WRs. I see 5 on the roster, with I.Williams as the 5th WR. 11 personnel is standard on teams now a days. How can you play your whole WR room on the field at once??
You could definitely be right but I think it’s important to keep in mind that the Lions will still use LaPorta and Gibbs a lot flexed out at the WR position as well. So it’s possible that we could see them keep an extra TE or RB instead of that 5th WR
Yeah I agree, I'm going to go to the DPJ on default. Wish somebody would step up. Even if it was DPJ. Just step up! Hooker takes backup QB. I don't want Sudafed on the squad. I guess I'm okay with backup squad. But.... Golly g Holly Bob. And there is a possibility IW takes it away from DPJ. Can't blame them if they go that way!
I think the likely situation for roster sake is Sudfeld gets made the PS emergency QB. I have a hard time imagining Hooker plays in a type of way that makes it a matter of debate whether it’s him or Sudfeld at 2. Nate’s experience is the only thing keeping him on the roster to me because as an athlete and an arm. Hendon has got Sudfeld beat. The mental speed of the game and ability to call the plays and make adjustments might be the only thing Sudfeld has on Hooker and based on KC Hooker is no longer that far behind him, from the outside looking in.
Nate’s experience is exactly what Dan Campbell pointed to when referencing him having a leg up on Hooker, but I also have a hard time believing they can over look Hendon’s performance and feel like they have to carry 3 QBs on the final roster
If they don’t grab players from other teams after cuts they gone keep DPJ and Williams, idk why yall making it seem like one has to go, our main 3 n them 2 make only 5 WRs if my math is mathing lol
I see your point but I’m not sold that they’re going to keep 5 WRs just because we think they have to. Keeping 4 seems like a sure thing but I think could opt to carry an extra player at TE or RB instead
