GREAT stuff! Thanks for posting. ByTheWay - I think that guy was saying "WLDM" - "Lincoln broadcasting Detroit Michigan. You'll find their history of the web. Thanks again - - -
I would place that WXYZ radio jingle from the mid- or late 1950s. At that time when radio was feeling the pinch from TV, WXYZ was still profitable because it had built a strong stable of local DJ music shows (this was even before the switch to Top 40 which happened in 1958 or so). Also I know it was calling itself "The Station of the Stars" at the time. It's said that when WXYZ's Top 40 success convinced ABC to make the same change at WABC, WLS and KQV. The rest is history.
novatodave: thanks for that..I've had this clip for a good two years now, and as often as I have listened to it, I thought it was WLZM..No wonder I couldnt find anything on it..
Is there any way you can find more of WXYZ, 1270 from the mid-60's? Specifically, like the Cleveland station in the other montage WXYZ was an ABC O&O station. It'd be great if you had the ABC News intros and outros for WXYZ because when I was 4 years old I remember my folks listened to WXYZ on their stereo's radio and I remember the same intros and outros for that Cleveland ABC station were also used by WXYZ. (*Didn't* like the moog version, though - I got a little frightened then. Yikes!)
