One of the fire departments I run at we cut the mufflers off our 1999 and 2003 fire pumpers and that 60 screams 😚 also we did that to one of our 1988 fire pumper with a 6v92ta and that’s nasty sounding at 2 am now we had a 1974 with a motor swop NTC400 but they took the Jake off but it had a 6 inch straight sounded great up til the ladder broke 3 years ago
Yeah man I gotta hand it off to Detroit Diesel and Cummins for the engine brakes! They do the clanky sounds and pops. CATERPILLAR, they can’t do popping loud rattly jakes like Cummins and Detroits. Actually, any engine can sound amazing it all depends on your PIPES!!!! Straight pipes, mufflers, tall or short pipes, crooked or straight many different pipes and mufflers out there and many there are are different types of metals also which are different tones. I run stainless steel full exhaust system on my old dodge hemi ram it sounds awesome and only got surface rust on it! I have Dynaflex on my Kenworth W900L and I also have a Trux exhausts too laying still in the boxes in my shop for future use I may keep switching between the 2 to make a confirmation on which I’ll keep which I like the best. On my 1979 A model Kenworth I also have Dynaflex pipes. I may just go with them. I want to get the best sound that’s perfect to my ears out of my rigs, other vehicles. You got 0 exhaust attached to your engine they’ll all sound the same. Well you’ll just hear idle noise and turbo.
I’d have to say the KTA19 Cummins is by far the best sounding there is. Those engines have a lope at idle that just makes it sound like pure sex to the ears. Not to mention they are 19 liters. They just don’t make engines like they use to at all.

No offence but I kinda like the old Detroit diesels they sorta sound better In my opinion but that’s OK if you guys like The new Detroit’s don’t matter.
