"By the way, did you see what happened to the soldier we sent into the statue? He turned up dead, thrown off the statue, and gibbed with a crowbar." "No, sir. Friendly fire?"
I just love how despite being shot in the head multiple times he just mans up and starts walking nonchalantly while acknowledging the bullets impacting him by just grunting
The creators really gave you a chance to kill that soldier for his alluring rifle and knew some players will go for it and that had consequences like this line with manderley. .. damn deus ex surely was ahead of it's time . Genius.
That's the only assalut rifle you get in the demo version of Deus Ex, which only has the Liberty Island mission. And all you get are 4 shots and pretty much no vulnerable enemies to test it out on haha
Jesus Christ, I've been playing this game regularly since 2001 and I swear every time I find something new. I've never knew about this little piece of alternative dialogue.
It's all these little things that make this game so great. Too bad people nowadays don't care about stuff like this and only care about how realistic everything looks.
And these 'realistic looking' games age terribly after just a few years. Deus ex and other games of this era possess a unique aesthetic that makes them timeless, thats why you see a lot of smaller devs trying to emulate this style 20 years later.
I think the people still care about these details. But game companies don't, because stuff like this requires actual effort to go into the game rather than just sticking a bunch of pretty art assets in and calling it a day.
It's so true. So amazing how many things they threw in to make your every go exceptionally fun and entertaining. It's the epitome of the game that keeps on giving.
He also comments if you knock the guy unconscious rather than killing him. Either way, you should definitely do this as you can then loot (and keep!) his assault rifle, which is one of if not the first you can find.
Hope Deus Ex HR has moments like this where your off script actions are mentioned. Anyone else get a telling off by this boss for going in to the women's toilets? lol
I remember comming across this because I wanted the soldiers assualt rifle. I thought it would better than the crossbow I chose in the beginning so I killed him for it :)
the detail is crazy, soo many things taken in to account. Ghhaha this game is soo good, but when i play it today the feelin aint the same. Its old i need new.
*I guess we'll never know.* (Anyhow, this is actually a smart way to acquire the average now, overpowered later when modded Assault Rifle quite early, and besides, you could just knock the trooper out instead if you feel nice or pacifistic.)
Is there a different dialogue if you send him to sleep with the tranq bolts from the crossbow or is it either the same as if you killed him or not touched him at all?
Kind of like, if you go to the ladies resteroom, you'll find a girl who will complain and say she'll report you, later if you talk to him he'll mention it.
At some point Manderly talks about there being a thief at UNATCO HQ, does anyone know if he refer to the player when you start opening closed offices, cabinets and so on?
lol. I noticed this on my second or third playthrough. You can also use the riot prod on him and he'll just say "he turned up unconscious" Nothing comes of it, though
I went to the extreme with this soldier. First, I knocked him out. Then I carried his body back to the ducks and threw him in the water where I continued to knife him until his body splattered out. He still turned up unconscious somehow?
I was scared to death when i done this. O_o I wasn't prepared that a game will remember my doings. Omg this was the first and the last time i was so scared
