The world of Deus Ex features a cyberpunk universe that draws heavily upon present day conspiracy theories. These include the Illuminati, Majestic 12, and Knights Templar conspiracy theories, as well as the existence of grays and the supposed secret research that takes place at Area 51. Whilst all Deus Ex titles have distinct settings and story lines, together they explore the methods used by the world's elite to control and manipulate society.
The world of Deus Ex does not significantly differ from the real world until the 20th century. Technologies that currently do not exist appear in the Deus Ex universe, such as human augmentations, artificial intelligence, and transgenics.
The TimeLine is based solely on the dates mentioned by the creators of the universe in various interviews, various documents, and information found in the original source.

The Government and our US military are 20 to 30 or maybe even further in years ahead of regular citizens when it comes to technology. They just show it in the movies and video games projecting what we will see in the future. A lot of what you see here is nothing new it is old but they do not let you know that. If you really knew what was going on in our Government or US military at the TOP LEVELS you would CRAP A BRICK and say OMG! This is all to prep your for the FUTURE so when it does release you will accept and they have to slowly work it into your life year by year! It is programming you for the future! Technology is great but in the WRONG hands it is HORRIBLE! You have to see the big picture not from day to day like most of the MASSES do around the world they are brainwash in to a lot of nonsense and lies! Many would say what I am saying is nonsense and conspiracy theory but no it is not it is ALL TRUE! I don't live in a box instead think outside the box so I am called crazy LOL!

@@thechrisman1345 adam Jensen. Main character from human revolution had a gene that allowed for a new age biometrics integration. Before discovering the gene not everyone was able to survive integrating with mechanical systems. Later on they developed that technology on a nano level so people no longer needed hulking metal body parts. The bio nano solution was toxic death to some people and they "marketed" it as a pandemic called the grey death. That's what the conspiracy was. They sold the treatment to better integrate the nanos as a vaccine called Ambrosia. After that everyone in the world who survive could be nano augmented.
