12:08 This moment is perfect. He's giving Simons such a badass oneliner, while he already rigged the door in case somebody interrupts him, and he doesn't even blink when it goes off. Love it
8:38 When I first played and heard Reyes say that Simons shouldn't keep his bioelectric energy charged all the time, I thought it was actually a gameplay mechanic, and I tried to let mine discharge and not 100% all the time.
The cool thing is, if the player believes that advice, then they are less likely to -- for example -- use a 25-point biocell when they're at 85%, thus wasting 10 points of the cell. It basically scares the player into being conservative with their resources. And I think this was totally intentional on part of the writers.
@All_lives_matter, reject fabricated racism by govt Deus Ex was much more clever than people give it credit for. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was intentional.
this is true! I believe, it is called a game of systems (a game where different systems with rules interact with each other) in game design. The other category is a game where every event is scripted (just unique moments in time which cannot be altered and are not related through an underlying system of rules) .
@@pippop5828 I'm pretty sure immersive sim is a distinct genre which *uses* game systems to immerse the player in the world. But a game of systems is also e.g. Garry's mod, which is a game but not immersive in the "immersive sim" sense although using game systems (mostly the physics engine) for game play.
Walton Simon's in my opinion is the actual main antagonist throughout the game He taunt's you,you actually fight him and you encounter him rather early in the game He had more build up and is an overall more awesome villain than Bob page
Yes. The game was also supposed to have a split when you left unatco whether to leave and join your brother or stay and fight him, but it was cut because budget concerns. That's why I was confused and thought the dialogue went from "optional stay" to "fuck you manderley"
If you completed the game only once, you definitely missed a lot. It takes at least a few playthroughs to do everything, even if you know how to do it. If you're just exploring and trying stuff, you'll keep finding new things even after 10 runs.
@@ironcito1101 I’ve probably done at least 1,000 playthroughs and (I’m not exaggerating, I first played the game when I was 9 and was hooked immediately and am now 21) and still finding new things like areas, items and dialogue I previously missed
@@monstergelo1072 all the bosses in deus ex are quite weak. Actually they haven't been complete. I've read one article where developers said they didn't have enugh time to work on bosses and it was planned initially to make them much more stronger.
Despite of all it being brilliant my favourite was when Simons is talking to Reyes, whilst JC is waiting to pounce and pester him deliberately, like a annoying reporter, lol. JC Denton: "Don't you work down in Washington?" Simons: "Actually, I'm the Director of FEMA." JC Denton: "Sounds like you wouldn't have much use for physical augmentations." Simons: "You underestimate the demands of my work. We deal with every sort of natural and unnatural disaster you can imagine." JC Denton: "But you're the director. You work behind a desk." Simons: "Am I behind a desk right now? No, I'm not.... Simons walking away in disgust, hammering his feet against the ground, then ... JC Denton: "What do you mean by 'overhaul'? Simons: "You will receive a memo in 3 days. I am still collecting data." JC Denton: "UNATCO was very effective this evening. We recaptured the shipment." Simons: "You don't have to worry, Agent. It's the softer elements I am after. JC Denton: "Like Who?" SIMONS HEAD TO EXPLODE IN 3,2,1 Shows why the script writing is so good
I love Walton Simons. He is the best villain in this game. Though he’s Bob Page’s muscle, he’s deadly, but sophisticated. And he seems to hate JC even more than Page does. The duel between the two at the end was epic.
9:42 Reyes: _"I did my best. You're looking good."_ This dialog will actually change if you don't heal up before meeting Reyes and Simons. If you're injured, he'll say, "you look terrible" instead and JC will reply with something about how he "took a few hits." Pretty neat..
He's one of the most charismatic villains in video games. He's cruel, cold, soulless with a voice that fits the character perfectly. He's my favorite character after JC.
Cxero Annuki I'd call it one of the more prescient bits of media in general. Deus Ex completely nailed the post-9/11 tone of the 21st century with like zero foresight. Almost spooky.
well at that time in deus ex there were no twin world trade center towers supposedly destroyed by terrorists and bam exactly a year later in reality terror attacks take down both towers , deus ex is scaringly prophetic
HOLY SHIT! I didn't realize you could go inside the interrogation chamber. The amount of new things I keep finding in this games continues to blow my mind.
IIRC when Reyes asks how you are doing in the breakroom, you'll answer differently of you are low on health Also Walton has a slightly different dialogue in Ocean Lab if you dont speak with him in UNATCO breakroom
The phrase "The real plague, eating at the minds of the american people [...] this new arrogance and sense of entitlement" Really speaks to me about this character for some reason. As if Simons, unlike what I get from Bob Page who was likely just born wealthy and powerful (I may be wrong), Simons started as a regular man who followed orders and followed them tightly and well, never questioning the authority of his superiors. Until a point where he became one of the big players, and it repulses him how Denton and many others can either be so unruly or incompetent at their jobs.
i was just following Walton to the prisoners... and i just looked through the window. cuz i thought i would get in big trouble for going in with him. and when he just shot them both i was TERRIFED and i ran the hell out of there
man, JC believed all this bullshit in the beginning about America and freedom, and its pretty interesting seeing him develop over the course of the game
Nice! Glad you think that. I think that he is a really badass villain. One of the subtle things that makes him cooler is the fact that he just walks slightly faster than every one else in the game.
7:00 to 7:07 If there wasn't organized oppression, there wouldn't be organized resistance. What you call terrorism I- *Gets shot* This part is hilarious to me, while his other buddy dies he keeps talking.
It never ocurred to me to kill Manderley before coming in and get that dialogue from Simons. But I kind of knew Simons wanted to be boss of both Fema and Unatco.
I love how they tried to make him mysterious and just some Goverment dude but at the same time made him look like the biggest villain the 2000's have seen
Who or what the hell is Angel/OA? It's mentioned by Walton Simons, but there's no follow up or backstory to this. I've looked it up and can't find anything on it.
Majestic 12s clearance levels are all named after angels. Angel oa is a clearance level for knowledge that I think jc denton is on. Mentioned in the wall cloud base as an email
I didn't know he somehow survives the first attack and u have to fight him again. I remember killing him in the train rack place and then never saw him again.
He doesn't show up again if you kill him the first time. The video simply killed him, then reloaded a save and fled the first fight so he'd show up again in area 51
4:38 Right. And when the russians come, I am sure your CoD larper skills will be more than a match for a battalion of T90s supported by 200mm artillery and 2-ton glide bombs.
