Agreed! I have no art skill. Yet, I DM for a DnD group and wanted pixel art assets for my battle maps. Could not find any ones that fit my campaign. Started watching this channel and I am learning how to make pixel tiles for my battle maps. Been months now working on them after work a few hours. This Saturday will be the first time I unveil one of the pixel battle maps I made. All because this channel gave my the confidence and ideas to do this.

Full size portraits are awesome!! especially because you get more image to work with to parallax around with mouse movement, bob while talking, pop up at the start, or whatever. Looks great like usual!

Here's my comment for the algorithm. I'm really excited to see more complex animations for the new Felix sprite in the future. Animation is definitely my favourite part of pixel art. You're killing it, dude. Stay confident!

Pixel art is tough - I'm powering through trying to improve and I'm finding myself getting quicker but damn, I'm slooooow! ..and your so right - making something unique is the only way to go 👍

@@Vesdus Nah, not at the moment..I've just been getting the principles down but finally getting some good looking stuff (I guess). I love chunky pixels in old games but hadn't realised how challenging it would be to actually make GOOD pixel art. Literally one pixel makes or break a design right?..but that's the fun part but I'm finding that sometimes I get stuck for the lack of resolution on one part of a 16x16 sprite where It just doesn't work and you wish you could JUST have 1 more pixel, hahah!

I know what you mean. Dwerve was hard to do because 16x16 is so tiny. Thats why Im doing larger characters for this game.@@elone3997

@@PeterMilko I don't blame you..I tried going big but realised I'd gone too far as it started to look look like a low res photo at one point. I think for what I'm doing at the moment (not a game) is I may try 20x20 or something which may give a bit of breathing room, especially for round/eliptical things..Like I said, for the most part 16x16 is working for me but you run up against the wall now and again. Gah - I love it but it can be so frustrating !

I forgot to talk about that in the video. I use both. For 16x16 I would just use a mouse but for larger stuff like this 300 pixel tall portrait I used a wacom tablet to sketch the character. Aseprite has a size and pressure sensitivity you can turn on. However its hard to be accurate with it so then I switch to a mouse to do the details.

At first I spent days designing the character. This part involved sketches, line art and finding references / inspiration.

Yeah they do look like green elves. I may add a little bit of lore that implies something like that but the humans will still call them goblins to be derogatory.

@@PeterMilko I think you should not be too bothered by these comments, as someone who loves to write that loves folklore it doesn't make sense to put strict definition of what came from folklore. Traditional goblins (or elves for that matter...They didn't get created with Tolkiens either) are very different. it's totally fine to have goblins look different from Tolkien's goblins. I think people forgot that people take stories from inspiration that were already based on other inspirations, for me it's the same as D&D players saying "that's a wyvern not a dragon" while centuries before this definition was set in stone they were dragons that would be considered Wyverns by dnd and Wyverns that would be considered dragons. Any way, great pixel art, keep up the great work, you are my favorite pixel artist youtuber !
