Devastating News...Emily's Sick

As a veterinarian, I know the exact look you are talking about. I saw it too, but didn't want to dampen the happy moment plus with the heartworm diagnosis, figured it could maaayyybbee be from that. I could see the pale gums though and she looks so much older than the rescue is claiming her to be, I was hoping I was imaging things, but yeah, she didn't look super healthy from the start, unfortunately. Damn goldens, the loveliest of dog breeds but their cancer propensity is so darned heart breaking. 😢

It's hard to let go. I put my previous dog in last May and I still have regrets in I did not put her down sooner. Just remember the steroids are a mask and it may only extend her time.

Hugs to you as you go through this; it's one of the most gut-wrenching things to go through! Just put our dog down last month, cried for days! Prayers for all of you!

Thank you for caring for all the fur babies big & small. I know the love & heartbreak you see daily. My hubby & I have taken in many special need fur babies as did my family all my life.

If the vet recommended a certain food and Emily will eat it, I wouldn't even think of changing it now. That's why I offered to help pay for it - so she can have what she will eat. I think many of us would help with this.

Agreed. Adding so many different food is going to upset her stomach.

So glad she has a lovely family and Chloe to love her. I hope she gets better she has had a tough time already and should get to enjoy her life now.

Perfectly said. They’ve given her the best few months of her life. She has brought so much joy to their family and now they will have to do the hardest part of letting go. Maybe this is God’s plan in a way. Alex had a hard time finding her but miraculously everything worked out. They’ve been able to give her all the love she’s missed out on in her life when she needs it the most. She led them to Chloe and she’s going to need just as much love. Praying for a miracle.

@@cgragsda I was thinking the same thing !! If Emily was adopted by anyone, I’m SO VERY THANKFUL, it was THIS FAMILY!! She couldn’t be with any people, (including the kids) that would give her anymore love, and the VERY BEST CARE, than THIS family!! I believe God guided Phil and Alex to adopt both Emily and Chloe for a reason!!

One of the heartbreaking issues of having a sick pet, is that they look at you with pleading eyes hoping you will make it alright and all you feel is helplessness and failure.

Yes, the eyes say everything. It's so heartwrenching. My Winston (still with me, thank God) has been sick before and his eyes looking at me like that just kill me. He would also stand almost in a beg position at my feet but he couldn't fully stand up because it was his back that was injured. Oh, it's heartbreaking. I hope and pray beautiful Emily's quality of life improves and she lives many happy months (hopefully years) with the people who love her so much.

I am going through the same thing with feeding my dog, she was given 4 weeks at most due to a tiny tiny tumour on her pancreas, that was 2 weeks ago yesterday. She was refusing food and she is now on wet cat food along with prednisolone every morning. The vet said it is now just more important to have her eating than what she is actually eating. To try to control her super high insulin levels she is being fed every 4 hours day and night and touch wood she is still doing well.

They say the stinker the food better because they drive on the smell.

I totally agree. Don't change the food yet.

My rescue cat has been on prescription tin food for 2 years. We have just finished paying off vet pay loan for our other rescue cat who had 3 legs who passed away from lung cancer last year. I haven’t been able to work for 12 years due to chronic illnesses and am on disability. It is hard to even get this cat food in Australia at the moment but I will not ever take my cat off it, she means the world to me, I have had her for 9 years.

I can't imagine looking into my sick dog's eyes (especially after a 12 pound weight loss in a week) and think for a second that she wasn't worth me purchasing a 3.00 can of food that would help her. smh

Exactly! If it meant me eating one meal a day or selling my car (I can get another car but I can't replace my dog) I would do what I had to so she could have what she needed. Phil and Alex are affluent they could take out a loan (like Shay Batty did for her beloved cat) ,Alex is a Nurse who could honestly make some pretty good money by doing some temp work to cover the cost.She seems more concerned about what color of rug she needs to BUY because she doesn't want to clean the one Emily got sick on.I've been a long time fan but this is HARD to watch.

Great idea. Blue Pearl & VCA vet centers have great specialist. We've used both in Missouri.

@@lisawigger9306 I saw Dusty from Cross Timbers Bison. He has a bison named lumpy. Hence, it's a lump caused by a hernia. They took him to OSU to their vets. They learn and then they treat. They decided against repairing the hernia and will let him live as is.

@@tanya32757 If their story is true they will search for comfort from each other because they probably only had other dogs as comfort. Puppymills are deplorable. And Alex and Phil are sending them some really confusing messages . All the face to face contact (thats challenging the dog), the clapping hands and high pitched voices when interacting with them. Alex will give the dogs a paragraph of information instead of a one word easily understood command.Then theres the part where Alex AND Phil give them commands at the same time.They are inconsistent in their rules with the on the bed not allowed on the bed . And the beginning where they want Emily to put Chloe in her place because she was there first. Praising Emily when she showed aggression (that's a perfect storm right there). My prediction as sad as it is and I've seen it way too many times ,is that Emily will be euthanized.(they won't spring for her prescription food at this point and let her weight drop 12 pounds in a week along with them refusing to keep Emily in a quite environment to heal from her heart worms) and Chloe will either be rehomed or eventually euthanized because she destroyed something in the house or bites one of their children.
