In one interview of 1965, I remember Oppenheimer saying that the killing of these thousands in Japan in nukes wasnt really a good thing, but he thought it was necessary at that time. Even in this interview, after so many years, u will notice he still had confusion & trouble in answering the questions about the bomb. He said yhese are difficult questions.

Oppenheimer was basked in glorious parties for nearly 2 months even after 9th aug...all this he had a change in heart...doesn't make sense. He quoted that line possibly because that was the best interpretation available to him where you stood and saw the massive destructive power you helped creating. If anyone who really foresaw the danger & felt horror was Leo Tzillard...sadly he's been shunted aside P.S. i'm going to watch the movie to see how openheimer has been portrayed...a shrewed genius as west thinks of him or the real openheimer who's a brilliant mind but a giant of an orchestrator and also how they have portrayed finemann, fermi, bohr & others..the guys who actually gave it life

maybe an Indian colleagues introduced him to Bhagavad Gita? I don't think there were any Indian immigrants allowed at that time, Oppenheimer was of German descent, Max muller a German researcher was very interested in Vedic & Indian philosophy and he was one of the proponents of what is called aryan migration theory which proposed that these ideas passed from Europe to India , post that there was huge interest in German intelligentsia on aryan people, Vedic culture and Vedic philosophy and you will find many German scientists having studied Vedic texts, it is said that many of the Nazi top brass had also studied Vedic texts & maybe one of the reasons the swastika was used as a symbol

@@ramachandraks1 because past is not very well documented humans have formed theories regarding various events in history, many which cannot be conclusively proven, There is one theory of a group of people called Indo - Europeans who kept migrating south to central Asia and split into a group called Indo -Iranians or Aryans and group within them moved to Indian subcontinent and heavily intermixed with the local population , lot of the Vedic ideology including varna system was apparently brought by them, there are counter arguments to this theory as well, also boundaries during those ages were very fluid and cannot be compared with modern day geographical classification of what comprises India & outside India, Indian history at times extended all the way up to Kushan empire in Central Asia

Oppenheimer actually read Bhagavad Gita, The following excerpt is from Wikipedia: "After leaving Harvard, he began to acquaint himself with the classical Hindu texts through their English translations.[85] He also had an interest in learning languages and learned Sanskrit,[note 3] under Arthur W. Ryder at Berkeley in 1933.[87][88] He eventually read literary works such as the Bhagavad Gita and Meghaduta in the original Sanskrit, and deeply pondered them. BhagavadGita is not a religious book. Supreme Court said Hinduism is not a religion . Dutt is not a respected practitioner of Gita He speaks about Gita in his modern outlook. These chats were made by Oppenheimer himself and in various news reports by western media since the day of successful conduct of atomic test and in a NBC documentary in 1965 and in a farewell speech of former US President. Oppenheimer reportedly was of the opinion that he did his duty so during his life after 1945, he could pacify his mind by finding solace in the Gita teachings

Does he even know Sanskrit, why are Sanskrit scholars not asked questions on Indian Culture here? This man even doesn't know that Schopenhauer, a German philosopher who popularised Upanishads was read by German Jew Scientists like Einstein. Swami Vivekananda and then philosophers like Emerson made Upanishads famous in US. Oppenheimer, Heisenberg, Schrodinger, Einstein: they all were interested in Upanishads but what does Mr Pattnaik know? Who is Mr Pattnaik to write My Gita? Is he a Rishi or a Vedantin Acharya?

Per historians, Mahabharata war had more casualties than World wars. Krishna’s teaching was to win by killing & destroy, war, fulfill vengeance even by fraud but Jesus’ concept was Life, living w righteousness , treating others as oneself, eternal joy & peace. Jesus raised the dead, healed the sick and preached nonviolence. What a contrast! In Old Testament of Bible the Israelites warred with pagan religions as self defense who attacked them in the first place. But in New Testament Jesus reconciled humanity with God & explained the real meaning of Scriptures, nonviolence, self awareness & purification.
