Within open situations you cannot be any better at hitting the ball than you are at anticipating the incoming ball. Timing shots with a coordinated swing requires the skill to anticipate where the ball will be, and when. Develop simple technique that allows you to control the ball and rally. By rallying you'll improve your anticipation. By improving your anticipation you'll be able to develop better technique.
