This video is about developing your blend between chest and falsetto and how that can be further developed and coordinated with specific exercises in order to gain more vocal options like mixed voice.
Here's the flageolet tension video I mentioned in the video: • The Missing Link to MI...
Here's my falsetto mix video which pairs very nicely with this blending technique: • How To Sing In Mixed V...

man, I love your way of teaching, I have always been struggling to learn both belt and mixed voice at the same time, but your way of teaching is really easy to get in as someone we have been sing for very long, the only issue I have is that I didn't realize the concept of mixed voice and belt that well, so I use the nay exercise while learning belt, and use the belt exercise for mixed, doing something like that makes me always lost track of my progress when it goes to singing high notes, your way of teaching is outstanding in like few hundreds of tutorial I've seen in the past few years.

This is going to be a long comment but i have to give a long thanks for how much you've helped me. I'm a baritone and i've been stuck for over the past year developing my mixed voice, i've watched various videos from so many different channels and struggled a lot to find even a bit of mix, i was thinking it almost impossible and was about to just stick to a lower range of singing. There were so many moments where my confidence was completely destroyed. Then I discovered this video 2 weeks ago, this along with your other videos have helped me immensely in finally finding a mix, of course i'm still in the beginning stages so my voice isn't perfect, but i've made more progress in the past 2 weeks than i have the entire year and i'll always be grateful for you taking the effort in creating these videos. For others reading that are in a similar predicament to mine, don't give up, be patient, with enough practice you'll find your mix too.

@HMCarsSOA
@HMCarsSOA 9 месяцев назад
@@sonkoro-sama4040 Hello! I just found the start of my mix and it has been getting better, but you're definitely more adept than me if you already know how to mix and belt! With consistent practice, your range will increase and smoothen out the transition. Are bad habits like pulled chest still cropping up when you're singing around the higher ranges? Are you lowering your larynx at the upper ranges? Can you comfortably mix using all the vowels? Do you have good diaphragm support? Do you have a strong chest voice for a good foundation? These are all questions i had to ask myself to progress.
@HMCarsSOA
@HMCarsSOA 9 месяцев назад
The main thing is to be fully focused and engaged during practice to rewire your brain when it comes to singing, and don't get discouraged when you hit a bit of a block! You know how to mix and belt, that's a very foundation! One thing i'll mention is that adding strong diaphragm support and bit of power (by using the mix and without straining of course) heavily helped in improving my mix, and through that the transitions have been getting smoother. I've still got a long way to go but i have definitely seen progress, you've definitely progressed and will continue to get better.

@@HMCarsSOAhey can u let me know what exactly u did to finally find ur mix, like step by step if possible, thanks!
@HMCarsSOA
@HMCarsSOA 8 месяцев назад
@@arnaudsebastienblaze8333 Sure, i'll give you the rough steps that i took, but keep in mind, i'm still developing my mix. I first honed in on getting a strong chest voice and repeated 5 notes from G2 - D3 and C3 - G3, all with different vowels, so aaa, ooo and eee, with decent volume. I also developed a falsetto early, for this i watched a video by Doug Zed titled how to improve falsetto. One thing that is immensely important is engaging your diaphragm to sing and the breath support. Singing along is very important for me personally, and although i couldn't hit the ranges of a lot of my favourite musicians, singers like Thom Yorke and Chris Martin were extremely difficult to emulate, so i settled with trying to emulate a baritone who sings in the lower ranges such as Damon Albarn. If you can't sing comfortably in the lower ranges, then you'll struggle immensely with your mix. Then i moved onto trying to develop my mix, for this i was relying on exercises from channels like Power to Sing who kept on repeating lowering the larynx through exercises like yawning, i also did exercises like doing an exaggerated "nay" or the "mum" with a cry tone with the larynx lowered from scales like G3 - D4, i tried the bubble lips but for some reason i couldn't sustain the bubble lips. When i had a breakthrough is from watching studio west's mixing videos, i did all the exercises in this video consistently and they've helped immensely in fighting the start of my mix. Exercises that particularly helped me in this video were the glottal pauses and the creaking which brings out the mix from the falsetto. It is extremely important to still practice singing with your favourite artists. If you feel embarrassed doing this in front of others or want to keep the noise down, sing into a pillow if you have to! To summarize, develop a strong chest voice with good diaphragm support, develop strong falsetto whilst maintaining diaphragm support, do exercises to prevent full chest, then do the mixing exercises in this video. That has been my personal path i've been on. Consistency is key, and don't get discouraged!

I think in other modalities, such as SLS, this support aspect never gets mentioned!I'm currently studying with a CVT teacher and what you're describing here is the mode curbing in their method!I'm currently working on this mode with my teacher, so this is confirming what I'm being taught, which makes me feel I'm on the right track to finding that elusive mix, that I've never been able to do!Best wishes from U.K!

Noticing that flageolet on OO with a glottal onset really is darkening my chest voice, and making it stronger. Not only that, but the flageolet and falsetto have also gotten louder- especially falsetto. My friend couldn't believe that falsetto could get so big. Around G4, it starts to sound like mix.

@@StudioWestLessons That is freaking cool man! I never in a million years thought that we would be on the same page. It is really awesome that you are finally teaching this concept that we used to talk about in Salman's group chat. I have been trying to figure out the best way to approach it, and arrived at the glottal pause thing only this week. Huge improvements already. Not sure if we do flag the same way, but I like to do it with the larynx in a swallow position, tall open jaw with an AH in the throat and an OO at the lips. Then, when I go to sing, I just lower my larynx a little bit and it has this stretchy resistance to it that it didn't have before when I only ever practiced falsetto. It's weird how this indirect approach benefits the falsetto more than trying to hammer at the falsetto by itself. Where did you learn the falsetto mix?

Thanks for the video, it's really great! For me, when starting in the falsetto range it's very hard to distinguish closure and squeeze (presumably false vocal folds, "grandpa voice"). From below everything breaks down around E4/F4 and my folds feel so stiff they won't vibrate and just stay closed, and eventually blow apart into a very airy phonation if I increase breath. Could it be because I'm just tensing up too much with my neck and jaw and tongue in an attempt to force closure and keep my larynx down? I don't know how to stop that.

Hi Greg. First of all, this is an incredible video. I've started working on the exercises, and I'm feeling optimistic. Second, with regards to the first exercise involving chest voice ascending to a light and airy sound, there's a tendency for my soft palate to not fully lift and go slightly nasal. Is this common or should I be trying to focus on keeping the soft palate raised and preventing the nasality?
