I tried playing a youth above his league and he made close to zero progress even in matches with decent rating. When they got sent on loan to a league of "appropriate level" even after a run of poor form they kept developing. Match rating is probably more correlation than cause. It's the lowered morale and inability to handle the pressure of the higher league that causes them to not develop. High match rating = confident and happy player that trains better. Less media pressure= easier to deal with inconsistency at young age.

@@javorgeorgiev6130 This is where strong mentals and adaptability comes in. Basically if a player is mentally strong and adaptable, they can handle the pressure of higher leagues; if not, it's better to have them play at a lower level until it comes to par (Evidence based FM also showed that mental attributes grow faster the older a player gets).

Always did the same, mainly because I thought they can learn from the first team coaches rather than the youth team staff. But idk if there is any difference in doing it or not.

The problem with mentoring in early save games is that its hard to have good mentors in your team because so many players are "Balanced" by default. But if you have great personalities like model professionals as mentors it can make a big difference.

The short answer is: if you’re looking to use mentoring for development, don’t bother trying to force it and only go for it if it’s an added benefit. There are other uses of mentoring that’s a bit more beneficial Mentoring for the most part has very minimal benefits and won’t make your player go from slack to even fairly professional. Generally, every season you’d get one or two points into each personality attribute each season AT BEST (there’s 14 or 15 attributes that can change with mentoring and only around half of them would get a +1 every season with an occasional +2) and you really only have until the age of 23 to change personality traits. That’s MAX seven years of development and assuming you do get the seven years, that’s around 7 points into professionalism at the higher end. There are reasons why you may not even get 7 years even if you start developing at 16, which would make this even less effective, but let’s just go on best case scenario. 7 points into professional is good, but by the time they’re 23 with those extra points, they’re going to start decreasing their development gains anyway and there will be marginal benefits. And then if you look at the method to getting a player mentored, it usually involves putting a youth player into the first team under the guidance of a heavily influential (maybe even team leader) play if there isn’t already a good setup in the youth/reserve teams. Depending on what team you are managing, that could be a problem if first team training is significantly less than youth/reserve team training due to fixture congestion or even general injury prevention. Then it becomes counter productive and you may as well just train more in youth teams than hope to get a few points in professionalism. This is especially true for players under 19 as the working with youngsters attribute your coaches have can give huge boosts to CA gain. So just let your U19 players train and play in youth or reserve teams, and then make sure they get match time (through reserve or loans or first team if you can use them) once they hit 19. If they have bad personalities development-wise, all it means is that they will peak at a later age (late 20s) vs becoming a world class player at 23 as long as you have the proper training facilities and you don’t completely ruin their development.

4.5 isn’t their “real potential” that is appraised potential compared to your current squad.

Just know 4.5 is only relative to your squad, he may only be a 2 star potential for a Premier league team, also what is his number for PA?

@@MatSjo with the in game editor you can check their potential. In mobile Star potencial is between 0.5 to 5 stars. Although I’ve seen dynamic potential… I’ve had a GK going from 2.5 to 3.5…

That's if you are managing big team but for me I set a standard of 17 years for my players to break into first team with 3 🌟 CA. Make sure you don't take your eyes off dev center.
