Developing Super Mario Advance 5 - Super Mario Bros. in 2024 - Improving Bowser's battle + New Poll

That's right, another Super Mario Advance video made late on the 25th (along with the Super Poll animation). I took a look at the comments (when I wasn't online on the account) and some people like the classic damage and others like the new damage, but one comment caught my attention. The comment from @85nxplosion, about the optional classic damage. I'm not going to put it as a reward for the player, because I don't think it's something valid for an "achievement". So I put it as an option on the title screen. When you press "backspace" the name "hard" will appear below the "Super Mario Bros." title screen and then the classic damage will be active. Improvement updates will be made.
And along with that one of the things I didn't have time to show in the previous video, the improvements to the Bowser battle. Have you noticed that in Super Mario All-Stars the flame shoots out fire particles? That didn't go unnoticed by me. It's already present along with other details that I made improvements to.
This video was made live, with live cuts. The only thing I did was combine the SMA5 and Super Poll videos into one. I didn't even have time to write a text for it this time (just for the Super Poll). And with that, we have a new poll for you. Which "duck" sprite do you think would be the best for Super Mario Advance 5? My honest opinion: I think the one from SMB3 fits, because since SMA5 is a game that balances between "new and old", some "new" details would be welcome. But nothing better than a poll to decide this. Leave your answers in the comments! I don't have time to answer them now, but next time I come here I will be attentive and answer them.

Have you ever noticed the Bowser statues in the background of 8-4 are an updated version of Bowser's NES sprites? It'd be neat if you could give Bowser's current look an overhaul by making him resemble those statues. It'd be a new yet nostalgic look for him.

I almost made this statue sprite like Bowser from Super Mario Bros. Wonderland 87, but I didn't get around to adding it to the source. I wanted something smaller. But I still had a little help from the statue to make Blue Bowser big. As for using it in SMA5 as real Bowser, I don't think it will be necessary. The series keeps all sprites intact, it just makes improvements to some using the same ones that were previously in use. But one day I will still use these statues as Bowser's sprite in my projects. I really want to.

@@nimaginendogames2293 Super Mario Advance 1 added new sprites like giant Shyguys and Robot Birdo, so adding new/custom Bowser sprites wouldn't be out of the series' norm if you choose to do so. You said the statue sprite isn't necessary for the real Bowser... I'm hoping that means you might consider using it for the 7 doppelgangers!

I personally really prefer your imagined remake of Super Mario Bros in super Mario all-stars style made better. ❤ For me is always fantastic to see the remake of Nintendo games for GBA and your fan art seems like so official. I really particular the detail of the little participles of fake bowser’s fire balls. Like another fan I think I would be great if you would added the fake bowser’s scream when he falls into lava (maybe different from the real bowser like Super Mario 3D land fake bowsers losers). Continue with your fantastic re-design!😉

You and someone else sent me this suggestion and I really appreciate it. It's present in the fan game! I used the same scream that Nintendo R&D2 used in Super Mario Advance 2 for the Koopalings. It's also used in Pokémon Snap and Super Mario 64 (as Bowser's voice). Thank you very much for the great suggestion!

9:20 smb3 because it has less collision and you can avoid mroe stuff edit : the old/classic for me it fits for the smb2 power squat jump or picking stuff on the ground

Hey cool progress! Having a mode for whether you take 2 or 1 damage from hits is interesting, and all the work you put into the bowser fall is honorable Anyways, my vote for the super poll is SMB3 crouch. While SMB1 crouch would technically be more accurate theres something about the SMB3 one that makes it look better

Unused sprites in the all stars version of Mario 1 did show that they might have went with the smb3 crouch, though taller to fit marios height in game. What if in hard mode, mario had his original duck sprite and overalls? Also, will there be a possibility of a "for super players"/lost levels in SMA5? Heck maybe even Mario Special?

It's a good idea, but I also think it would look a bit weird. I'll think about it later. And yes, there will be Lost Levels. But I'm still thinking of a better way to put it. Maybe the plan I had for this game (before) won't work out very well.

Yes! Another classic that I find very easy to develop games. I've even been using it for a long time since 2013. I've only learned to do better work in recent years. One day I'll show you one of the "messes" I've made. XD

How about on normal mode have the smb3 crouch and in hard mode hand the classic crouch. I say this because in th hard mode you also get classic damage. So why not have the classic crouch with the classic damage and the new crouch with the modern damage?

Sometimes Mario looks very white/washed out, and other times he doesn't. I prefer the more saturated / darker version of the Mario Sprites. Also, going back to your last poll - why not let the players decide if they want Old Damage or New Damage? Could that be an option on start-up or even within the pause menu?

For now I'll keep it in the title because bugs may occur. In the newest video, I made a change to the black colors of the sprites.
