This red back is amazing, it’s about time the Albanese Govt makes a decision and purchases the full tender amount and start getting them into service

It would make sense to get the Redback when you consider that we have already decided to buy the K9 self propelled howitzers from South Korea….

It's a tough choice, either of the two will be amazing. I kind of hope the Redback wins, not least because I think closer ties with KR and JP are important to us with the Pacific theater heating up again. I need to get one of those Redback shirts though...

This looks better than the over grown shoulders of the Lynx. This looks more professional and the proportions are right as well. Hope it can compete in the competition for the next gen Bradley in the US once it scores the win in this competition. That would be a game changer not just for South Korea but also Australia as it will have a piece in the production and subsequent enhancements for future iterations.

Agreed. IMO this is the best choice for OMFV. Especially compared to BAE’s warmed over Bradley proposal.

Very good argument for the Hanwha Redback. Impressed with the removal of torsion bars to create room and the floating floor concept, and also the ability to pick and choose the best-in-class subsystems from around the world. Put the new U.S. XM193 50mm autocannon on it!

I don't know if "coolness" is a prerequisite for the land 400 program. But if it is, Redback wins it. Hands down.

Really hoping Australia pick the Redback closer ties with ROK will allow interoperability when it kicks off in the pacific theatre, plus I think it will be the better vehicle for future growth and export options! And the family of vehicles the chassis is able to be made not just an IFV version it will be cheaper with its modular design, its 🤘🏽

Powerful and beautiful IFV but why do Australia need IFV in first place? Is Australia expecting 1 in a million chance of mainland invasion?
@jars6230
@jars6230 Год назад
Because, if you have an IFV and don't need, it, you have a vehicle you don't need. But if you don't have an IFV, and suddenly you do need it, your screwed. Besides, Australia operates mechanised brigades, which requires mechanisation. Not having IFVs with Australias Army structure is like the air force not having planes.

IED defense is an important requirement of the Australian IFV tender, so I'm guessing the possibility to send this to where the U.S. fights is a big requirement?

I thought it was a no brainer, the redback is built on a tried and proven chasis the lynx is new and must still have bugs to iron out.
@thomaswheeler7767
@thomaswheeler7767 2 года назад
The Lynx is based off the Puma so it is not entirely new and has parts interchangeable with the Boxer and Leopard.
@thomaswheeler7767

Considering they have released very little information about the trials I would be interested to know where you are getting this from or is this just your opinion.
@thomaswheeler7767
@thomaswheeler7767 2 года назад
In terms of the Lynx the transmission is drawn from the Puma, the engine is commonly used in construction and the NBC is the same as the Boxer. The turret is exactly the same as the Boxer and Rheinmetall and NIOA in QLD have partnered through building a Rheinmetall munitions factory in QLD which will produce all Rheinmetall munitions locally. The lynx also has scalable armour from 2 to 6 with add ons as well as active and passive enhancements. Further the vehicle has a top speed of 75km/h compared to the Redback at around 60km/h. In addition the redback is approximately 41tn while the lynx is scalable from 25tn to 51tn depending on the arrangement. Finally, while yes the lynx currently in trials as traditional steel tracks, the lynx also comes with rubber tracks.

If you buy the Redback you need to buy every vehicle new SCE, which will cost millions for years to come. As well, the lynx has the integrated hull that supports cross platforming between it and the boxer, which we already own.

Did anybody win or has the AUKUS sub deal sucked all the resources out of everything else? The Redback looks great and with Poland's megadeal with the Koreans that's the way to go.
@Minigoat_92
@Minigoat_92 9 месяцев назад
Redback was selected however initial order size was reduced from 400 to ~140, with the funds instead going into strengthening and expanding our long range ground strike and air defence units in army. More HIMARS systems, more SAM systems and development.

Australia should just get the K21, its lighter and amphibious, better suited to the jungle and archipelagic environment in the Indo-Pacific. While also providing all the protection and firepower that's needed.
@edwardkim8972

That's a smart and informed observation Mike. However, after 20 years running anti-terrorist shotgun for the US Australia seems obsessed with IED protection... 🤷‍♂️
@mike-hunt3527
@mike-hunt3527 2 года назад
@@edwardkim8972 There is also the K21-105 light tank which would often be a better alternative to the 70ton Abrams in those areas with poor roads and bridges, less likely to get stuck and easier to recover if they do. Also a C17 with a load capacity of 80 tons could carry 2 K21s that way less than 30tons whereas the Redback weighs 42 tons.

@@edwardkim8972 IED’s are pain in the ass. Even the great CV90 lost many soldiers due to IED. I think it’s a must now, we just have to watch the war in Ukraine to see how every army/terrorist/etc will use them to slow, kill and injure infantry.

@@edwardkim8972 Hanwa Defence could be the army's most important contractor. We're already getting their K9 Thunders, they're also developing the Korean Amphibious assault vehicle 2. I am sorry that you guys lost land 400 phase 3. An Australian Army soldier told me today the lynx won. I am upset as I still believe AS21 Redback IFV is the best as did the fella I spoke too agreed saying the hull suspension and room in the back are better. I am disappointed with our government and think they wasted Hanwha's time. What a waste, including AS9 and as10 Huntsman SPG not worth setting up for 30 and 15 vehicles.
