This is the game that got me in to Zelda. The fact that it holds up so well all these years later says it all.

I managed to do a complete minimalist run in this game. Had to glitch a few things to get into level 6 without the master sword. It was then that I learned that you can not do any damage to Ganon at all with the normal sword.
@triforcetimes

ah man, to get all the way to the end to find that out.... argh

Zelda 1 runs have the same thing. You don't actually need any sword until Ganon, and then a sword is required. And with no mirror, you can't even escape.
@xeridea

IIRC, silver arrows are not required, there is a small window he is vulnerable to a spin attack, though I think you may need the master sword.

@@xeridea "IIRC, silver arrows are not required, there is a small window he is vulnerable to a spin attack" While in his stunned state, you can hit him with the sword? That seems strange. Where is the window?

I still remember how terrifying that picture of the thumbnail looked in the game manual. In the desert area of the game, that enemy looked so goofy. I was a bit disappointed. Then, the weirdness of The Dark World happened later on.

I was born in 91. As a little kid I begged my uncle to play it on snes a few years later because it absolutely terrified me but I already loved video games and Link to the Past looked so cool. I would beg him to play then sit behind him hiding under a blanket when he went to the dark world, peaking just over the top cover to watch 😂😂😂

This is so funny.... I finished my first ever playthrough of a Link to the Past YESTERDAY, and today this shows up in my RU-vid recommended. The algorithm must've known that I was a little sad about finishing it, lol. Although tricky, it was a really fun game, and the game design put into it is still brilliant.

I grew up playing a link to the past. Really awesome game. I'm surprised on the similarities part with Mario you didn't mention a chain chomps. I mean they were literally in just one room so I understand that but it's interesting nevertheless. Of course everybody knows about the painting of Mario on the wall and so many houses. Sometimes holding on that painting will get you 20 rupees

@@Nikori Yes, that's the only painting I know of in that game that if you pull on it it will pop out some rupees... I know that game very well, I wouldn't say that it's even a portrait of Mario honestly, but where else do you find rupees in paintings in that game?

Games don't necessarily take longer today. Many AAA games seeking to have the grandest scale and cutting edge graphics take a while, but the ease of creating games in general is much better. Games not seeking to be eye candy and focus more on gameplay can be whipped up very quick.
@triforcetimes

Looking at mainline entry Zelda games, the last two took 5-6 years each (botw and totk)

@@triforcetimes They are open world large scale 3d games. Games on the scale of ALTTP could be written in modern game engines in like a month, plus the time to develop the art and story. My point was that not all games take a long time, and indie games can be done by smaller teams. Not trying to take away from the effort and risks involved, just comparing the limited hardware at the time, to the modern tools, and easy debugging we have now. It is actually quite remarkable what they were able to do in early generation consoles with very limited tools.

Classical Throwback Right Here Indubitably... I really enjoyed the ALL 3 of 1st trilogy games...Evey game after the 1st one is just what "they" wanted to do in the very 1st game... However it would never fit "ALL" the great ideas that they had back in the day during conception. Take all the " Features " from evey game in a list and you'll see 🙈...

@@triforcetimes I mean, it's not a bad game, but you can tell it was designed for kids with no attention span, renting the items ruined it for me because it breaks the feeling you expect from a top down Zelda. That and the 2D wall puzzle sections are completely braindead and add nothing to the gameplay because they are so obvious.

@Trigger200284 I enjoyed the item rental as it allowed players to play dungeons in whatever order you wanted. The game was good, just not as good as link to the past. The dungeons were too short for my liking.

I was horribly disappointed in this game when it was first released , , the dinosaur 8- bit looking graphics with a viewpoint of Old game ( really ticked me off ) because Zelda 2 was HUGE seller it's side scroll point of view , had my expectations high for 16-bit SNES ZELDA , ( I was expecting something similar to Golden Axe or even "King of Dragons" , but NOOOO ),what did they give us Link with PINK HAIR 😢😮 , , ,I rented it and returned it the very next day , , , they gave us 8-bit NES game and claimed it was a SNES game 😮😮😢😢 I'm a strong Zelda fan , and I HATE ""zelda a LTTP"" , was seriously considering a Sega Genesis at this point , , , thankfully ZELDA Ocarina Of Time finally showed up , , ,saved the series in my ELF opinion , , ,😸🏆🏆👍

Did you have a series of mini strokes as a child? The reason I ask is because not only is your opinion strange and misinformed (on so many levels), but your use of the wrong punctuation for trailing thoughts, it's 3 dots not commas, and the off putting way you use emoticons to be inadvertently toxic and obnoxious. Also, you have no idea how to form proper paragraph structure as a confirmed adult given your admittance to being from the nes and snes era. It leads me to believe you may be cognitively damaged, but, mini strokes are often survivable which helps me think this may be plausible...
