The West Bluff Trail is one of the best at Devil's Lake State Park located near Baraboo, Wisconsin. This beautiful landscape has been carved by ice sheets from the last ice age and an awesome blue lake remains.
Part of the Wisconsin State Park system, Devil's Lake is one of the most popular in the state and for good reason. Swimming, hiking, rock climbing, and photography are just a few of the activities one can enjoy.
Devil's Lake include two sandy beaches named the North Beach and South Beach. Swimming, kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving is popular at these locations.
A 2.4 mile hiking loop can be combined from the West Bluff Trail and the Tumbled Rocks Trails.

We will be hiking Devil's Lake this weekend and our plan is to catch a sunrise. Could you describe how far into West Bluff hike the area you described as best place for views, it looked amazing! looks like it is at the 2:21 part of your video. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Good question. I was roaming on side trails a lot, but I believe if you look closely in the video at that point you can see Cleopatra's Needle which you can locate on google maps. It looks to be close to the west bluff trailhead on the south side of the lake. Here is an estimate on the coordinates (43.4175004, -89.7385678). It could be very off, so if you can explore the evening before, so you’re not stumbling around in the dark, it would be for the best. Hope this helps a little even thought it is vague 👍

Hey. Between the west vs east bluff trail which one would you say has better photogenic views? We just have a single day so want to make it the best :)

Without a doubt, the west side. I parked on the south side before you get to the beach area. I took a lot of the side paths that climbers use. That along with the tumbled rocks trail, you should find a lot of compositions to keep you busy. Hope this helps, Omar! Have fun exploring 👍
