@@reggielacey2235 Never during his moves or cutscenes though. He only talks in SDT when there's story dialogue, and I'm guessing they did that so you can hear the dialogue regardless. Lore wise, he basically never speaks in that form.
@@reggielacey2235 Again, that's for the sake of not missing dialogue. In moments where it's meant to resemble how it is in lore, he never talks. And it makes sense that Vergil can, because he's focused on his Demon side for years and has mastered it. Dante hasn't. Which is also why Vergil can use multiple weapons in SDT and Dante can't. Dante has less control when he uses it.
Their play style and moveset perfectly reflect their weapons. Dante is broader and has more raw power like his great sword, vergil is quicker and and has a more precise attack which are strong when perfectly pulled off like his katana
..... wait i thought dante's was technically a long sword ..... actually nvm its on the borderline of the two .... also last i checked katanas were made for broader strikes rather than precise ones considering one the thickickness of the blade and they were primarily used against unarmered opponent..... since no one in their right mind is going to try to sneak a tip that broad into gap in the armor.... great and longswords however surprisingly could depending on the the shape
Ironicly, I feel that perfectly contrasts their personalities. Vergil, always needing more power, has a lot of control and precision. Dante on the other hand, is rather focused on controlling his demonic side, has the raw power.
Vergils moveset for force edge is dantes moveset in dmc 3 and 4 Dante in dmc 5 has more refined animations, and his sword aren't always supposed to go back on his back after each attack so end animation is varied
Ok, I remember distinctly reading a long time ago that "Red" Demons are associated with physical strength and "Blue" Demons are associated with unparalleled speed, and I've noticed this trivia being incorporated in the Sparda Twins movements, along with Dante neing more "initial/instinctive" and Vergil being more "conservative/articulate". Makes me wonder...
Ah, yes, the Red and blue oni trope! A quick shorthand to show that two characters are related, but have very different personalities. Red is hotblooded, blue is cool calm and collected. It's everywhere in Japanese based media.
I feel like this is 7 deadly sins (anime), where the blue demons are known for their speed while the huge red demons are known for their aggressiveness and ngl clumsiness lma
now that i think about it doesnt Dante Vergil as a Twins has similar baseline to Re:Zero's Ram and Rem? also with the Folklore(wich i think it was a real Folklore in Japan) ABout Red and Blue Devils
The frame data is really similar, but the attacks are very different. Vergil's attacks are slightly faster when he throws them, but lack speed and explosiveness. Dante's attacks are a bit slower but when he does throw them they get more speed, are more explosive and snappier. One goes for efficiency while the other prefers to sacrifice it for more ferociousness and impact force. They reflect the characters perfectly.
I like how Dante's stance is upright orthodox (left foot forward, hands about shoulder height, a common boxing stance) while Vergil fights more like a Karateka. (With the Balrog)
@@moomer2675 cuz he had nightmares of being Mundus’ servant back in DMC1 back when he was Nelo Angelo. V’s familiar, Griffin, even confirmed this himself. Also, wdym he ‘begins’ his nightmare. He never said that word.
I don't like how Dante doesn't holster his weapon anymore, it was one of my favorite details of his fighting style, like he was so cool that he didn't even need to keep his sword in hand at all times, always able to draw it so fast that putting it away was a handicap, is how I saw it.
Dante not holstering his sword was a bad choice since holstering has an aestethic reason, due to most of Dante's 1st attack always starts with a movement as if his sword were at his back. Because of that new animation now Dante has a lot of wonky animations (like his sword spawning in his hand).
Dante has the Longer Stinger but shorter Million Stab, technically the fastest frames on Helm Breaker, has faster frames on Friction/Starfall and has a faster Air Trick. Just the differences I found.
Actually I think Vergil can million stab longer than Dante, when I played Vergil I kept mashing attack and the stab went really long. I guess now we know which of them is actually better at numbers (not really).
it didn't entirely click, in my head, as to why Virgil had a claymore moveset on top of his regular Yamato moveset...until now. "Would I have your life, and you mine?" in a nutshell.
I just noticed... Vergil's SDT represents his personality which is control and precision hence why he is able to use it like a normal Devil Trigger. Dante's SDT is brute force, chaotic, and wild.
It’s strictly for impression and feel. SDT was introduced in a super epic way and was suppose to be this big bad epic transformation, which is exactly what it feels like in game when using it. Had SDT replaced DT and acted exactly the same the impact and cool factor that SDT had on everyone wouldn’t have been nearly as cool, because for the time you’re transformed everything you do feels powerful and makes you feel like you’re unstoppable. For comparison Vergil was released a good while after the games release and we’ve all already seen the epicness of Dante’s SDT, because the impact has already been established and still remains in Dante’s gameplay they were able to have Vergil’s act as a normal DT that helps his gameplay stay completely smooth between transitions. If Dante had his SDT as a normal DT many people wouldn’t have been as impacted by its inclusion as there were. Pretty sure everyone remembers their first time fighting Urizen as this demonic being of ultimate power, because it just feels so much different from normal gameplay and that was a great thing because I can honestly say that’s in my top 3 most memorable moments, if not my 1st.
My headcanon is that Vergil actually unlocked his SDT form earlier than Dante, and stopped using his regular Devil Trigger after he did, since SDT is an upgraded, superior version of the Devil Trigger. That's why he can heal in his Sin Devil Trigger and Dante can't: he unlocked it first, so he has a leg up on Dante in experience using it.
I mean, I think the reason Virgil loses most of the time isn't cuz he's weaker. But because he's overconfident in his power. Notice how he almost always puts his sword back in his sheathe after an attack while Dante doesn't.
I think people also forget that Dante has gotten a lot more Skilled over the years! His experience fighting Demons while using Rebellion/Sparda (and now his newest blade) has peaked him practically over Vergil. DMC5 had him at both his Strongest and Weakess state, while Vergil took Shortcuts to getting himself to full strength. Honestly, hedging how their friendly sparring has been, Dante is proving to Vergil that he’s the best, but he’s also willing to lose to Vergil since he’s gotten more mature over the years. Honestly I think he’s just happy to have him back to some extent, even though Vergil’s demon half went on a Genocide bender.
I just now noticed that Dante is your typical JRPG protag, whereas Vergil is more of an anime protag (It was right in my face. Dante wields a broadsword, which is the signature weapon for most JRPG protags; think Cloud, Ike, Pyra... On the other hand, only anime characters wield katanas)
their swords are of the same type the one who taught them to use swords from a young age was their father sparda (you can see dante able to you many kind of weapon,he can also use yamato but not as fast as vergil)
Interesting how Dante and Vergil’s Overdrives have opposite sequences Dante’s Overdrive requires you to charge the first one, followed by the next 2 in rapid succession Vergil’s Overdrive requires you to fire off the first 2 in rapid succession, and then you charge the last one
It's pointless that Vergil picks up and returns the Mirage Edge on his back. When he can literally summon it straight at his hand. Kind of like what Dante does with DSD.
If you look well, in devil may cry 4 the colors of dante were red and white, and vergil black and blue, in this game the colors were exchanged black and white respectively, a minor detail but you can see
