"It's not about loss. Strength is a choice. Fighting like hell to protect what's important. You threw away everything you ever had. No wonder you have no true power!"
I just want to point out that as this song was playing, in the scene, Nero gets some encouragement from the woman he loves, Kyrie (means "divine" in Latin), sees that she's right, then proceeds to walks up a flight of stairs that seems to never end. Not even halfway up, he finds his resolve (transformation) and shoots to the top of the Qliphoth. Even the stairs had a symbolic meaning in this scene. They didn't seem to end and it looked like he'd never reach the top. Then he just flies up there faster than both Dante and Vergil can see. Him shooting to the top has two significances: a literal and a metaphorical. The literal: Dante and Vergil are both fast enough to destroy every rain within a 6-foot (2 meter) radius while fighting each other (DMC 3) and Nero still stopped them. The metaphorical: Vergil is Nero's actual father and Dante is a father figure to Nero. These brothers are titans of power who believed there was only one way to end this rivalry, one must die. Suddenly, Nero comes in between them faster than even they can see (see literal significance above) and resolves the situation in a way they both thought was impossible. In other words, to his dads, Nero "grew up" so fast. Nero is Dante and Vergil's legacy.
Peepee Poopoo He always had character development though. In DMC4 he literally went from a teenage punk to a responsible devil hunter capable of handling his own and keeping Yamato safe. It is just more emotional in DMC5
This is one of the most symbolic and impactful game in the entire Devil May Cry series. Hearing this song, you can feel the loss and pain of the Sparda family. Nero being unable to protect Credo, Dante losing his mother, and Vergil's obsession for power so that he may never again feel the pain of losing what is precious to him, and believing that Eva loves Dante more than him. But through their turmoil, they were able to gain new power that reflects their growth and desire to protect. Devil May Cry 5 is by far the greatest game in the DMC universe.
Couldn't have said it better, myself. This is how a true fan that understands the game on an emotional level can describe this love letter of a game. 😭
Dante didn't just lost his parents, but also his brother for a few times and was basically forced to kill him every time they meet since the family tragedy. They both lost everything, had no one and is most likely to be hated and looked down by rest of the human society. Both couldn't fit in either world, one's only good at slicing demons and is quite isolated from the rest the world; one is so obsessed with power driven by the strong desire to survive at a young age and literally had to live through hell. Dante might got some friends but just remember he'd rather sit in an office alone with no electricity, gas or water than seek for their help/company. Good thing is while he has a depressing backstory, he's also a lighthearted cheesy Wacky Woohoo Pizza Man and the bros are (at least for now) back together again (and got a son/nephew to take care of too?).
@@harry1995ification So true, man. Thanks for pointing that out. It's great that there are fans out there that love and care for the Devil May Cry series and not just see it as a action-pack stylish game. Respect.
Lyrics Don't come to question All that you've known Remember: you are not alone I will be here, standing beside you There is no mountain Too tall to overcome We will be as one You will rise again This is your legacy
@@georgehouliaras7239 Notice how when Nero first unlocks his wings, it looks as though the hands are holding onto his shoulder to support Nero. It is almost symbolic in a way that Sparda himself is there to support his grandson onward, who has come closer to his ideals than Vergil and Dante did.
@@Fire_of756 Y'know that just paints the image of Sparda backhanding Dante and cracking his knuckles to kick Vergil's ass and honestly I'm okay with that symbolism XD
After all the shit Nero got from the fans in DMC4, he was quickly turned into the new favorite with this iteration. He earned the first "Fuck you" in the series.
Franklin Turtleton He says "fuck you" mid gameplay when you beat the shit out of Sanctus while in D.T(mission 11). He also says fuck you whenever you use buster again while in D.T against Alto Angelos. And there is also the iconic middle finger he gives to Dante as Savior absorbs Nero
Kyrie saw very little 'screentime' in DMC5, for sure. But, her contribution was still pretty significant. It's telling that Nero's heart was still conflicted and full of doubts.... right up until he had the chance to unburden himself to Kyrie, and hear her say that she believed in him. Cliched? Perhaps.... But, it's one of those things where the cliche is true. Sometimes, what you really need more than anything else, is to know that the people you love are right there with you, supporting you, and believing in you. Clearly, that's what gave Nero the strength to steel his will and become the new hero of Earth in this case.
I think someone said that it's Kyrie that makes the difference between Nero and Vergil, otherwise they would have turned out the same way. If Vergil had his family still around him and hadn't closed his heart off, he'd probably be more like Nero while Dante would still be goofy Dante. Vergil even wonders if they would have swapped places, had Vergil been the one Eva was able to reach in the attack on the mansion. Honestly, the moral of DMC is: All it takes is a little compassion and you can really transform someone's life.
Kyrie is such an underrated character, the amount of importance she has to Nero is literally character defining. He is the only Sparda to truly openly weep on screen as we see when he cries over failing to save Kyrie in DMC4 and slams the ground. Both Dante and Vergil suppressed their emotions, but Nero acknowledges them and uses them to strengthen him.
@@haileyiscommenting Dante has Trish, Lady, Paty, Even Morrison on His path, Vergil doesn't have anyone on His path, and, Nero has Kyrie That's what It makes the difference
@@TheDevilDucker exactly! And one of the writers even stated that without Kyrie Nero would've been like Vergil. When Dante came through and shot his holiness Nero would not have cared if not for Kyrie being in danger.
@@haileyiscommenting I really love Nero Dante wants to protect humans, even if That means Kill Vergil Vergil wants power, because he couldn't protect Eva, whatever It takes, Even if That means Kill thousands of humans But Nero, Nero wants to save everyone, Dante and Vergil included
I feel like Nero in Devil May Cry 5 is the closest to Sparda, Dante is way too sarcastic and Vergil way too tyrant to compare to their father, while Nero has a better vision of power and honour than both
@@gabrielgutierrez913 Losing a mother, growing up knowing Sparda left him, Vergil and Eva alone for this as a child, living alone, seeing betrayal by Trish and Mundus wanting to recreate his mother but not one that's pure because demonic power, being treated unfairly as a half demon and eventually knowing his brother was truly lost as his demon side roamed free and claimed the fruit which was literally made of the blood from every defenseless civilian and I can be sure there were animals and pets who's blood were sucked dry. This is straight up a nightmare and it's seriously wrong especially since he had no uncle or aunt to take him in, that's where relating ends and saying not seeing or knowing your biological parent and living up alone is worse, it isn't because your only parent killed in front of you even after your birthday as a child is the top of the worst situations to be in especially when it's before being a Pre-Teen.
Nero even DRESSES the most like Sparda. Sparda's outfits were purple. Dante and Vergil dress in red and blue respectively. Nero otoh, wears both red and blue.
Well, yes. One of the major themes of the series is how the Sparda legacy was fractured and split among the Sons of Sparda. The trauma of losing their mother and home as children tainted their entire lives. But the great thing about DMCV is the positive ending that shows Vergil and Dante finally have a chance to heal the rift.
@@salsamancer If I have to choose what's more sad, Eva's theme and the Music box one is also heartbreaking, you can just feel the sadness in it and they did a good job making this series great for things like this.
To be honest, we ALL knew Nero was getting his devil trigger. It was obvious, and we knew he was getting his arm back. But we wouldn't have expected it to be like this, if it was the normal devil bringer then we still would have been hyped. But the fact that it's a normal human arm and with a badass devil trigger form. Capcom, you have exceeded ALL expectations from your dmc fans. Hell, I wouldn't even care if we never got a 6th game. This one Alone is fine to end on, after all Vergil and Dante are basically the gate keepers of hell now. Unless they pull a powerful demon out of nowhere, ain't no one getting past the sons of Sparda
I certainly hope that there's a DMC 6, because I want to know how the fuck Vergil became Nero's father or what would happen in a (spoiler) Dante-less and Vergil-less world.
@@conndor2753 yeah I also wanted to see how the story goes on, maybe they intended to use Dante and Vergil as servant of a some powerful demon, kinda make sense when they both trapped in the underworld...
@@Mexaze_ Maybe Dante would become a new kind of Angelo, but Vergil, due to experience, knows what would happen and devises a plan to avoid and escape. I could go on about what WOULD happen, but that's up to the directors.
I just thought of an interesting plot for the next game. Nero will find a way to get them out of Hell but that will open the way to the next villain. But this will be a smart one. He'll make a plan to divide the familly again and distract them until it's too late to stop him.

DMC5 is my game of the year for 2019. It’s a game that I’ve never been mad at, well except for the crashing issues on PC. Beyond that though I had a blast and there is so much more for the next game to do with the foundations DMC5 has sewn.
I can't watch this scene without crying, Nero is the one to finally unite the family in a way. He is the angel among the Devils. He truly follows in Sparda's footsteps in a way. Also I think the song Legacy can be seen as both Eva and Kyrie singing. Eva is singing to her sons, telling them that she is still there for them and that they are never alone. Kyrie is telling Nero that she has and always will be with him, and to not question himself and his past despite what he's learned, and that she loves him no matter what.
Also Nero's devil trigger looks almost angelic to me. The long white hair, the shiny feathery wings and the much brighter and lighter colors of is design.
Legacies referring to Nero to claim his, and for Dante and Vergil, as they always had their mother with them, and Nero is both of their legacies, reminding them of the ones they inherited as well.
Well, I don't see as there. In my opinion, legacy referring to generations legacy. Sparda/Eva to Dante/Vergil, Dante/Vergil to Nero. Sorry for my poor english.
@@rafaellopes1674 That's what I was trying to refer to. O think. English is one of the most complicated language and frankly sometimes I am, as the Americans call, a dumbass. Also spell check is a bitch
2:35 "I won't let you kill each other." "There are other ways settling your differences." "I'm putting a stop to this sibling rivalry." . . . . . . . . "FU*K YOU !!!" *silver bullet quietly play
this game was an emotional rollercoaster for me, considering i never read the external media and only went by the chronology the game established. so things like V having Shadow and Griffon were super fucking interesting to me Vergil even being ALIVE was a surprise to me as well.
Hell, when the semi spoiler trailer dropped and I saw Vergil, I was screaming in class. Yes, I got in trouble. But I got spoiled a bit when someone set their thumbnails as Nero’s DT
@Marcus Rey Fair enough, I can see why people find it out of place. But I honestly consider it a perfect ending for Nero's story, and the story of the twin sons of Sparta.
while playing as vergil at mission 13 or 14, when walking up to the old destroyed sparda household this theme plays. I just turned the camera to vergil as the rain was falling and it made me just... SLightly emotional
1:43 Nero has ascended, the chorus sings in his name due to his truly noble and divine choice making him a human become god. I think the wings are a metaphor for that. 2:20 on fowards is an absolute masterpiece 2:47 gave me chills. Knowing how powerful Vergil is, pretty much the king of the underworld he says "you came all this way, just for that". You stop for a moment to question your weakness and how there's no stopping such a strong demon with far more experience and is probrably right about treating an inferior weakling like you. But it's as if Nero breathes in, faces his fear and embraces his choice, to face his father. He just has faith in his willingness to stand up for himself and protect what he believes. 3:18 was another shock of chills down my spine. Because right when the chords hit down, it's exactly when Dante lifts his face up to Nero for the first time, as if questioning his own integrity. Someone as powerful and unstoppable as Dante, actually questions his own perception of Nero, someone now proven far higher than mere mortals simply by his willingness to stand up to practical gods, the two most powerful beings on Earth. Risks everything he has to prove to his family who looked down on him what he's made of. He is mature. The metaphor for Nero getting his normal arm back and unlocking his DT seems like it's pointing to the fact that Nero isn't Vergil, his sword isn't the yamato, he also isn't Dante, he isn't Credo. But he's the entity that has lived through all of it, he is his own self, different in his own way, his own unique choices, he's the individual. And this is him enforcing to the world everything he is.
This song keeps giving me Goosebumps. Every time i hear it, I just keep seeing the cut scene in my head. I feel all the emotion, and remember everything that has happened before this very moment. DMC 1-4, a shitty reboot, and then this masterpiece of a game. Devil May Cry is a fantastic thing to call your legacy. I gotta also thank the Resident Evil series as well. If they hadn't chosen to turn the original RE 4 into DMC, we wouldn't have even heard this song come to fruition. I love these games. These game are going to stick with me to the day i die. At least it'll stick in my memories. This song has made this devil cry.
This game is a perfect blend of style, humour, action gameplay, and emotion. The time taken to fine tune every last detail; the gameplay, the design, the lyrics of the music giving characters so much depth and personality. This song really does feel like the resolve of DMC as a franchise, and it’s a goddamn masterpiece
1:36 This exact moment is where the neverending rivalry of Dante and Vergil finally got interrupted successfully, the sheer finality the theme portraits is a perfect match for it.
Nero: ...You're a dick, Dante Dante: That's *UNCLE* Dante to you, kiddo Nero: Grrrr... Vergil: Now you know how I feel, son. Nero: Oh fuck you, Dad, you tore my arm off! Vergil: ...Okay, I deserved that jab.
TheCommentGuy not tryna downplay Vergil’s struggle but Nero definitely didn’t get power without effort. He lost an arm to his dad and he lost his brother. To get where he is now was because of both of those things. They all lost something and became stronger because of it.
@@aikitran420 Nero's loss was indeed the reason (excluding the arm, he just wanted payback for losing the arm), but only partially. Learning that he has a family serves as the final nail on the coffin and he unlocked his true power from it. Vergil on the other hand, had to do so much stuffs to get it. Tl;dr: Nero literally got his power after getting motivated, Vergil only got motivated to go seek power. Big difference there.
@@thecommentguy9380 The difference between human and demon is heart - the ability to truly connect with others, and the will to protect them. Vergil had to try so hard because he closed himself off from others, ignored his real emotional needs. It's also why Urizen couldn't keep up with Dante once the playing field leveled out and why V was able to beat much more powerful opponents than himself and his demon pets.
Spoilers ahead for DMCV (As well as a BIG post.) for anyone who haven't played it. Dante, Nero and Vergill definitely did struggle through a lot. Vergil especially but here's my interpretation on why Dante and Nero managed to get the power he sought for way quicker before he did despite all he'd been through. Not to downplay Vergil but to explain my reasoning for why that may be the case. The way I see it is Dante and Nero both did something Vergil did not. Embrace both sides of who they are. Dante's journey in DMC3 was one of accepting his demonic side as he had already accepted his human side. This to me signifies why Dante surpassed Sparda by the end of DMC1. It's why Agnus got completely destroyed by Dante because he rejected his humanity, in a way if Credo survived he could have been a powerful foe because he never rejected his humanity (And can be a reasoning as to why he looks the most angelic out of anyone in the order. After all, a demon is a fallen angel typically. Sparda awakening to justice could be seen as him rising again as an 'angel') Nero's journey was very much the same in 4. It was his journey of accepting the Devil Buster he was given and embracing that he could be a demon. Which is why he was able to do a Snatch the size of The Savior's face to crush it. He accepted who he was and that came to ahead in 5 after finally discovering who his family was subsequently discovering why he had demonic powers. He fully embraced it all so he could save his family, granting him his true Devil Form. In fact with DMCV explaining that human blood can empower Demons, to have that pumping through you 24/7. It's very likely one day Nero could surpass Dante and Vergil with 3/4 of him being human, so long as he has that drop of demon blood in him. Vergil on the other hand constantly rejected his human half in DMC3. He was powerful sure but he failed to understand what it meant to be a Sparda. It wasn't being all powerful, it was awakening to justice and showing true humanity. Something Dante did over the course of DMC3, DMC3 was his version of Sparda awakening to humanity, hence the sub title "Dante's Awakening". Vergil even went as far as to split his human half away, in a sense even with the Demon Fruit, He de-powered himself. V realizing just what a mistake all he did was. When they rejoin, you notice that Vergil does things that DMC3 Vergil would NEVER do. He thanked Nero for helping him, He gave Dante time to recover so they can fight again, He wondered if things would be the same even if they switched places, he agreed that if he beat Nero, he beat Dante by default. He openly and willingly accepted to cut the Qliphoth. DMC3 Vergil would *_NEVER_* do this. I think seeing the determination of his son to keep his family alive, that act of humanity was the final nail in the coffin for Vergil to realize that the power would have been his all along had he accepted his human half. If we ever get a DMC6 I'd imagine that might have a point where Vergil's Yamato becomes Legendary Devil Sword Vergil. As Legendary Devil Sword Dante was when Dante reached his peak form and the way Vergil gets it is through true acceptance of his human half. Sorry for the long post but I think this might provide some clarity on why it took Vergil so long :)
Song plays after losing so much in your life, and taking that first step forward in order to never let go of the things you currently have, thus becoming "transformed". More experience, a stronger heart, and mind.
Nero still hating that he was powerless to save Credo, makes it interesting with his deadweight and dmc 5 situation considering him being powerless to stop his arm from being cut off caused the death of the people of Red Grave and being called dead weight reminds him of being powerless like with Credo dieing

0:23 this remix of birthplace in Nero’s style is honestly a great bit of foreshadowing to Nero unlocking his true DT (also just a great motif for Nero and Dante)
I want another DMC Anime but staring Nero over Dante. Taking place after DMC5. Dante and V’ can be in it too but they wouldn’t be the focus because of their situation. Nero, Nico, Lady, Trish, Patty, and Morison would make a good cast and Nero is a flawed enough character which makes him perfect for a protagonist role.

Vergil wants to gain more power, so he can't lose anything else that is precious for him. Nero wants to gain more power in order to protect Kyrie which is almost similar to Vergil. (DMC4) Truly a "like father like son" moment in the game. THIS will be the peak of DMC story so far. Nero uniting his family and never succumbing to his guilt to drive himself to bury the light deep within to be delusional about power nor shaming himself for every loss
The orchestral cut reminds me of the choir in Devils Never Cry and Vergil's DMC3/1 themes - which I love, because it ties back to how this is where the circle was broken by Nero!

So I would like to point out this song plays when Dante walks up to his ruined home and stops once he starts absorbing The Rebellion, followed by his burst of power into Sin Devil Trigger and saving Nero.
I like to think this song is Sparda talking to Nero. He feels weak and incapable of protecting what he holds dear to himself, especially after losing his demon arm, but Sparda reassures him, telling him not to question himself, and saying "You are not alone". And the "there's no mountain too tall to overcome" reffers to Nero stopping Dante and Vergil's rivalry. "You will rise again" literally, Nero grows a pair of wings, and metaphorically, Nero rises back to his old power, and even above it. "This is your legacy".
