The enmity between the devil (Iblis) and humans in The Revelation of Allah (Quran) begins with the story of the creation of Adam. Here is a detailed description of how this enmity originated:
The Creation of Adam and Iblis's Refusal to Bow
Creation of Adam: According to the Qur'an, Allah decided to create a new being, Adam, from clay. He fashioned Adam and breathed into him of His spirit, endowing him with life and consciousness.
Qur'an (Surah Sad 38:71-72): "When your Lord said to the angels, 'I am going to create a human being from clay. So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down in prostration to him.'"
Command to the Angels and Iblis: Allah commanded all the angels to bow down to Adam as a sign of respect and recognition of Allah's creation. Iblis, though not an angel but a jinn, was also present and included in this command due to his piety and elevated status among the angels.
Qur'an (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:34): "And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate yourselves before Adam,' they all prostrated except Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became one of the disbelievers."
Iblis's Refusal and Argument: Iblis refused to bow, arguing that his creation from fire made him superior to Adam, who was created from clay. His refusal was rooted in pride and arrogance.
Qur'an (Surah Al-A'raf 7:12): "[Allah] said, 'What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?' [Iblis] said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.'"
Expulsion and Curse: Due to his disobedience, Iblis was expelled from paradise and cursed by Allah. However, Iblis asked for respite until the Day of Judgment to prove that he could lead humans astray.
Qur'an (Surah Al-A'raf 7:13-15): "[Allah] said, 'Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased.' [Iblis] said, 'Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.' [Allah] said, 'Indeed, you are of those reprieved.'"
Iblis's Vow of Enmity
Vow to Mislead: Iblis vowed to mislead Adam and his descendants, promising to attack them from all directions and make disobedience attractive to them.
Qur'an (Surah Al-A'raf 7:16-17): "[Iblis] said, 'Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You].'"
Role as the Tempter: Iblis's enmity towards humans is characterized by his constant efforts to lead them away from the path of righteousness and towards sin. He is seen as the ultimate tempter who whispers evil suggestions and incites humans to disobedience.
The First Act of Enmity: The Fall of Adam and Eve
Temptation in Paradise: The first act of Iblis's enmity was his temptation of Adam and Eve in paradise. He whispered to them to eat from the forbidden tree, which led to their expulsion from paradise.
Qur'an (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:36): "But Satan caused them to slip out of it and removed them from that [condition] in which they had been. And We said, 'Go down, [all of you], as enemies to one another, and you will have upon the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time.'"
Consequence of Disobedience: Adam and Eve's disobedience, influenced by Iblis, resulted in their descent to earth, marking the beginning of human life on earth and the perpetual struggle between good and evil.
In summary, the enmity between Iblis and humans began with his refusal to bow to Adam out of pride and arrogance. This act of disobedience led to his expulsion from paradise and his vow to mislead humans, starting with the temptation of Adam and Eve. This narrative highlights the ongoing struggle between divine guidance and satanic temptation in THE REVELATION OF ALLAH.
