*Puts on glasses* BuT ActUaLlY... For as much of a joke "deadweight" is, it's a huge turning factor in Nero's character development. If his reaction to Kyrie being kidnapped all the way back in DMC4 was a clear indication Nero despises being powerless. Getting told by what was basically his mentor (Dante) that he was useless really stung to him. He's a badass all on his own, but he doesn't acknowledge that because he needs a sense of validation from Dante but most importantly from himself that he isn't powerless. To do that, he tries to defeat Urizen. Then after coming through with his development and getting the power he needed, he finally got the luxury of throwing the "dead weight" quote back in Dante's face in mission 20.
I understand that since Nero isn't some kind of SUBHUMAN, being called deadweight because he doesn't have DEVIL TRIGGER is annoying for him, this factor alone did definitely BURY THE LIGHT within him.
Compared to how ridiculously powerful Dante is and even he was on his last legs, Nero really was dead weight. Dante has decades of experience and nearly all of his demon powers unlocked whereas at that point Nero was missing an arm, had nearly none of his powers unlocked and had never fought anything even close to Vergils’ league. Also the red queen is cool and all but it isn’t a legendary weapon created by an even more legendary demon lord
"ALL THESE VOICES INSIDE OF MY HEAD, BLINDING MY SIGN IN A CURTAIN OF REEEED" "FRUSTRATIOOOOON, IS GETTING BIGGER!" "BANG! BANG! BANG! PULL MY DEVIL TRIGGER!"
